I just went to my local store, they have the Tau codex at $49.50 US and the Tau limited edition codex as a GW-only direct order at $100. Does anyone know what the heck is in the limited edition codex that makes it cost twice as much?

It has a different cover and some kind of thank you note in it. It's a scam.

It has whatever magic makes them sell out of limited edition Codexes, and GW is pricing them to what the market will bear. I expect that limited edition Codexes will continue getting more and more expensive until GW stops selling out within 2 weeks or so of release.

FW are expensive at 10 but would be OK at 9 with a few decent built-in upgrades. But that isn't what GW will write.
I await a pleasant surprise at my mistaken apprehension.

Either some of the prices listed in this thread are wrong, or the White Dwarf has a typo. White Dwarf lists crisis suits at $75US and the battleforce as $130US.

So I've sketched a little redesign for the Riptide that I will personally try to scratchbuild. (since I don't particularly like the GW design and it's too expansive for my taste.)
Maybe some of you can get some inspiration out of this as well.

Ravenous D wrote:All stores GW or otherwise get their shipments on the wednesday (If the FLGs put their order in on monday this applies).
This simply isn't true. I do the ordering for my store and always place my orders as early as possible Monday morning. In recent memory we've gotten our shipment by Wednesday once. Usually restocks show up on Thursday, and orders that include new releases show up on Friday. We're a two-day ship from GW, but they don't always ship the day the order's placed, and they ship orders later on new release weeks, likely as some combination of trying not to tempt stores to break street dates and having a higher volume of orders to pack than normal.

Now on a side note, most people will cry Haxs! and they will ignore the weak troop choices regardless if Tau can multi Overwatch with units not being charged.
Word is that FWs will be 7 points/model. A guy on 4chan did some crazy math from the WD battle report and he concluded that FWs will be 8 ppm at maximum, but 7 is more likely. And at 7 ppm, they ain't that bad at all!
This does not seem at all likely to me. 7 point Fire Warriors would be extremely good-- perhaps one of the best Troops choices in the game. I currently believe that Fire Warriors are fine at 10 points, perhaps slightly weak, and it sounds like they are getting better. If they go below 9 points, expect to see lots and lots of Fire Warriors on the battlefield.
7 or 8 point Fire Warriors will result in my Eldar army suddenly fielding two 12-man-strong units of "Guardians with Light Scatter Lasers" and "Heavy Wraithlords with Rail Lances". Hell, even at 9 points they'd be significantly better than Guardians and quite possibly better than Dire Avengers in terms of consistent amounts of Dakka per Point.

With free Photon Grenades, I'm thinking about 9 points each is about right.
I'm just really curious about what other options we'll get for them... additional drones, more markerlight options, maybe different types of FW squads that are higher priced but can take other things (i.e. IG veterans vs. infantry squads)?

Would like to point out that I tottally called the fighter weapon bays, even if I didn't think they popped out like that. LOL And the fluff writers can shove the grimdark flavor back into the other armies please and thank you. The only way I'll continue to play my Tau is if, and only if, I get to be the good guy. I'm fine with them being down in the muck, slug out, knock down, bad ___ fighters. But the second you tell me I'm just another bad guy in a world of bad guys...I'm out. My old codex is still legible and doesn't cost $50 bucks for no reason, so I'll use that. Getting excited for the models anyway. Now that I've seen more then one model of each I'm seeing how they may be custumoized! KIT BASH TIME!!!!

Tau can get more grimdark if it's done in an elegant way without the sledgehammer subtle writing of the usual 12 year old fluff guys.
Personally, I'd love to see the fan theory about the tau being the descendants of the necrontyr as part of some huge plan moved more into canon.

They can be Grimdark and be good guys at the same time. They just don't need to be shinning white knights of morality. Give them a good dose of "war is hell" and cover them in mud and blood in the fluff.

Sure if all you're used to is "Speyce Mureeens!" then they might seem like a breath of fresh air, but their background has always painted them as militant and expansionist, more than willing to exercise force when things don't go their way and of having a class-based society based on mind-control or enslavement of the masses with everyone who isn't Tau as the bottom-of-the-barrel underclass. Personally, I'm hoping the Commander is more customisable than it appears. But, with it being fail-cast I think I'll probably end up grabbing a FW XV9, adding some alternate weapons and calling that my commander instead.

No, that would be a gigantic error. Big problem with Necron fluff is that it is too specific about them (and other younger races like Ork and Eldar), not leaving enough for mystery. Subtle hints that something's amiss with Tau is much more effective.
Similarly, Tyranid origin is deliberately left to imagination, with such suggestions that they might be fleeing some even more terrible alien threat - now that's a hair-raising idea.

Probably something along the lines of 4-6 TL S7 AP3 shots, or overcharge for a few S8 small blasts. At least going off of what the rumors for the Riptide and Interceptor Drones / Pathfinders may be carrying.
