Yeah, the only paperbacks I've gotten at a price like that have 200+ pages on that and/or some serious talent behind them. $6-10 is about what I expect for pulp.

Hmm does seem a bit pricey for the initial jump. Especially for some pulpy sci fi/fantasy section novels. Though maybe some kind soul will put one in the library! (wait people still use those? )
And maybe its me but the "no kill policy" they have means there will be some predictability on some outcomes with in game characters (though non game characters tend to bugger off and die). Not to say that Warhammer novels dont also have a bit of that but it is hard set in for PP

$18 ? That's too bad. Well past my "you can't go wrong" price for a book when I'm expecting it to be just OK.
I've starting reading a lot of BL stuff the last year or two - and even though they're not great - they're cheap enough that I don't mind. $8 for a week or so of exploring the Warhammer world a bit before I go to bed isn't a bad deal. (It's in fact, the only good deal GW has left).

True. Was figuring it would be trade as opposed to mass market, as Amazon tends to distinguish mass market from trade by labelling the former.

$18.00 does seem high, but I'm willing to see what kind of content is in the book before I make any judgements.

Discounted, and MSRP is the important one, as anyone can use discounts, sales, and used markets as a price reference, but the vast majority of the time, that doesn't matter for the sake of argument, as it's fairly subjective.

GW Rules Interpretation Syndrom. GWRIS. Causes people to second guess a rule in a book because that's what they would have had to do in a GW system.

Looking through the googles, White Moon Development is still looking for a publisher. Why they haven't kickstarted this seems weird. THAT is a project that would be KS appropriate...

How about, because PP has a history that's trending more in the direction of Hasbro (fiction explicitly stated to be subordinate to the toys it's there to sell (yes, PP authors have stated this), with a growing cast of one dimensional characters that you can buy(!)) than Dan Abnett (also based on toy soldiers, but has some merit on its own other than being an advertisement)?
PP could prove me wrong, but a pattern's a pattern.

Agreed, but ExNoctum was asking why people were passing judgement before buying a product. For better or for worse, any given gaming company I've encountered tends to have a consistent MO/view/assessment/value/use of fiction, and my assessment of PP's is that it's been getting consistently worse over the last few years.

Fiction in miniatures wargaming rulebooks available in gaming stores next to miniatures is obviously designed to sell miniatures.
Fiction in novels available at books stores next to other novels ... may be a different story.

Of course the fiction is there to sell minis, but, for instance, I feel that the Malifaux fiction does a lot of world building and tends to focus on character interaction, often in ways counter to, or otherwise unrepresented in-game. In comparison, PP writing will almost invariably feature explosions, a warcaster feat (if there is a warcaster) and several now near-rote phrases explicitly describing how the pieces work in-game. (This isn't in absolute terms- Malifaux does have straight fights, and Warmachine occasionally doesn't describe a feat...)
One is reasonably subtle; the other is aggressively obvious. I feel that, especially post-mkII, PP's language has gotten very corporate-selly.

Aside from the aforementioned prequel "novella", the Magnus fluff still does a lot to define a changing character dynamic and the Minions fluff is some of the best they've done(Barnabus may seem one dimensional, but the Gavin Kyle Files on him paints him more as "single-minded long term planner" then bland set piece). The few interactions we have with Wrong-Eye(Maelok's fiction in Domination and the interview in the GK files) make me want more on him in future books. That said, I do find myself re-reading MK. I book fluff more than Mk. II, but that's because there's more examples of non-warcaster segments featuring the grunts as the main characters(such as the Cygnar section of Superiority). I love me the everyday grunts as main characters instead of the "special snowflakes"(hence why I prefer early UC Gundam over the crap like Wing where everyone has super MS that can only be destroyed by a plot point).

Worth noting (and I agree that there are occasionally good pieces of fiction... really liked the Caine/Magnus story up through the end of mkI), but not worth $35 for 10 pages of decent read or $8 (or whatever NQ costs now) for 3 pages...

I got a good 8 pages at least(5 from GK Files, 2 for the Defense of Thrace scenario, 1 from the Rask preview, and the 4-5 from the IK RPG equipment) from #45, so it was worth the price. However, after borrowing a copy of Colossals to read, I didn't purchase my own. Not worth the $35, IMO, even for the new Unbound formations and scenarios.

1. Interesting character choices. Weird.
2. Ari Marmell seems to have a decent track record. That's encouraging.
