Thanks Shas'. Yeah, I wanted to paint-job to match the futuristic design of the tank, and I went through so, so many pictures in my "inspiration" folders and Google (which added even more pictures to my folders) and found myself drawn to the white/orange schemes.
There will be many markings etc. and weathering over this; see my Wave Serpent for an idea of what this entails.
And so, the orange is tidied up and I re-painted the light areas with more cream and less white, and without bothering with subtle shading. Instead, I opted for each facet of the shape to be a different shade (so the top is lightest, the sides slightly darker, and the bottom darkest). With all the markings and weathering breaking up the surfaces, a subtle blend (as I usually go too subtle anyway) won't show up, so why bother.
This is how it looks now:
I think next I'll reproduce this on all the other pieces and see how that looks before deciding on what else to add and avoid it looking a mess once it's put back together.

Thanks again Shas'.
Slowly progressing through painting the various bits and pieces. Next up to get the design on is the first section of the legs:
The black areas were going to be just a black to grey blend, but I'm now thinking of doing them in metallic, possibly with my polish-able paint as many of these parts are going to be rubbing against one another so that may produce realistic wear patterns...

Anakin's Skywalker's starfighter. The ETA-2 ? That is what the paint scheme reminds me of. Not that I watched any of of those movies, I just have a nice papercraft version of the ship that I may one day build. Very stylish looking on the Tachikoma. Good stuff.

Thanks Dave. Getting the scheme to this stage has been quite an ordeal (relatively speaking; 1st world problems).
Thanks EDC.
Thanks Red'. Yeah, that's the same idea for a scheme. It's fairly common when you look at futuristic concepts.
More legs...
There's a few competing ideas for the knees, so no orange on them yet.

And now it has feet and "eyes"...
I painted the feet with half orange in a different way for each foot; left, right, front, back.
As they are all interchangeable, this means there is no right way to arrange them and can add some variety to a very symmetrical model.
Arms are next to be in progress.

Thanks Shas'.
Thanks Solar, Good to hear that.
Thanks Graven'.
GitS trailer is a bit hit and miss for me:
Looks lovely; nice designs, very pretty.
But, borrowing a bit too much from the anime. I don't mind the occasional nod to something as a homage, but the trailer at least, seems to be made up of all homage and little originality.
And, as I suspected, there's no effort to make the characters sound "original"; Scarlett sounds like she does in all her movies, and Bato just sounds weak compared to the anime's voice actor.
And because of the Major being Scarlett and not the Major, they don't seem to be referring to her, in the film, as anything other than "Major" as if it's her name. It's just a little thorn in my side. She's not going to be the Motoko I love.
Thanks EDC.
Nothing concrete, the initial idea was to do the knees in yellow/black hazard stripes, but I'm still not sure if it will match the scheme or if it'll make it look too "construction" and not military.
The easy option is to add an orange triangle to match the rest.
And lastly, a triangle of a contrasting colour. I'm still debating on what and where and whether to add a complimentary colour.
So, with those options, I'm holding off until I've got the "basic" white/orange scheme done all over and will see what might fit.
Update:
You nearly got this update last night but Dakka's gallery seemed to be having issues so I gave up to do it today.
...Although the photo seems to have uploaded anyway, so that saves time now.
It has arms:

And turret on.
This is the extent of the planned paint scheme. I now need to have a think about what next.
There's various small details that need paint (e.g. the smoke launchers), and some places that I'm considering warning markings (red lines, hazard stripes), beyond that I want to think about the possibility of complimentary colours and then it'll be transfers and then weathering.
Thoughts are welcome...

Looking fantastic bud, as has been said paint job and model really blend well together, great job.
May i suggest, go for hazard stripes, but make them very fine. not 40k 4 foot wide style. Thinking our military aircraft here, you have hatches and hard points marked up, but its for ground crew, not to be seen from 5 miles, as we do with 40k stuff.
Also looking at your colour scheme, I think a light electric blue would go well for accent colour.

Interesting. I'll look into it. May be too "cool" for the scheme, but might be good for the repair scarab...

Well, if you have an old copy of Chapter Approved volume 4 they had the Vehicle Design Rules, or VDR.
Old of course, but still adaptable to today
Each Hull point for vehicle counts as 3 health
Armor had costs based on how high it went, 14 being the more expensive of course!
Super-heavy Walker, Armor: F-14/S-13/R-12, two long barreled assault cannons(arms), Range 36, etc.
Tail Battle cannon
Just for starters, you can add other things like the amphibious, warmachine, does it carry a squad? I wish I could dig mine out

I may do some Kanji (I believe the word is) at the "tank-art" stage... you did all know that there was a tank-art stage, didn't you? It fits between the signs/markings stage and weathering stage.
Scarlett is like John Wayne. No matter the movie or role, he was always John Wayne.

Ha. That was just to hide some distracting things in the photos that drew the eye away from the model. (more-so than the usual wip photos)
Thanks Shas'. Yeah, similar things to what I've been thinking. Just a matter of getting around to it.
Early work on the markings (some tidying required).
The laser-guided defences are done.
Pin washes for the few panel lines.
To do:
Smoke launchers,
The black shapes on the rear (didn't like the hazard stripes around their edges, so they are going solid colour),
Tidying,
Transfers (I've already dug out a selection),
Tank-art (to be decided),
Weathering,
... Automatically Appended Next Post: inmygravenimage wrote:I hadn't really twigged how scorpion-like it was going to be- I feel like it needs 8 glowing green eyes...
It is a bit scorpion, yes.
As for eyes, not green (some are red), but there are plenty:
On the front face of the body there are 5,
Then the white blob on top has a trio,
There's another blob on the bottom of the tank,
Around the hatch are three sets of trios (front, left and right),
And there's 2 triplets of eyes on the turret,
And a final trio on the main gun itself...
A total of 29 "eyes".

And onward with some transfers.
Various small touches all over, but none that really jump out (which is the point).
I found some brilliant ones for the lifting points on the knees, I actually had some transfers that say "lifting area"... with arrows. Extreme close-up below.
It's not all plain sailing though. Some of the photos I took for this showed that I have some more touching up to do, and you will notice that some of the transfers look a bit "weathered"; this is what happens when you use very old transfers, they can get a bit brittle. But they were going to be weathered anyway, so going with the flow.
More tidying and then looking into some tank-art...
