The way Veskrashen's post is worded, it sounds as though Crisis Teams will be no smaller than 3. In which case GW is selling us the squad minimum in that box set. In which case there's no good reason to buy just 1 or 2, especially at a markup.
Keep in mind that the above is a relay from a guy on ATT - I can't confirm that Crisis are a minimum of 3 in the new codex. The way his post was worded made it sound like the max squad size was 4 though.

"Farsight Enclave Firewarrior Shoulder pads" - WE GET CUSTOMISED SHOULDER PADS?!?!? Holy cow bell. Makes a nice change.
Also - in that pic of the leaked Codex there are a few various suit sizes. Maybe one of those is the Enforcer armour?
If Forgeworld released Sept-specific pads I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
Technically the new Battlesuit Commander is the Enforcer. I'm just surprised Matt Holland mentions designing it when it's another person that sculpted it. Maybe they'll release a plastic later?

Anyone have any thoughts or information on this?
Maybe it was just me, because I can't find anything to back it up now that I'm searching, but I was pretty sure the Multi Tracker part officially pulled double-duty as a Drone Controller
It was definitely listed as both in the 3rd edition codex. They just painted it different colors on the studio army.

The fact that the same exact kit was already available for $49.50 is precisely why it is garbage that it went up to $60. GW priced the Sky Ray $49.50 knowing full well its contents. This isn't them making a proper adjustment, it is simply a price hike. Unless they add in some fancy new drone or weapon sprues it is an unwarranted price increase using the new release as an excuse.
I agree, that is why, while all of you were busy being upset by the price hike that we all knew was coming, I bought a Sky Ray NIB tonight for $42 off of Ebay.
Seriously though, I picked up the last cheap one currently listed while bits shopping for all of the upcoming converting that we are going to have to do (I'm betting that Missile pods will no longer be the weapon load-out of choice for the XV8's)
So yeah, Bits shopping tonight and reserved my WD today.....hard to believe that I am finally starting to buy for the update.
On the topic of bits, I wonder if they'll see a sudden spike in the sales of stealth suits as people use the torsos to convert bigger heads for the Riptide and use the shoulderpads to convert Fire Warriors into Fire Blades.

True, true. But it is a bit upsetting how few of its 5 shots ever end up killing anything. I picture the CIB to be like an assault cannon, but firing more volatile ammunition. I suppose it's just wishful thinking. But still, S3?? Awful...
I actually use the CIB all the time. I run it on my BS5 commander with a Plasma rifle, and pair him with a unit of Burst cannon/Plasma suits. It goes with the Plasma nicely. With BS5 he usually hits with all of them, and because it usually needs 5 or 6's to wound, basically all the wounds ignore armor. I often get about 2 6's, so that combined with the plasma usually combines for plenty of AP2 fire. Do I wish it was str 4? Yes. Do I wish it actually had rending (as opposed to pseud-rending)? yes. Is it pretty good as is? Yes.

Captain Avatar wrote:Rented Tritium wrote:Tau can get more grimdark if it's done in an elegant way without the sledgehammer subtle writing of the usual 12 year old fluff guys.
Personally, I'd love to see the fan theory about the tau being the descendants of the necrontyr as part of some huge plan moved more into canon.
I'd prefer it if the tau were either made by the last remaining Old Ones or were affected by something the Adeptus Mechanicus "accidentally" left on the Tau home world when they first discovered them.
I'd even prefer the Tau being the creation of the Eldar over the 'Crons. Seriously, the 'crons being the ancestors of the Tau "would" be the sledgehammer writing of the usual fluff.
Now a mysterious fated purpose from the old ones or some secret design of the Ad Mech could easily be written in an elegant nebulous grim/dark manner.
If you check in the gw book Xeneology (which by the way, is actually pretty good) it leads to the conclusion that the meddlers in the tau are indeed the Eldar.
There is a ton of great fluff (from most of the races) including some amazing biology stuff on the orks and the nids, and overall the book has a fun story as well.
I had also heard from others who follow more books and fluff than I do, that the motivation for the eldar in messing with tau evolution was
1 - the eldar were dying out
2 - tau are immune / mostly immune to chaos.
Kind of them needing a long term ally or survivor in the war against chaos and the ctan maybe. (last part is my own personal speculation).
Also, as the eldar an an Old ones child race, in a way, the tau are their eventual inheritors. While some tau players may not like this, to be honest, I think its kind of cool.
But each to their own.
So, back to rumors and stuff.
Broadsides:
Will just use my old ones until I can covert my XV9's (oh why, gw, why wont you add fw units in....).
Combining two old railguns (I have a lot) will not be hard to make a new double barreled heavy rail rifle - the challenge I think will be in figuring out how to mount one to an XV9, and what to put in the other hand.
(the sms?).
Building the "Missile-side" may be more interesting....I am considering either something like a missile cluster weapon (three misile pods in a triad formation around a stock and handle?).
If only my 3d cad skills were better...
Fireblade:
Depending on how many you can actually get in an army, and their use, I will prolly only buy one.
If I need more (i.e. it makes sense to field more than one) I will just try to convert fire warriors, to get different poses.
On another note; have skyrays gone up in price in your local store yet?

A few years back there was an extremely well done Fan-fic story about the Tau and their dominance of the known 40k universe. The Imperium had been pushed back to Segmentum Solar and the Orks had been biologically altered by the Tau to accept the Greater Good as their philosophy (even going as far as calling them Grey Skins) But the overriding conclusion was the Eldar had altered the Tau to defeat Chaos and to Close the Eye of Terror.
The story itself was told from an Ultramarine who was lost in the warp and was found thousands of years later.....
I would only buy a Broadside now for the Missile suit option. I have 4 old Broadside suits already. That is the best part of this upcoming release, most Tau players can get away with only spending $250 tonight! (Riptide, Broadside, Sunshark, Codex)

Just to bring this up again, I noticed the Chaos Marines codex is $50 and the limited edition was $83. That came with a bookmark, silver-lined pages, and a blood-spattered cover. I'm still curious as to how the limited edition Tau codex will warrant double the price. Maybe you're all right and it's GW testing just how much they can charge for a limited edition book.

I'm sorry you're bad at understanding things.
I can't decide if it would be funnier if you didn't understand the irony, or if it was that you honestly believed that fan theory was better than GW writing. Rule #1, have a good one, keep doin' your thing champ.
So are you ever going to post something substantive about this or are you just going to make fun of me over it without explaining your thoughts? "Hurr durr, nope" is not actually a worthwhile post.

It seems to me that the vast majority of fan theories are worse than GW writing. GW writing may not be good but "they were necrontyr all along" is lazy and doesn't fit into the background. The current fluff is pretty much the exact opposite in fact -- that the Tau were aided by the Eldar who are not fans of the necrontyr at all. In this, Tau = necrontyr is more hamfisted than some of the hammiest GW writing, hence the perceived irony when you propose that as a great fluff idea and bash GW's admittedly sometimes dumb fluff in the same breath.

Not technically, it is the XV8-05 Crisis "Enforcer" armor. I also wouldn't hold your breath on plastic for it, as I just don't see it happening.
The size chart shows the XV-8 as having a separate waist like the Enforcer armor, which indicates the direction of the design if/when they do update the plastic kit. For now, GW is just milking more profit out of the old sprues. They can update the Crisis suit anytime they feel like.

TL heavy 4 shot would be 8 missiles, so the Missiletide only has enough ammo for 4 turns of shooting. Also assuming that the arm pods and shoulder mount are not two different systems (normal SMS for the shoulder, and heavier version on the arms)

I'm not really a fan of krootox squads, but I'm also glad that kroot are still in.
Didn't really like them when I started playing tau, and never field mine, but they really grew on me, and now I would be more than happy to actually use them.^^
Also for all those who think Tau lacking grim darkness, Kroot are the more grim and dark than most of the other races out there.. XD
I know they are not Tau, but the fact that they ally with such creatures is rather sinister

I love what I'm hearing about the codex! Improvements all around!
While We get some really cool new units, and the units we have are either getting less expensive or better to match the point values.
My biggest fear, however, is...
I haven't heard anything new regarding new troops or heck, even dividing kroot from their hounds or oxes. (how boss would it be to have a pack of kroot hounds that only required one kroot pack-herder?). I'm not wishlisting here, but I have heard NOTHING about new troop options, and that scares me, not because I think FW are bad, but because If we only have 2 troop choices, it's very easy for our opponants to build a one-size-fits-all anti-fw build. Giving us options at least keeps opponants on their toes on what we could bring to the table.
I mean yes. Other armies only have 1-2 troop choices, but it's either because it's their flavor (Necrons), or they're so dang reliable (SM, CSM and Necrons again), Or their super customizable (SM, CSM, ect.) So it does happen, but it's not as much of a negative impact on other teams.
We show up with 2 troop choices, the best of which is somewhat uncustomizable and mediocre at surviving (NOT complaining about their damage potential), we are immediately put at a disadvantage. My opponants know EXACTLY what troops I'm bringing, and he knows what they'll be packing every time. So he can tailor his lists. It's frusterating.
Besides that, absolutely estatic about the new codex stuff I've been hearing. Can't wait!
Bah, edits due to spelling.
