Are you planning on casting all these up? I like what I see thus far.

Thank you. My plans are to cast the IG sergeant/commander. The knight themed one (The nearly finished one with the powe fist and cape) isn't designed to be casteable. Kerrigan was planed to be cast but the project has slowed down a bit(sorry but all the tiny details are really frightening ... ). I plan on finishing her but i can't say how long it will take. Also how casteable she'd be at the end i can't say. Because details like her hair and all the bonespikes it will be really tricky to pull off.
And most of my chaos stuff isn't planed to be cast.

Doom I loved the cut away horns, but different styles you say? Do tell do tell!

My sculpting skills involve me filling in gaps and smothing the line between pieces that don't fit well. nothing like your ability, so if you make more along those lines, I would love to see them brother!

Well I must say that I am enjoying what I am seeing of Kerrigan so far, and I'm gleefully looking forward to how she progresses. If you can do her to the same quality of these two IG commanders you have been working on I will be a happy man =)

Well i still have problems with dynamic poses and characterfull faces. Both kerrigan sculpts stoped at a stage where the body was done the arms started to take shape and then the heads.
Where i struggle the most is the art aspect of it. I'm more of a technican than an artist. I have learned sculpting but even if my technic is great the art lacks.
What i hope to prove is that i can at least go the full way and not stop halfway. I have made a bad attempt at it till now but i'm still planing on restarting the work on kerrigan - maybe even finishing the old attempt as well.

Keep nagging me about her and i might actually finish what i have started.

You got it boss. If the throat ripping pose is not going to work out, the other idea of her owning the battle field is a nice alternative. What ever gets her done and beautiful =P

I looked at the decimator and contemptor for some time now but those might be the final reason to place my first order with forgeworld.

I just saw those today as well! Love them. Still not thrash metal combi-guitars, but so, so much better than the flimsy noise marine weapons we've grown used to.

They are damn sexy and would no doubt fit in nicely with your current noise marines, with a bit of... minor editing.

Now i just have to wait until they are available for order. And knowing myself i might even fill up the order with other stuff (like the decimator kit) or something i can use for my sisters project)

And now on to more images.

Kerrigan looks decent i'd say. The next step is to decide how to splitt her into parts for actual casting. I think that i can cast the whole body including the head. I might cut the arms away below the shoulders and use these areas as connection zone. This way she has at least some reposeability and the mould is easier to create. Cutting the head away is out of the question. I fear that i'll rip the head and troat into pieces as there is a thick wire in it that would require a wire cutter. (And those aren't known for clean and precise cutting) And i'm thinking of making most of her hair as a seperate pieces as well. If i put the hair piece on a different mold i can recast this difficult part better without having a ton of spare bodies.

The sergeants body is finished now. If i have suiteable heads i can cast it as planed. The arm that is currently on her is the arm for the commander with the power fist behind her back.
I currently have those two heads. The one on the body actually has the necessary peg to glue it. (But adding a tiny bit of GS with the glue is probably a better bound there.) The other head just need a few touchups.
What do you think of those heads?

And like i said the faceplate heads are rather easy and quick to create. Here are two variations that i put together in less than an hour (not counting the curing time) Personally i don't necessary need those heads but if there is enough interest i can add a few more and cast them up for you. What do you say?

And finaly a noise themed backpack prototype. It is a bit older but it might be one where finishing to a decent result is a possibility.

keep it up doom, all your tips have been nothing but a huge help to me. that face on jetpack is looking great, like his vent-teeth

also digging the curly eyed faceplate thing.

on the jump pack-lady, are you soldering the rods together before greenstuffing? or are you just drilling holes in the hard nub of hand, gluing rod skeletons for fingers in, and then covering them?

I was reading on impact miniatures- are you a sculptor? page and they require a skeleton throughout the entirety of the model from what I read, so I was curious if the methodolgy you were using and if drilling into hands that were on an armature then gluing finger skeletal rods into them would be "enough" for them?

My armatures aren't as perfectly created like that. I just use wires and wrap other wires around and fix them with a bit of glue and putty. No soldering(never was good at it. )

And what i have done recently for hands is build the arm up till the wrist. Then i drill really thin wires into the wrist Those 5 wires will be the base of the fingers and the whole hand.

thanks mate!

makes me feel better, i can't solder worth gak! I wrap my wires and glue also... and sometimes pack putty around to help strengthen it... extremely hard to do with thick gauge wire like old wire coat hangers though, need to use some thin wire to wrap them together but always too lazy to go find some it seems hehe

stuff is all looking very awesome

Love how the Imperial commander is coming - you have both the 'professional soldier' and 'noble family' looks going with the heads (professional wears a helmet and the noble stays bare headed imho)

You got the Cadian helmet down perfectly to by the way, love it and the powerfist gives the term "B****slap" a whole new meaning

Some questions that i have.

Do you use pressmolds ever.
What is the lighter colored sculpting material you use.
Do you ever let thin sheets of GS partially harden, then cut them and apply them to your sculpts.

You are a prolific, creative and fearless sculpter. Love seeing what you are doing here. In a word. Awesome.

I have two other female heads that i could work up into alternate heads for the guard sergeant/commander. One is an older one with less details so adding lots of details might be the best (maybe the best option for a bionic eye or an eyepatch one)
One will have some more commanderesque headwear and i'm open for additional ideas was well.

 sennacherib wrote:

I use pressmolds for different things. I used some different pressmolds to get the basic shapes of the chaos terminator torsos and joints right as well as dublicating a detail removed shoulder for the base of all their shoulders. And i'll probably use it again to get a few details for my sisters of battle project. I have a pressmold for one shoulder that will hoepfully allow me to build my own shoulder variant from them. But it is just to get the basic shape and start from there. It is not ment to platantly copy from GW.

But i haven't used it for adding details itself to a model. (At least not recently. My first army had pressmolded custom chapter icons on their shoulders.)

What is the lighter colored sculpting material you use.

I use two putties, GS and miliput. Miliput is yellow and i often mix it with GS. So the lighter material is either milliput or a mix of both.

Do you ever let thin sheets of GS partially harden, then cut them and apply them to your sculpts.

Only used it for a few models and all the time on free hanging stuff like cloaks and similar details. Roll it onto a smooth surface covered in vaseline, wait an hour and then cut it to shape and apply to the model. And as i always used it for free hanging stuff i add in milliput for additional stability.

You are a prolific, creative and fearless sculpter. Love seeing what you are doing here. In a word. Awesome.

Thank you.

Just a quick pictureless update. I decided to even put three heads on the first mold of the sergeant. Two are already fimished and i only need to wait for the third one. It will be a helmetless head with longer hair, an eyepatch and a larger com on one ear.
Thenon the commander variation i'll use both the helmetless heads as a base and just add two different style of commanderlike caps on those heads.

The other non powerfist arm is also in the work and only needs the shoulder epaulets. So once the third head is ready i'll cast everything up and just need to add a trenchcoat and the caps and i can make the second mold.
But as next week will be the start of my masters thesis my sculpting time will be reduced. So i can't how long i need to finish everything.

And a quick update.

Just the cap to finish and then it should be done. I'd say this turned out to be the sculpt i put the most effort in and i hope it shows.

And also a small update on the 3rd head for the IG sergeant. Still need to finish the rest of her hear and replace the wire with the peg to assemble her.

And also a quick update on kerrigan. No picture just a small progress update. I cut away one arm of the armature and soon i will reglue it to sculpt the arm. The glue hopefully should be strong enough to hold the arm in place but weak enough to later remove it again for casting. And i made a pressmold of the back of her body and made a pressmold of that pressmold. The result is a instant mold copy of her head and back. I used that to start working on her hair. This way i have a good surface to work on and hold the whole thing. And once it is done i can remove it easily and have a reperate hair piece that will fit onto kerrigans body.

Also do you remember my walker style vindicator? I started working on it again like i said. I changed to approach for the legs and are currently builing them up. This is how he looks right now.

The amount of work you put into that IG commander definitely shows! However, I think the cap takes away from the feel of the model and doesn't really fit with the rest of her. Other than that, the detail is amazing and the quality of the sculpt is top notch! Looking forward to seeing the other IG officer and Kerrigan come to completion. Also that walker vindicator is sweet, very blood slaughterer and brass scorpion esk.

Loving your work as usual, the IG commander is magnificent (and I dig the Patrol Cap on her) and makes me want to weep over my pathetic sculpting skills. The Walker vindicator is very chaos appropriate and I can't wait to see how it comes out.

Okay, the GS on the 3rd head needs to cure and i'll mold the IG sergeant tomorrow. And i think i can finish the knight themed IG officer tomorrow as well.

Kerrigan still needs some time. I started with the arms and the hair is halfway done. I'm too lazy today to take pictures so you have to wait for tomorrow.
