Mantic hammers should be single-hand weapons. Dreadknight hammers need two hands.

Haha there you go, too bad they probably cost a fortune Automatically Appended Next Post: I was talking about the 2h dwarf hammers, they look quite a bit like the ones Titus could swing around in the 40k: SM game. Probably a little on the smaller side though. Proper true scale marine weapon probably, but for the bottoms I need to kick it up a notch which means they'll have those and maybe some chaos warrior shields stripped down to flat surfaces and enhanced with lots of iconography. I'm also wondering. Would it be cool if this chapter was a sexy hazard orange? Somewhere between red and yellow. Something kind of like this. And black would probably be the off-color. Think salamanders scheme but with such a color of orange instead of green. Automatically Appended Next Post: Maybe I could call them the super ultra mega marines, a super successor chapter of the classic UM. Also... should Fistius Fistgar have the super fancy terminator armor or should I keep him to the artificer armor so he can mount up with his lads in a pod or tank? Automatically Appended Next Post: Also again... when my codex says power weapon does that still mean power axe/sword/mace/spear like in 6th ed? I always liked the idea of taking two power weapons so as to have the option
If that's still the case... spears on the VV of doom could be pretty cool, and less expensive than hammers.

Go Spartan style for the Vanguards with long spears and shields.
That color is eye catching and definitely reinforces the "We are here, deal with it" attitude of BOTTOMs.
I would go Artificer armor unless you plan on a few Terminators to keep him company. You need to model a couple of them giving an epic powerfist fist bump.

Sorry I have missed the last couple days worth of posts, they have been brilliant
I think your in to a winner with the BOTTOM marines, but might I suggest the second O stand for Obnoxious? I mean if your going to be in someone's face with your BOTTOM , might as well be obnoxious about it. You may want to do a search for "Movie Marines". I've seen people fall scale their models and kit them out like your saying, and go with a movie theme. You could do something like the "expendables" characters. Make one have a powerfists with a giant skull ring on the fingers. You could also use the celebrity heads that Madrobot minis makes. I think they used the rules for deathwatch marines for the "movie marines" I saw.
Lastly, there was a kickstarter for flying assault butts by someone here on Dakkadakka. Yes, models of butts that were flying , might fit those in somehow.

Yeah I saw the flying assault butts while it was running but I think I was wiped out from deadzone or something like that
I probably won't go full angry marines or movie marines scale with this project, although I do enjoy the use of obnoxious for the second O, consider that borrowed.
I'm thinking at least one of the marines is gonna steal a cue from Kharn and implement a butch muscly arm from a marauder or something. Maybe even two, power armored tank top ftw.
But the obnoxious part of my force will be a fine line that I'll try to tread. I want them to look super serious, but over the top with ridiculous loadouts. But take themselves seriously. Angry marines don't do this as they have whirlwind tanks with rows of space marines stuffed in the for ammunition or sadfaces on them or what have you. My guys will be aiming for similar poses and way too much gear, but will take themselves super seriously
Hmm... I'm sure there are hard counters (like massed small arms fire ) but I'm really liking the sound of taking one large unit of Honor Guard most of them with relic blades (probably a couple of axes in case they get engaged by similarly armored units) with the chapter banner (glorious +1 attack) and a pod. I guess no more than 9 so Fistius Fistgar can join them. Pop down unload with bolters, start looking for someone to charge. Maybe even pop the tactical doctrine to help those bolters out with a little more pop... Especially since Fistgar lets you use one doctrine twice... Only 360 points
May have to source some big-ass swords though, I'm not sure if I have 5 (figure a mix of 5 relic blades, 3 power axes, and the champion with a thunder hammer should be solid ). Or well I've got some of those grey knight swords.... maybe if I craft some longer handles for them...
Ok so here's a preliminary list... You guys can help me troubleshoot it and keep me on the path to the BOTTOM
2000ish ultramarines
Calgar in artificer
9 honor guard, 5 relic blades, t-ham, chapter banner, pod
5 honor guard, 4 relic blades, t-ham, artifact banner thing, pod
5 vanguard veterans, power spear, storm shield, jump packs, probably melta bombs on some/all of them
10 bolter scouts, hellfire HB, SB sgt, HB LSS
5 scouts with missile, 3 sniper, cloaks, tellion upgrade
2 land speeder typhoons in squadron w/ missiles and bolter
1 land speeder typhoon, HB, TML
Stormtalon gunship with skyhammer and assault cannon
Devastator squad with 4x heavy bolters (these are a requirement for badass factor, probably the coolest looking devastator and 4 of them marching up the field (sometimes relentless with the chapter tactic...) sounds awesome.
So. I don't suspect I should win much. I didn't even manage to fit the land raider (or any tanks) into the list. This does have the PRO of leaving all of my tanks open for the tank graveyard board.
It's what, 20 BOTTOMs with 15 scouts and 5 devastators (they can be tall-scaled too, they technically fit the aesthetic because heavy bolters are awesome IMO). I figure there isn't much point to taking anything in the back field like tanks so I'll load up on land speeders and take my chibitalon 'cause he's so gosh darned cute. Well the devastators will probably deploy on the table somewhere and let their pod fall empty, but mostly no static elements that aren't also either fast or capable of deep strike.
For you guys that have played lately, how laughable is this? I don't expect it to win but killing things in combat with giant swords and hammers, doing *anything* with HB devs, and in general only having to paint a small number of marines and getting to tall scale them is my main goal.
Thoughts? Automatically Appended Next Post: Hey there's another good question... how should I do the tall scaling? I have enough terminators to cover all of the marines if I go terminator legs route. The veteran sergeant/ waist+leg spacers route seems to lend to more dynamic poses though.
What think you noble comrades?
One option would be VS dynamic legs on guard and vets... and terminator legs to bulk out the devs.
The smaller unit of HG may get DA upgrade kit walking robed legs (which are pretty tall) and come complete with those winged da helmets.
Fistius Fistgar is probably gonna be based on however I do the HG but I want him head and shoulders taller, and a little bulkier.
I may also source different backpacks. Something smaller might be cool... may not worry about it.
May also try to work in my already tall scaled techmarine, maybe do a two plasma servitors fire team.

I think the termie legs would do fine for tall scaling the marines. As far as a competitive list goes... well.. I don't think it is at all. But if you are doing it for modeling and fun, who cares? If you do get to play with it, just don't play someone with a WAAC list and you would probably still have a ton of fun with it. Plus, space marines are awesome! Not to mention ,by the time you are done, there may very well be a new edition out which will change everything anyways!

So starting work on the first honor guard... I like the fact that they all come with bolters so I thought I'd emphasize the fact with at least one of them in a dynamic shooting pose. The big black templar sword he's drawing is his relic blade. He will be either running or kneeling, which do you think? Head subject to change, I think I want the honor guard to have helmets though i'm still undecided on fistgar. Automatically Appended Next Post: Another thing that needs to be said... I may be utilizing the same/similar method to VS for making the minis taller, but I'm going to be going to be embracing the scifantasy aspects of 40k and space marines whereas he makes much more sensible and true-to-life poses. I can totally respect that, but I'm certainly not doing it Automatically Appended Next Post: http://www.ebay.com/itm/WARHAMMER-40K-BIN-BITS-BLOOD-ANGELS-DEATH-COMPANY-5x-JUMP-PACKS-/330889107814?pt=Games_US&hash=item4d0a871966 Huh, hoardobits has 5x deathcompany backpacks for 8 bucks. How do you guys feel those stack up? Lol weird. I'll change the title later as I wouldn't want anyone to get too excited in the wrong direction. To be honest though I don't put much stock in urban dictionary. Most of the crap people come up with these days is stupid from my frame of reference and I talk to so few people it doesn't come up. Good spot though, I guess the internet at large may assume my blog odd for the acronym.
