Ok sorry was taking pictures and didn't want to post before they were ready. @Carlos, those roofs are cool, I may have to do something like that sometime. I'm thinking of pretty simple/functional adobe/clay/mud structures, like the settlers/advance team got sent without enough habtainers to make their outpost and had to make due with reinforced natural materials. Probably a flat roof with something else slanted like an awning o... ooh yeah awning maybe? Or something. Alright marine pile o' shame incoming: Gallery link for the impatient: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/images-70053-43577_Space%20Marine%20Pile%20O%27%20Shame.html Pics in post and commentary to follow, uploading and then typing: Automatically Appended Next Post:
Blurry photo of all of the minis, bits on other side of table.
Bikes and jump packs, only 4 jump packs for the whole army though wtf do you do with that?
Terminators, a few picked over guardsmen, two imperial tanks (only got them because of the marine project so they belong here), characters, baseless 10 man tac squad.
2 tactical squads, front squad is technically sternguard/veterans conversion. 1-2 more 10 man tactical squads and 10 stern/vets in bits/pieces containers.
25 terminators, 5 custom DA sprue/chaos bits, 5 aobr, 3x DV sets
Bad photo, this looks like he was gunning to be Belial.
More dreads than you can legitimately field (w/o 7th shenanigans or a motf)
3 complete pods, some extra bits, 8 total rhino hulls, a couple will need scratchbuilt fixes to stand in for a few missing parts/treads, the dwarfs also commandeered one rhino.
3 speeders, 1 storm,
scouts, 5 more from the storm, a few more metal bits possibly not shown
custom motf/techmarine+junky scratchbuilt TFC
Storm talon, valkyrie, the wings are somewhere.
Big container has 10 marines ready to build, there's a baggie of 10 robed plastic marines, most of those baggies have lots of guns and other what-nots, quite a few magnetized arms and guns floating around. There's a bag with 5-10 marines worth of space wolf conversion bits.
Lots of bits and bobs, accessories in the top right, lots of arms in the lower portions, many guns. Can make a devastator squad or two probably.
So I guess it's less of a marines pile o' shame and more of a 'check out my space marines collection' dump, but I thought I would lose too many parts if I just blobbed them in a big pile. I could be persuaded I guess, if you feel I have wronged you somehow

Inorite?
I could do a big DA army, or death wing/dualwing, or well both... Some of the dudes have textbook templar markings which makes them good as imperial fists or BTs or another offshoot... Plenty of vehicles to do heavy that, or enough infantry to go mostly without.
I just hate the scale of them. I want to tall-scale the entire lot, like my techpriest dude. It's not super involved but it's a lot of work to do for an entire army. Automatically Appended Next Post: @Carlos, I'll do the Infinity backlog sometime, but I think it may be easier to do that if I clean and assemble all of them (since I've been painting them on their slottas and then grinding those off) as a couple of bits bins of white metal isn't very revealing.

Alright I went ahead and assembled my Infinity Operation Icestorm terrain pack, I think its called the Mototronica Scenery pack and you can preorder it now. I think miniature market wants maybe $11.19? Seriously considering another set! It was so deliciously easy to do, and me being a complete and total papercraft n00b consider the weight of those words I think most people will assemble it between 10-20 minutes, I may have taken half an hour because I had a tiny visitor on and off and was taking pictures, and I took extra time on the first building 'cause papercraft n00b. Pictures! Gallery link: http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-search.jsp?u=70053 All Everything! It's pretty terrifying to me being a n00b at paper terrain, that marine below feels the same way! Preeeety easy, right? Holy gak this is like playing an MMO for the firs time and being 1/4 the way to cap in the first five minutes! The stages of the bending, my paper container version of the ape-apeman-man picture Empty metal thingie that should weigh more than most models that have any right being perched atop a cargo container, old metal 40k dreadnought may be slightly heavier but this should still be fine Looks really sharp and crisp. It's a good art style and if you let your eyes unfocus a bit you don't really notice the flatness. And the roof even has some more 3D built-in, this is quite nice as most of my other terrain lacks a convenient railing/guard to give roof-goers cover. As promised, the standard infinity boxed set box fits snugly inside each of the 4 buildings (2 of each type) and makes them way way more solid. Next to some battle systems scifi modular terrain for a contrast in material/surface sheen. More of the same. Partially folded building. This particular fold is the trickiest one for me, especially the first time, just carefully look at the instructions for a moment and it should be a snap though! When you push the roof down you're liable to miss the tab, simply flip the building over until you can see the tab, pop it, and slide the other tab back down. Like this! Building ready for infinity box set cardboard box to help strengthen it. Test fit, totally the right size, how neat Most of my boxen got stuck here. It's really easy to sort out though, just pull the side out a bit till you can see the above, and push the box down away from the roof-tab so it can settle into place, may have to do it for both sides. Here's the whole thing! Pretty neat The mat has some ugly creases from being folded forever in the box, some heavy books might help here over time. Totally battle-ready in minutes! And what kind of GrimDork Hobby time would it be without random cross-system model incursions! Crate-thing secure, Command, recommend we nuke the site from orbit, just to be safe... Thanks for stopping by! Really need to get back to my diorama

I've seen the set from my brothers copy of Icestorm. Really nice stuff for carboard terrain. He glued the shipping containers to heavier guage carboard though, to give them a touch more weight. On the standard card they slide around to easily.
Also, I think of all the 40k vehicles, a Drop Pod looks the least out of place on an Infinity board.

:O where do you hide your 40k pile of shame lol?
For your diorama my suggestion would be to leave the TO camo off the oni since he's in the foreground and supposed to be dueling with the samurai. Maybe put the TO camo on the sniper kinda like she's revealing herself as shes firing. To me the mockup looks like a billboard behind her. If you can get her to camouflage with the sin behind her that'd be pretty awesome . Just my suggestion. Looking forward to it!

@Loki Yeah, if I use the cargo thingies much I'll probably add something to them. For taking dynamic photos, they'll probably be ok as is for now. Drop pod is a really slick design, it's chunky enough to match the other 40k stuff, but still believable in other settings. @Cam whoops, and nobody's paying me for this service! If I dumb down/simplify the way I was doing the grey scheme, I could probably have enough done to play with in a reasonable time... but I'd have to want to play 40k. And for that I'd need a nearby opponent who is also in the place of mostly just wanting a fun game sometimes. @Para, yeah I'm champing at the bit to paint my icestorm dudes, just got a lot in the queue vying for attention, especially with the diorama. @Ckig, I've got some custom cases I showed a year or two ago lol, I can take another picture. A lot of them are just sitting out places, one reason I didn't mind piling them up was so I could work on condensing their storage. You may be right about the ninja on the ground, maybe put some TO down by his feet with the trademark blue jagged lines separating those from the rest of him, which would be painted normally. He got caught and wanted the energy for offense. The sniper will be in front of a billboard and I'm hoping to duplicate it on her. Maybe a Logo for ''Space Pepsi'', maybe a couple of contrasting colors with another stripe between them, and then yeah she could have part of her head and gun phased out to take the shot. @AOV yes it is, my secret eBay shame, I'm just glad I stopped when I did or it could be twice as big! A lot of that stuff was got for half price or better, the rhinos need some hatches made, but I think I got them for less than 20 bucks a piece from the warstore deal, one marine squad was only 10 bucks, got a lot of extra torsos cheap to spruce up a bunch of cheap aobr sets. I think the DV terminators and bikes were somewhere between 11-15 dollars per set. If I had been spending on stuff like that instead of deadzone, mars attacks, and so on... I'd have twice that pile easily! Frightening! I could technically include my corp marines in with the GW stuff, since they originally got bought to be guardsmen Hey btw, if any of you seasoned 40kers has any insight as to what I could do with those marines in terms of a playable army, feel free to spill it

Yeah the icestorm stuff is probably 10-20 minutes to set up pending the person's experience with papercraft. Turbo easy and quite fast.
I think the last time I did points I came up with 3 1500 point armies and maybe some extra stuff, but I could have miscalculated and or not used enough overprice heroes I'm not sure what I'm gonna do with them, either gonna finish an army or try to hawk them to fuel the other systems. I wish I were in a place I could hand stuff out

Man. I have a feeling I could readily crank out a large number of those marines in pretty short order if I just give in and paint them.
But every time I compare them to enforcers I just get sad about them lol. Too short, tall-scaling would make them look awesome, but then they'll probably never get done.
What think you guys? Try to tall scale a 5-10 man rhino squad and see how it works or find a good replacement for the original grey color I'm bound to run out of, and just get them all done in a hurry?
Say, what do you guys think would happen if I used the same woodstain dipping method I always do on a model that's had some kind of weathering compound. I'm vaguely considering using some charcoal and or other pencil work (maybe oil pencils or something, colored pencils probably won't draw properly) would do if it got dipped. I guess I could always apply them after the dip an then top coat them too, though they'd be safer under the stain (if it didn't melt them). Automatically Appended Next Post: So either I got better at airbrushing or the old brush is a lot better than I had been giving it credit for... It was a lot easier to use and do smaller spots with than I remember, by far.
Suffice it to say I've got 10 marines base-coated in a suitably similar grey to the old color (updated to a minitaire color) and one other thing for kicks.
Might paint them later on tonight if I get time.

I had a lot of jump packs and other assault marine-ish bits I got in a large ebay bits hoard, a really nice deal overall, but I traded them off for my decommissioned chaos land raider. I think I like the dark angles most of the non-nilla marine chapters, though space wolves call to me on occasion. Blood angels don't really do it for me for whatever reason. I'm torn, I just added paint to those models but now I wanna make them taller. The old metal dark angels bodies would be hard to do, but I guess if I space out the torso a bit and some greestuff as an extended robe... Could end up giving them mantic plague-like supertorsos if i'm not careful though!

Yeah and while I think packing it down and traveling with it will eventually wear it out, it would still be super easy to do and you could fit a full sized table and 1-2 full Infinity forces into a really compact carrying case for demos and playing games on short notice.
When I feel like spending some hobby money again I may get another set for just such a purpose. Even if it wears out it's pretty cheap to replace. A nearly full sized board (two packs) for what it costs to get a single building from most places. OFC... it's only two levels and would get bland eventually... but still. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Blurry desk photo is blurry... but they're just base coated anyway.
I figure I'll do these then break them off of their current bases and put them onto clear acrylics. If I can stand old metal dark angel marines on half-thick bases in terms of height, then I can handle anything else in my collection.

Interested to see where you go with the Marines. Are you going for the same dark grey scheme you used before, or something else?
On the subject of Marine scaling, I think part of the issue is that Guardsmen, at least GW ones, are much too big and chunky, hence why I only own 1 GW infantry model in my 3k+ army Using stuff like the old Warzone plastics, or even GW Eldar or Sisters, they actually scale about right, I think. I'm firmly in the ' SM are the right size, the rest are too big' camp, all things considered.
And if you like the Icestorm terrain, check out this stuff (you may have seen it before, it gets posted a lot down in the Infinity forums) :http://www.toposolitario.com/workshop/ikube.html
Works on the same 'no glue, just fold' principle, is free to download, easily stackable (both for gaming and storage) and actually has a whole load of designs, 5 each for 6 colours.

For now I intend to continue the Shadow Knights scheme I devised back when, yeah.
The mantic human soldiers are too tall as well. I get that marines are gw's model for 28mm scaling, but then things that aren't marines shouldn't have ever gotten past 25mm. They may be right for their setting but they size a little down for the rest of my collection. However, in the mixed multiverse, they don't have to be 8ft tall super humans, or even humans. So I'm gonna paint and clear acrylic base my shortest d00ds and see how I like them!
The ikube stuff is neat though I don't so much like papercraft for it's own sake as I was impressed by the quality of the icestorm stuff. However, if I go forward with getting another batch of Mototronica scenery, I may invest some time into the ikube thingies too so thanks for sharing

did you had a big collection of Dark Angels in the past?I'm currently using some but can place had I kind of like them although they break the scene of it black Tim McGraw Wow. Black Templar there we go.
Wow, I think that's the most unintentionally hilarious post I've ever seen on here, you just won the award for most Nonsensical post of the year!
@Ruglud: Don't give in! Once you turn to the Infinity side, there's no going back! You'll forever looking down on other minis as 'heroic scale rubbish' and you'll find your wallet empties itself far faster than you thought was possible! You might as well set up a direct debit to your Infinity retailer of choice!
In all seriousness, though, do take a look. If you're a gamer you'll fall for the rules, if you're a painter then you're just in for a treat!

Yeah the edges are so crisp and some of the fine line detail in the paintwork is actually sculpted there and easier to paint than you might think.
Game looks neat too.
Wow para, what's wrong with black Tim McGraw? Apparently my speech to text loves the country...
