Woo hoo! Got one! First ever KD purchase. Can't wait to go back to painting skin. This is going to be such a treat.

I'd be interested in you providing WIP shots as well as paint recipes.

I've got a lot of skin to be painting up soon, between this, Arena Rex and a shed load of INFINITY...

Oh thats so cute. You said "soon" and "Arena Rex" together

But yeah, would love any help I can get on skin tones, since I'm really poopy at them.

I too am interested in this, as I too am terrible with skin tones. I actually bought a box of WGF's Amazons to practice with so I don't ruin fancy KD:M models with my improvement stages. Well, that and the order was going to cost me about the same as the Amazon box in shipping, so why not get more product for another dollar and then get free shipping? I'll do my best. I just have a quick question concerning resin, I usually use 400 or 600 sandpaper to finish off plastic display models (not wargaming, it would be way too long). Will that be fine enough for Poots' resin?

I think you'd be fine with 400. I think thats what I use.

The resin is pretty 'standard' hardness, so it holds up pretty well.

Also, I was REALLY hoping that we'd get that "Official" update by now!

Maybe something extra to celebrate on the 4th?

Yeah, that would be nice.

I just busted out some models so I can start getting my painting skills back - been slacking for a few years.

Hehe... KD Models... Busted...

I'm going to take the plunge with my day off this weekend and actually paint that Big Game Hunter that has been waiting patiently for paint. Wish me luck. If I can remember to do step by step shots I'll post em' somewhere on Dakka.

I have a brief thread on painting skin around... somewhere here that might help you guys a bit. It is the same basic technique I have used for my super skin Celtic army, and is pretty easy to get decent results. About the only changes I have made since are adding more purples and greens to my shading, and a little more cocoa to make darker tones. The sites here have some nice recipes:

http://blog.brushthralls.com/?page_id=1203

.... hmmm thought I had another, but can't find it.

edit: here's the blog thread http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/270830.page

I'll point to the Architect painting guide hosted on Kingdom Death's own website as a great resource.

Painting - Skin

Now, skin is a part of the model which I often get carried away with, creating extra areas of interest in light and shade, along with warm and cool areas. As a result I will often use a whole range of colours, throwing a bit in here and there, and beavering away like some nutty professor, sometimes repainting entire areas until I am happy with the finish.
In the case of this model I bought a couple of the new GW skin tones, mainly to replace some old ones that have just about gone, but also because credit where it is due, and as a personal preference, I really like the look and feel of GW skin tones (even if I don’t paint them in the style that GW does!) . The concept art has very pale, pinky coloured skin, without heavy shading, so I worked on that basis.

So, I’ll list the colours used and go through how I approached the skin here. I actually did something that I don’t normally do, and painted the face before the rest of the skin with this model. My reason was that I wanted to test the colours before I applied them to the model, and the head was separate, so if it all went wrong I could easily fix it!

Colours:

Vallejo Deck Tan base mix (1 drop paint, 2 drops glaze medium, 1 drop matt medium, approx six drops water)
Vallejo Game Colour Pale Flesh
Vallejo Model Colour Salmon Rose
GW Cadian skintone
GW Tanned Flesh (old colour but I think Vallejo Game Colour do the equivalent)
GW Kislev Flesh
GW Reikland Fleshshade
GW Pale Wych Flesh
...

They have another guide for the Forsaker but I haven't looked through that one yet.

Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I may have the one promo model I got done up by a professional, but most of my stuff will stay as game pieces, grey and unpainted.

No wargames these days, more DM/Painting.

I paint things occasionally. Some things you may even like!

INCOMING!

Jul 7 2014 on Kingdom Death : Monster

Update on the update. This might be the biggest update yet, so it is taking me a while to finish updating the update!

Jul 7 2014 on Kingdom Death : Monster

I am not fully certain. Tomorrow I am splitting my 16 hour workday, 8 hours with the team working. Then 8 hours on alone finishing the update, which includes finishing the words, photos, quick proof reading and then finally the tedious task of inserting it all into kick starters update system.

I hope this update also has some dates in terms of shipping, as I'm...beginning to get antsy here!

Now I'm very curious what the update will contain if it's taking so long to put together.

Hmm, comprehensive gameplay videos? Detailed outline of current manufacturing and shipping status/plans? KD cosplaying models showing off the full line of KD:M figures produced?

I suspect a whole bunch of assembled armour kits (and hopefully spidiculese)

and maybe a first look at the box?

Knowing Poots and his schedule, I'm sure the update will drop at like, 2AM.

Seeing as I'm currently on night shift, I am totally okay with this!

I assume he's got the last of the plastic bits together (barring maybe one or two bigger kits). I've been day dreaming about this update for days now. Let' sjust hope we're not getting pushed back again (it's been acceptable thus far, but I'm starting to get anxious)!

Yeah. I'm never going to paint them. They'll probably end up next to my Space Marines and mantic orcs.

Put together my first model from the pin-up collection last night, now I'm really excited about what this is going to be like once I finally get my hands on the models

Well no update and it seems to have been the breaking point for a few in the comments

no wonder Adam has to be oh so careful in what he says, a comments posting about what he was trying to do regarding an update is translated into an absolute promise that causes some backers to feel betrayed when he misses....

and we all know 16hr working days are so easy to do and just guaranteed to go to plan

(I'm still looking forward to the update myself whenever it drops)

I was a little surprised not to see an update when I woke up this morning. My minor disappointment must mean The Internet is circling wagons and sharpening knives.

Hope it gets dropped today. For all our sakes!

I think people are finally getting to the point where they're really wanting a firm(ish) delivery date now.

That's reasonable at this point (just knowing / getting a projection). Would love to have one for Dreamforge after the last has been missed with no new estimate... Q2 is looking like Q4 now as an absolute best case for that campaign, I think.

Yea, for all the love, support and understanding people have for this project, there does come a point when people want to see a return on their investment. Or at least a target for when they can expect to see it.

Any rage is very curious, since when Adam said he'd be working on the update 'tomorrow,' it was July 7th. So tomorrow would be July 8th, Wednesday, and since it's still Tuesday here in the EST timezone, we're not there yet. Until we get to the end of the 8th without an update I don't think Adam's broken his vow in any way.
