Finished up the main parts of a Loki tonight. Here's a couple comparison shots next to most of a land raider for comparison.

I'll share a couple construction quirks in the next post

Looks awesome, and huge. Shows just how small GW vehicles are compared to what supposedly is inside them.

That's pretty awesome. I'm quite taken by everything being scaled it's a nice departure from 40K.

I take it the things not available on the website will be available to purchase once all pledges are fulfilled?

Overall the APC kit goes together nicely and is a joy to build, but there are a few gotcha's to watch for, particularly if you're building the Odin/Loki variant. Unfortunately I don't see any practical way to magnetize it to swap between the gun and APC versions.

The Odin/Loki instructions don't reference at what point it needs installed into the APC, however it absolutely needs to be build and mounted to the frame of the APC before the two sides are glued on in step 10 of the APC instructions - it will not be possible to install it (unless perhaps done in pieces like a ship in a bottle) after the sides are glued as the top opening is narrower than the odin/loki base. Also in Step 10 pieces F4L and F4R are not to be added as they'll interfere. Note in step 1 of the Odin/Loki instructions the end support pieces are not all the same height - I think its better to do step 2 first then add the end supports as its then clearer how they fit. Finally, in hindsight I wish I hadn't glued the gun to the mount as its a bit cramped for painting the interior.

I haven't done the std APC version yet (this weekend), but like w/ the Odin/Loki I think you'll still need to have the crew seats installed before gluing on both sides even though it isn't shown in step 10. One might be able to angle it in afterwards, but I doubt it.

Also in step 10 when the two sides are glued on to the frame its important to dry fit the front hood (pc K1) in at the same time to ensure the right spacing between the sides at the front. I didn't and though it felt like they seated in properly they were too far apart when I installed the hood so I had to re-set them. When spaced properly the hood section snaps in tight and can be left unglued for removal when ready to paint the cab interior and install the crew. pretty close quarters, but better than nothing for those like me too impatient to paint interiors before assembly.

All told I couldn't be happier.

Great comparison pics, thanks John! I like Land Raiders but that APC is just amazing. Shame I couldn't add any to my order but will probably try and pick a couple up during a sale some time.

Shame about the magnets not being workable there.

Hrmmmmm can those of you who have gotten your kits tell me if your instructions match these....

I do not have a copy of the KS/Retail packaging for these, just T1 sprue and I would love to confirm what ended up in my customers hands.

Any resemblance of this post to written English is purely coincidental.

Mark could you give a time estimate when the APC hits retail for those who missed the kickstarter?

The only problem I had was with the Mortis some directions were the number order changed so if you are not paying attention you could miss steps. and the Scythe part is missing the screw in the directions.
Picks will be posted soon for the first one. Just wish I had the funds during the KS I would have 5 of each 28mm Levs and at least 2 of each weapon

Mark, the instructions in my Command Squad appear to be just like what you posted. I didn't check every single part number, mind you, but I spot checked a bunch, and the pictures all look the same.

I can't compare the Thor, as I didn't get any of those.

The Odin-Loki instructions are notably different. Page 3 isn't there at all, and there are important bits of information missing from page 1...Once I noticed that, I didn't even look at page 2.

The Panzerjaeger are also different. I got a sheet with photos of the parts and number callouts, I suspect an earlier version of the instructions.

While I've got you, I have one quick question: Are the capacitor coolers for the mini-levis going to be available separately later? My "missing" ones from wave 2 came with this box, and I'm glad to have them, but I have plans to buy more mini-crusaders later, and I really want to use the cap coolers on them.

And, adding what I just got to what I received from my supplemental order account the other day, wave 3 for me is:

3 x mini Nova Cannon
3 x mini LH Vulkans
1 x mini RH Vulkan
2 x right mini mauler claws
4 x left mini mauler claws (I really botched up figuring out what I wanted against the minis I was getting, wish I'd realized, I'd have bought more Beowulf/Grendel arms, or maybe an HEL)
2 x mini Beowulf Grendel arms
2 x Command Squad
4 x Valkir Assault troops
4 x Valkir support troops
3 x Valkir Heavy troopers
2 x panzerjaeger
2 x Mini Mortis
2 x Keilerkopf (and oooooh, how I wish I'd ordered a whole bunch more of these)
1 x Odin/Loki

So, a pretty good haul to go with the masses of STs, Crusaders, Mortis, etc that I've already got. 100 Valkir of various types are going to look so freakin' cool when I get them together.

Edited because I miscounted Valkir boxes.

Well, I screamed like a little girl who just saw a dachshund at work today. My FLMC brought my box in... I squeed a bit.

And I almost instantly realized that I forgot to order a piece of kit for my friend.

So since I want to make it right by him, do you have a ball park figure of when these will be released?

Customs got me! Just under £42...now have to wait 'til Tuesday...Grrrr...
Obviously not got the 'Thor' version so can't comment on the post-fit of the new parts but I'm pretty sure that when I built and painted the prototype APC for Mark I fitted the passenger seating area after gluing the sides - I'll check and let you know...

Thanks for the size comparison pics. That is a nice size for the vehicle. Did you paint the tires or do they come in a different material/color?

The Valkir have more parts than space marines or even Mantic's enforcers, but I find them just as quick and easy to assemble. They are about the same size and shape as a space marine, so they are perfect in that role.

Marks 30mm base is much closer to the new 32 size too.

I wonder how the DFG base size compares to that new 32mm base size. Have GW just inadvertently made it easier for us to proxy?

A quick look around the net says that the DFG infantry bases are 30mm...that's mighty close.

Edit to add...if only I'd read one more post down.

I know it was a long haul, and I love the way the product looksl.

Yes, a well-deserved congratulations to Mark and WGF on getting this out the door. Also kudos to Mark for not settling for "good enough" when it came to the kits as we've seen some companies do when they fall behind.

I look forward to the StuG and next faction, though I'll probably still have most of my Eisenkern unassembled whenever that hits...

I seem to recall some flying StuGs...

I wonder if anybody would ever be interested in buying any of them.

Also, need a more fully-realized Shadokesh OpFor.

If I were Mark, I'd prioritize like this:

1. Shadokesh troops & ferals
2. Shadokesh Titans
3. Eisenkern StuGs
4. Shadokesh elites & infiltrators
5. IronCore game rules & starter set

But that's just me.

I'm so happy with mine, that I've moved them up the "backlog queue", and will begin building and painting in earnest after I make my way through Tyranids, a small force of Warriors of Chaos, and my Thousand Sons.

You know what's really nice, though, as I look through all of my lovely Eisenkern goodies? Apart from the Mortis, I don't think I've seen a skull anywhere.

I would honestly put the StuG next. Until the Iron Core game is out, these models will be used in 40K and other games, so a complete force (with the StuG filling the tank role) will help make them a complete package. Those sales will help pay the bills while the Shadokesh is developed.

I know the ruleset is still under development, but is there a sense of how large a typical army will be. I like the look of a lot of the line, especially the Valkir, but I wonder with the size of the vehicles how cramped a standard 4'x6' gaming surface will get as the points scale. The APC is very cool, but it is huge!

Hoping they stay with a Bolt Action original force level (reinforced platoon not the tank heavy game BA have released as an option).
Maybe 30-50 troopers and one or, at max, two armored vehicles/side.

Like you, I think the table will get cramped with two much stuff esp. if the vehicles are as large (and I really like how large they are and plan to get some once they're available retail).

Mark, a question concerning the Assault Valkir.

Is it me, or are legs D2 and D3 both right legs when they should be one of each, and E2 and E3 both left legs? If only it were that we'd do the switch at will, but they mix together... not so well.
