Anyway. I like the Tau Bomber a great deal more then before now that I can see it in 3D. Hell, I'd even keep the struts - I think if you relocated the winglets that are currently hidden under the main wings to the rearmost third of the struts, it would look great.

Hammerhead is $60? Hah.

I agree, but I think the streamers make the model, frankly. They look awesome.

I have played PURE Tau in 6th Ed and done pretty well without the need for Allies. I hate the Allies rule and will never use it. (non-comp scene I must add)

I keep Firewarriors in the back or in reserve/in Devilfish going flat out and focus on making sure NOTHING gets to my objectives or survives long enough if they do get to it. There are plenty of ways to get objectives without just going "I'M GOING TO SIT HERE ALL GAME AND I MUST BE SO TOUGH NOT TO DIE"

Really do not see the new Codex becoming "must take Allies" list. Jeez. It's the end of the world already :/

There was a sentence in the new WD regarding weapons "The Tau now have bigger, better weaponry and lots more of it" (something along those lines) so I'm pretty confident we will be fine :-)

I do, and for any other army I would probably hate it, but for tau, I kind of love that toylike feeling.

Interceptor Drones can disembark at any point during the Sun Shark's move (even though models cannot normally disembark from Zooming Flyers).

I want this book to come out soon, the more I try to think what GW might have done to try and balance this book, all come back to is some set of special allies rules that lets us take more troop allies then most armies are allowed to take. So at <2k pts we'll have something like 6 of our own troops and like another 4 allied troop options. Something that make us buy new Tau units and units from other codecies.

Thats the only thing that makes sense seeing that they gave us only 3 new HQs (With one redone HQ), 1 new elite, no troops, 2 new fast(mando fliers), and no new heavies (1 redone heavy and a heavy SC).

Had one last minute thought, did they leak the rules for Dark Strider? He may be the saving grace of the book if he makes pathfinders troops, effectively giving us our version of IG veterans for our Fire Warriors.(Hopefully BS4 as well)

From what I had heard, no.

Plus, pathfinders wouldn't make very good troops. Only Carbines (which may get good, who knows), plus only 5+ armor, and bound to be more expensive than FWs.

After taking probably my 8th look at the new stuff i have come to the conclusion that my favourite kit is the pathfinders. For this reason alone.

>Dat trigger discipline

But that aside i think the only things i'll be getting from this release is the Codex, Pathfinders and maybe a riptide. Everything else can either be converted or gotten from Forgeworld for a better price. I may even skip the pathfinders and riptide if it turns out there are better options.

There is nothing I don't love about this center guy here:

The pose, the expression, the way the his backpack antenna subtle suggest swords.

But he looks kinda pissed I thought Tau didn't get emotional? I don't know much about them though.

Ouch, those prices hurt. Especially on Farsight. Which sucks, because that is an awesome model.

Why did the firewarriors go up 1.25?

I do like the broadsides once I got a good look at them. And it is nice to see that crisis suits went down in price.

Four things that make me laugh about this whole release:

1.) Core units getting an almost 24% price increase without any change in the box make up (from $29.75 to $36.25). Other price increases throughout the model line as well.
2.) Reading the text on the Riptide saying that the overwhelming response was that players wanted new, BIGGER battlesuits. I could see the more battlesuits, but I'm sure the feedback wasn't to have a four-story walking building as a model.
3.) Seeing $701 and $880 bundles. Has GW really gone this crazy? We've moved from a game to GW thinking they are selling small cars for a business.
4.) $100 for a 96-pg. color codex? I just bought a 256-pg. full-color coffee-table size (9x12 pages) Atlas of Military History, with beautiful illustrations, maps and photographs throughout for $24.98 at Barnes & Noble.

Glad I sold my last army off a couple months ago and have finally given up on the GW plastic crack. The pricing has gone from ludicrous to absolutely insane.

I think some people are just taking things too literally. The codex probably says something about Tau not displaying really strong emotions and being cool and collected most of the time, and people have interpreted it as "Tau don't feel emotion. Ever." I'm reading Tau Empire again and don't see anything about "Tau not showing emotion", but funnily enough I did see, on page 2 no less, an image of a screaming fire warrior who doesn't look too unlike the pictured pathfinder model, so it seems like this is nothing new.

Reminds me of when the teaser came out and people acted like they were surprised, and that the whole galactic conquest angle is something "new" for Tau, when IT'S BEEN THERE ALL ALONG. Upon first contact they offer the hand of friendship, but it's in a "Resistance is futile"-kind-of-way. In fact that's what this suggests right here on page 10: "The Greater Good requires that all join together and acknowledge the guidance of the Ethereal caste, and this includes any and all races with whom the Tau come into contact. Perhaps unsurprisingly, few races are willing to surrender unreservedly, and so the Fire caste has gone to war on numerous occasions. Those worlds that will not willingly join the empire are dragged to the negotiating table under threat of annihilation. Those that remain openly defiant face obliteration under the orbital guns of the Air caste fleet."

So it just seems to me that there's a lot of misinformation about Tau, and that it's almost all caused by people who just haven't read their fluff.

Impressed that the Broadside and Riptide have at least two poses.

Except for the prices, I think it's a good release. Still not doing Tau though.

Well, I did hedge and say I didn't really know.

I wonder what the fluff will be like in the new book. To be honest I've always sort of been intrigued by Tau - perhaps they will be my next army to half-build and then abandon. If nothing else, I guess they could team up with my orks, right? The paintjob looks simple as well - basecoat, one strip of highlight....hmm.

Why? I need the Codex anyway to keep running my existing forces under the updated rules. My preorder will be the Codex and a box of the new Pathfinders.

I'm of course tempted to buy more, but it seems wiser to wait until I have the book in hand before committing, especially given what happened with the Dark Angel flyers. GW seems to have learned their lesson at least partially and has lowered the price on the Tau flyers, but it remains to be seen whether or not they will have improved their ability to write appropriately-priced flyer rules!

Also, interesting that prices on Pathfinders and Crisis Suits dropped with the new release, though prices on Broadsides, Farsight, and the Hammerhead rose, so you can't really consider this a price decrease as you would with the Dark Eldar or Necron releases.

Just ordered the (regular) Codex, 1 Riptide, 2 Bombers, 2 Broadsides, 1 Pathfinder team. With a sweet 30% off at my FLGS. But even at that discount I'm not paying for any Failcast or overpriced monopose plastic leaders.

I happily pre-ordered the codex, a flier and a riptide. Everything else thats new and shiny is stuff I can convert if I really "want" it. these two items, are nice looking models and with a little effort could be amazing models. Rule -wise I see them working out, one way or another, filling a niche we need. The Riptide provides a nice amount of firepwoer and is a bullet magnet that will survive quite a bit of firepower on a normal basis while still doing it's job, making my fliers and hammerheads safer in the long run. The bomber has template galore. I always want more templates when a shoddy S7 AP4 one. The idea of having S8 Ap2 templates makes me smile.

Why?

I can understand holding off on the models, I certainly wouldn't pre-order them till I had seen the rules in case they are a total flop, but if you intend to play the army you will be doing it with the new Codex, so why not get it right at release?

Also I have to say, I'm surprised by all the complaints about pricing, I understand being upset about increases to the Skyray kit, but everything else turned out pretty much as expected, I can't help but feel like everyone else forgets that Warhammer 40k is an expensive hobby between every new release, some really specific form of amnesia, only to be continually outraged. I mean I get it in so far as, I wish I could buy my stuff cheaper too, but as a reaction to a new release which is mostly priced in line with other kits of a similar scale, I don't really get the reaction.

I dont get it. Why is GW trying to outprice me out of the hobby? Was Hobbit such a success that all products are going to have its prices soon?

Anyway, rather dig the new Drones and Battlesuits. Still, not interested to start another army with price increases like this.

Seems kinda disappointing to think that a lot of people don't read the fluff. Or at least read it well enough to understand the army. I can tell you that's the first thing I did when I got the last Tau codex is read it. Every last word, and multiple times. The reason I love 40k is the fluff. Otherwise I could play any mini war game.

The problem I have with allies and Tau is that really any army combination is valid fluff wise. Thanks to the pseudo-friendly nature of Tau diplomacy, there is always the option to join the empire. Which is kind of annoying because I'm not really a fan of non-fluffy allied combinations. Such as Tau player taking Orks just because they need troops ect.

I also don't like how Tau seemed to be the default "take as allies for some XV88s" and now it's gonna get worse with them getting skyfire. I hope that we see more full Tau armies and not just other armies with Tau allies because they needed to fill a hole in their list.

Just so you guys know, they put the iOS codexes up for 'pre-order' on the itunes bookstore a week before you can actually download them. So it isn't broken and you can't actually purchase or download the codex until next week when everything actually goes on sale.

If you click on the Tau Codex selection in the itunes bookstore it tells you the actual date it will go on sale (April 6th).

So no getting a look at the codex early through iOS, sadly.
