yeah,
On the 6th of February at about 21:30
I found Angry Badgers product thread in news and rumours and instantly thought the dwarf halls looked simply amazing!
My brain was screaming
'you have too many projects on the go!' 'you don't need more warhams!'
'do not buy! you don't even play Dwarfs' 'you don't need these you don't play Warhammer quest or DnD or'
... 'I play BloodBowl shut up brain!'
...and 20mins minutes later my order was placed!

Angry badger produced the halls and got them into the post on the 11th FEb
And I received my package on the 17th – Woohoo!

Super Great packaging. Shrink Wrapped, Double Bubbled and Peanuts! Safe.

Sooo Lets have a look at what I’ve bought.
Contents of the hall set. and contents of the Great Entrance Hall set --->

4x hall sets and 2x great entrance sets!

Some close ups of details..

It looks Lovely : )

But what do I plan to do with it??

...DungeonBowl! ... Duh it's in the title!

I plan to recreate one of the recommended Dungeonbowl layouts that appeared in WD225

So with a bit of planning and cutting

I've settled on this layout.

In my version of the Dungeon Layout the Rooms and Hallways will be less claustrophobic.
The WHQ rooms used in the WD Layout are only 4x4. I feel these are way too small! So I'll be using the 6x6 angry badger tile for each room.
The WHQ Hallways are 2 spaces wide, which again seems too limiting so my Hallways will be three spaces wide, this will enable more assists in straight up fights, while still narrow enough to make blocking access a possibility, especially at door ways!
Angry badger Doorways are one square wide and I feel that this will again be too restrictive, as a big guy standing behind one will be almost unmoveable!
So I'm gonna cut open some larger doors.

So it’s time to get to work!

Sticky!

And that's it for now! What do you think?

Behind you!

Hi,

really looking forward on these developments, progress seems to be fairly quick. Good to have some feedback about the company and the actual dimensions.
As for myself, not sure yet how it would feel game wise and if that would work for me, but would love to have a try given a chance.
The suggested colours from DungeonBowl look pretty exciting, looking forward to what you will choose.
I like the laser cut mdf, it feels good (my paint station is made of the same stuff, I like how smooth it feels)
the details are good enough for what it is even though repetitive.
Conclusion: waiting with joy for what's to come in this thread.

Very interesting, I'd clocked those Angry Badger sets - they look nice for the comparatively low price point. Your board is off to a really good start.

Can't say I ever played Dungeon Bowl despite playing a load of Blood Bowl. Can you play it on any layout or does it need symmetry/maximum size etc?

Exciting stuff Panic, I remember playing Dungeon Bowl when it came out was great fun.

I'm still trying to find an excuse to paint a BB team up as there are so many excellent models out there at the moment.

I saw the Angry Badger sets as well and wondered what they could be used for, so glad you came up with this idea.

I will be watching your progress

I think the rock grey that angry badger has done looks great! I'll do a few colour tests on some spare bits to test out some other colour schemes ?
The 'end zone' rooms should definently have opposing colours red / blue in either the wall decorations or floor tiles.

Bruticus wrote:...Can't say I ever played Dungeon Bowl despite playing a load of Blood Bowl. Can you play it on any layout or does it need symmetry/maximum size etc?
You can use any dungeon you have/make.
The great news is that DungeonBowl is a free download via GW!! so you can get a feel for it by reading the rules.
Dungeon_Bowl.pdf
I Think rules just need minor tweaks to get flowing with the most current bloodbowl rules.

Cool Cool.
Should be able to get a fair bit of construction done this weekend and have a update for you with some section subassemblies.

Panic...

yeah,
Few hours in the war room today and got two assemblies done.
1 long edge and 1 short edge.

Did a lot of fiddling around with which tiles to use so that the archways lined up nicely.
in the first photo you can see some balsa wood strips I'm using as edge construction.

Corridor 'end' sections being used to create a section of wall with triple decorative wall knots for the centre line.

The decorative wall knots were placed between sections and sunk into the gap to they are less fat...
For the short edge one of the corridor end sections was shortened and the wall knots sliced to half thickness and used to hide the join..

The rough edges of this cut were filled with no more nails and covered by (the sliced thin) wall knots.

The cheap balsa wood should be hidden construction, I'm using the balsa so that the dungeon walls can move off the floor tiles.
The balsa wood could be seen at bottom of the doors (like in the first photo below) and archways.
I'm using some mini tile styrene sheet to cover this balsa wood up.

The two section were left to dry.

And this is the two completed sections. They will remain separate to make painting easier.

and some playing about photos...

All good so far!
I ordered two more corridor packs, just to make sure I don't run out of wall sections!

I am considering a chequered colour scheme.
I think each square is easy enough to see, a player will covering the tile 'circle' of his space.

The big issue comes from square size interaction with the throw template.
(some people make custom throw templates so that the range is adjusted to tile size!)
So I did a quick check on how it compares with official bloodbowl boards.

1 square original dungeon bowl tile.............. = 23mm = Quick Pass 5 tiles............ Short Pass 10 tiles
1 square Angry Badger tile.............................. = 25mm = Quick Pass 4.5 (5) tiles... Short Pass 9 tiles
1 square Blodbowl 2nd edition astrogranit.. = 25mm = Quick Pass 4.5 (5) tiles... Short Pass 9 tiles
1 square Bloodbowl 3rd ed grass space..... = 29mm = Quick Pass 4 tiles............. Short Pass 8 tiles
1 square WHQ Dungeon bowl endzone tile. = 28mm = Quick Pass 4 tiles............. Short Pass 8 tiles

Being that It's the same as Second edition, I think I'll just use the ruler as normal.

Flashman wrote:Ah, I do love a good Panic P&M blog. Certainly intrigued by this latest venture
Huzzah!

Some more progress, I've completed the outside wall of the dungeon.
This went much quicker as I copied the cuts and tiles from the opposite walls.
The clips were an amazing buy for this project.
I'd say essential! Imagine having to hold each section while the glue sets.

And a test fit. The edges line up pretty good.

The board is going to be big... exciting times!

Paint is quite far off I think.

Todays mini update is brought to you by the number 144, F***Buggery, and Thor the god of thunder and caffine!

for the main room I need wall lengths 144mm long, and wanted dwarf idol in the centre panel.
Cuts were made as follows.

the alcove area walls were easy to make.
I used 30thou thick plastic card so the wall knots pop out a little.

And made four of everything.

Main room walls almost done!

I hope to get a lot of stuff done this weekend... more updates to follow!

This is well timed. Two mates and I have just started a little mini-league to be played midweek. We now have a fourth player joining us, so we can all play each week. How do you and Ian fancy getting in on it? We play at my mate's flat in Woolwich, so far. Nick has Dwarfs, I am playing Dark Elves (mixing my Tolkien and non-Tolkien plurals there, but never mind) and Rich has Chaos Dwarves (bwu-hahaha. No grammar or spelling rules can bind me!). Not sure what Eddy will go for yet...

Or in the actual terrain... I will be using some of the large dwarf Idols soon enough!
I've also started eBaying dwarf sheilds and banners and looking for other dwarf bits to use on some of the arch in the walls.!

I very much recommend the set.
I'm using the bits as a fixed layout, but if you look at the product, the walls can be free standing to create varying layouts.

I've been sticking more stuff down, woot!
The board comes apart into six sections, but each sections floor tiles are now glued together.
This makes moving things around to see how things will add up much easier.

I worked out a simple construction for the small rooms (the join will be hidden by a wall knot).

And a simple corner set up for the junction of the big hall.

The corridor corners were much more tricky to cut, as the wall butted up into the centre of a arch way.
but a bit of working out and these corner archs don't look bad at all : )

I've just gotta cut three more of them during the next session...

And this is where the project is at.

Feeling good.

A little play around with in the new area to remind myself why I'm building this!

... That's the end of todays dungeon bowl dungeon workshopping session.

Technically for dungeon bowl games wizards from the the college of magic rent Dungeons out for the games! They make their money back via cabal vison!
Some somewhere in the background you can imagine there is a dwarf making money!

At a minimum I'll need chests and portals.
I shall be making 6 custom Portals... I have a few ideas running around my head on how to do these.
I also need 6 Chests. I like soda pops, they look great! I need to track down a way of getting 6 of them. I'll keep looking around.

and I found an American selling them five for $15 including postage on eBay.

Ha great minds think alike, I was concidering the evil soda pop chest! (I'm not in love with soda pop honest!)
Spoiler:

For those that don't know dungeon bowl. the Ball starts the game hidden in one of 6 random chests, the other 5 chests explode.
Players open chests looking for the ball!

It would be easy to house rule a evil chest into the game! 1 ball chest, 4 bomb chests and 1 cursed chest.

-Evil Chest.-
once opened evil chest is controlled by your opponent and has the following stats
M3 S3 AV8
Evil Chest may only make blocks against the model that opened the chest.
Evil Chest does not provide assists, but can be assisted during a block.
Evil Chest does not have tackel zones
Evil Chest occupies 1 square.
Evil Chest can not pick up the ball.
Evil Chest does not cause turn overs.
Evil Chest is removed from play if knocked over.

I tackled the awkward corners

So the only things left to construct now are the corners by the entrance doors.

And the main halls cove walls and side entrance.

and look we have almost all of the the walls!

Exciting times.
I feel like I should explain the 'empty' areas!? they are going to made into boxes, and felt lined to hold dice, tokens, chest and portals.
My plan is the whole dungeon will be mounted inside a wooden box. The lid will come off and be used as a dice rolling area, it will have the dug outs inculding the Score/Turn trackers.
(I know dungeon bowl is only played till one goal but i think I'll play regular blood bowl games on this too!)
The Dugouts might be 3D too as I have loads of Dungeon bits left over!

Looks great, I really love this project. For the closed off rooms maybe you could have a closed door going to them, that way if you wanted to use your board for something other than Dungeon Bowl, say a quick game of Mordheim or something like Heroquest, you could gain four more locked rooms.

It really reminds me of a Heroquest board. My only critique is that the lasercut wood looks quite neat and uniform, perhaps you could add some deformities and details around the place eventually, like say one wall that is partially bare rock, some broken flooring, etc.
