Hello folks of Dakkadakka!
I'm Turska from Finland, and I'm a total 40K noob. Even I have several 40K armies, I've never played a proper game.
I'm new to this site, but not so new to the hobby. The first contact to warhammer I got was nearly ten years ago when I received an unifinished WHFB orc regiment from my pal. He had a small piece of paper with a painting guide for the orcs, and I 'helped' him to get his army ready. Now ten years later I've spent nearly all my income to plastic miniatures and I there's a bunch of unfinished armies in my storage. I've also been busy posting Fantasy stuff to other forums, but I think this 40K stuff has bigger audience here.
When the Dark Vengeance box set came out, I was totally sold - the miniatures of the set really dropped my jaw to the basement...
Okay, now to the pictures. I've painted the terminator squad and few chosen, and also I've made a basic test scheme for the Dark Angels marines.

And here's the Termiboys (yep, the pictures are a bit overlit. Maybe I'll redo the photos.)
Let's see if I can finish these before the nuclear winter....
I hope to get all sort of comments and opinions about these models

Hi Turska!
These models are just stunning. I really like they rusty and weathered old feeling you brought to these models. The painting quality is also really nice, welle xecuted, not just splattered on.
Are you planning to start an Chaos or Dark Angel army? Looking forward to see more from you man, keep it up!!

A whole squad done after a long break...
Phew! My goal was to make the unit look okay to tabletop, because these are totally going for gaming purposes. I even skipped painting some parts of the miniatures - because I'm lazy. It took me one evening and morning to assemble these and paint. Darn the normal marines are boring to paint. Oh well.
I'm doinf both armies for the sake of getting some games played

Progressing slowly!
So, the unit of the Chosen are now finished. I'm not that happy with the outcome, but I was not clever enough to make them look more menacing or warpy, but these are good for gaming purposes.
Only the bikers of DA and the muties of chaos + chaos dread left before the goal!
Feel free to share some comments and critics

Ah hello Turska, I've been following your blogs on Warseer and at blogger for ages, I'm a huge fan of you style of painting and have been practicing it myself. Must have read that plaguebearer tutorial a hundred times, if you ever wanted to do more tutorials that would be fantastic.
The chaos space marines are especially cool. I love the leather look you have got on your chaos lord's cloak, do you have any tips on how to replicate that look?
What's next after Dark Vengeance? Have you considered doing any Inq28 stuff?

Shet you werent kidding when you said that you werent new to the hobby, from what i can see ur a bloody veteran of the long crusade (see what i did there).
For ur whf models, sure its not as mainstream on dakka, but hell if it looks good, people will love it. Rule of cool mate.
Now ur models look great, you definitely have great skills in painting, *claps*.
Ur chosen champ guy remind of mr Manhattan, lol'd myself when i saw him.

Look forward for you to strut the rest of ur stuff.

Darn right you were with Manhattan, never realized it was him all the time I'm not big fan of the movie, but it seems I've taken a clear scheme from there.
Thank you for he kind words, these sort of things keeps me totally motivated and gives more energy to finish the project. It's funny thing, I've been painting and collecting nearly that ten years, but this is the first time when I'm about to actually finish and army - not one but two at the same time! About the white backdrop, yep I do agree with that. Usually I try several different backdrops and lately Ive jst used brown/black/oddball boards. But thanks!

Hey! It's nice to hear that the bearer tutorial has been useful even I was totally drunk when I did it an the measurements are not that precise... People have been asking me the recipe for metallics and robes, so let's see if I do those when I again find my cameras tripod!
The cloak was painted with various flesh tones (strippling) before i gave it tamiya clear red wash followed by ogryn flesh... heck I can't remember. But it wasn't hard thing to do! I'll try to make another robe and write down the quide
Thanks again!
EDIT: forgot to write...
About the Inq28 stuff; yes, modellers really are living the golden age of miniature converting and creating cool pieces of art, but I*m not that familiar even with 40K that I should start something new now. But indeed I have a ton of models to convert for any purposes and Inq28 might be the choice!

Excellent looking mini's. I love the colors of the armor, gives the models an extraordinarily realistic look. The grit, the weathering looks great too....awesome work

Few WIPs of some cool toys. Today a mailman gave me a small box of goodies;
I bought these terminators from a random wargamer, and because he had started to add some paint to the minis these were quite cheap unit. Actually there's just white basecoat, few washes and some lovely green plus some metals. Methinks I just continue with the former scheme the owner started working on. These are cool terminators! But I don't know if DA had these sort of armours... (and I don't care. They will be Dark Angels!)
Also, this evening I'll start with these dudes...
For bonus here's a better photo of the terminators I made like 100 years ago. One morning the sun showed her face after a long break and I was able to take some good pics without lamps or whatsoever.

No problem sir, but I'm afraid I don't remember the whole process Sorry!
I started with white basecoat and started to slap randomly some inks and washed to the armour parts, for example different brown and black inks, greens and blues and reds... Darn. I used the whole palette for those dudes and I really can't remember in which order came what.... Argh. Usually when building up the gradient, I start over white basecoat and start to add lighter washes, and making the tones deeper after every wash. I didn't have any spesific guide in my head how I made those guys, because everyone are made a little bit differently. I'll try to make a tutorial with pics next time where you can see how I work.
BUT; here's a older tutorial of a plaguebearer - yep. The method working with mini's is always the same for me. White basecoat, washes, minimal highlights and gore. http://codfishparings.blogspot.fi/2012/09/tutorial-well-kind-of.html I think the pictures describes this thing better than I can...
Once I came up with a perfect description about the method I use. Imagine that you are about to paint with water colours (the colours are thin, they don't have depth and generally they suck). Now you have to choose which paper you'll take - white or black one. Ofcourse you'll take white one because it saves your time - also it's impossible to make water colours to pop out from black paper. You have to 200 coats of paint to get your colors visible for the eye if you use black basecoat. Just saying!
Thanks everybody for your support!

Hot damn, those models are sweet! I really like how you don't paint in bright unrealistic colours, instead opting for the realistic(er) colours for the chosen which I think really fits Chaos in general.
I haven't seen a DV set painted to look like they're at war, and it's amazing to look at yours, really.

I can see a lot of washes on it but most the base colours (and the detail on the shoulderpads) really look good, and if they were done mostly with washes then all the better 'cuz everyone will be able to do it!

Well, I might be using wrong terminology therefore I just dilute my paints and inks quite a lot and I just 'wash' them over the minis I use few Liquitex inks, GW acrylics, Vallejo acrylics and tamiya acrylics. For example, those DA marines are more or less "just washed" in my opininion (the truth is that I started with black basecoat, added a diaconal smoke of white spray, and made few stages of transparent greens, orange and blue coats. I strippled bleached bone highlight somewhere between the stages and went back and fort with the transparent coats to build up the gradient. Try it out dudes!

Here's a quick update again. Only some finishing touches for these before I call the group done. The reason for why there ain't mud splatters is that I wan't to make the splatters for all the cultists at the same time (I'm usually stupid enough to forget how I made some effects and the results don't match...) Enjoy.
I don't know if I went too far with the detailing this time. Truly if there's something I can't stand is too detailed stuff... Less is more sometimes!
