BOOOO!!!
My exciting plans to use 2 units of them are circling the drain... They better have shrouded or stealth or cost WAY less.
They've got special weapons options, markerlights, (probably defensive grenades), unique drone options and no longer require a Devilfish., they may be one or two points less, but I highly doubt they'll be "WAY" less.
In general, paying points for access to options that you might not use isn't a very good deal.

Not a bad idea, but if I'm paying for infiltration or whatever mobility bonus they get, as well as long range support weapons, I'd rather they not simply serve on the firing line, ya know?

Access to exclusive wargear is not the problem. They always had that. Survivability is the problem. PFs are the same as FWs, only they have markerlights. That's why they were 12 pts compared to the FWs 10 pts.
Only now, where FWs get a 50% chance of surviving small arms fire, PFs have 0% chance... But they have a markerlight. I think they should now cost less than FWs. 6 pts maybe?
I mean it's no secret that their stats are awful. Tau infantry has always been that way, but they had an armor save vs. small arms fire, which is impressive for a non-MEQ army.
Take away that save and you just have infantry with horrible stats. 6 pts seems pretty fair.
A cover-boosting Drone option could redeem them, but simply having the OPTION should not raise the cost of the infantry. That's what the cost of the upgrade itself represents.

It's better then past issues, but still suffers the same problems. The big difference is this weeks battle report has some actual effort in it, and Jeremy Vetock wrote an article that actually made me laugh a bit (the one about "curses in wargaming").
It's a shame that Jervis and Jeremy seem like cool guys and entusiastic wargamers, but GW execs keeps fething everything over.

Ordered the riptide and XV88 from Dark Sphere. I'm always impressed with them. Was getting ready to break my embargo on Wayland for 30% off when I checked Dark Sphere and found they were only £3.39 more expensive at their usual, always-going-to-be-there prices.
I'll be off to Salisbury next Saturday (my nearest GW) to pick up my codex. By this time next weekend I hope to have most of a Battlescribe catalogue authored..
Before then: Paint my IG infantry, colour scheme test a bunch of FW and Stealth suits, get more excited for a hopefully more flexible Tau that wont be relegated to a 6th edition mercenary force.

Dream on man, 6 pts for infiltrating infantry with awesome support weapons and drones and st5 weaponry stock.... that would be rather idiotic. It's not like you wouldn't put these guys in terrain as standard practice anyways so they will usually have at least a 5++ or a 4++ if you go to ground. I thought it was stupid that the lighter armored pathfinders had a similar save to FW before, this makes much more sense. I'll agree that they should go down to between 8-10 pints but 6 would be ridiculous.
Besides why has no one learned to wait for the fething codex in hand, if they could have stealth and move through cover....or they could suck so people will field sunsharks rather then use a model that's been out for 12 years lol.

Actually, there is a lot more official fluff than these 2 sentences, and a whole Codex before that Codex (plus BFG rules, BL novels). And these 2 sentences are the only instance trying to make a 180 degree fluff change from what the original designers intended. It's like Codex Grey Knight with 2 sentences showing them making a Khorne Blood ritual or Ordo Xenos hiring Jokaeroes as weaponsmiths: Some veterans ignore stupid stuff added just to appease customers who want everyone in the 40k universe to be psychotic rabid mass murderers. But all that is off topic here and has been discussed to death in Tau threads. We will see what this COdex comes up with.

1. We don't know that.
2. 48 inches plus 12 inches deployment plus 12 inches movement means you could still shoot nearly anywhere on the table on move 1.
3. LoS obstacles can stop shooting however long range the weapon might be.

I almost ended this post by saying "But I'm not gonna stress until I see the actual codex."
But I decided to refrain from stating the obvious to see who was cliche enough to get all wound up about me having a concern before the codex is out...
Like I said, it may be a justified change, redeemed by other means.
Edit: So I'm not going to stress before the Codex is out.*
(*for those who don't understand that this goes without saying.)

I've always liked the Tau, but the price point of the new stuff is a strong disincentive to actually use them.
The pathfinders look like good value, and the reboxed crisis suits are fine (and probably immune to the annual price increase, being "new"), but the rest, dear god.
I don't buy the Hammerhead/Skyray kit being 60, when the Leman Russ already includes the bits for three/four variants, depending on which box you get, and is $50, Farsight is frightfully priced for a finecast customized crisis suit, same for the generic commander, and the Riptide, oh my. When we already have the dreadknight (awful aesthetic aside) with a ton of weapon options and detail, at the same general size, why is the Riptide $30 more?
There really isn't any draw for me with the new release, not even as an allied force that wouldn't just be firewarriors, crisis suits and the cheapest commander I can find.
It also seems odd in comparison to the Daemon release, which for the most part, had pretty reasonable prices, and is further odd when the Pathfinders seem to be genuinely good value. I just don't get GW's pricing structure sometimes.
Also, one-click bundles continue to anger me, almost irrationally so. Every time I see them on GW's site, or even mentioned, I get angry, moreso than I have any reason to be. They just infuriate me enormously, and represent a corporate strategy without any apparent sense. But that's a discussion for another day.
Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Finally! It always bugged me that they had the same save as the Fire Warriors, who obviously are wearing much heavier armour. Why would FWs strap on all that extra gear if much lighter pathfinder armour would work just as fine?
I'm so anxious to know what Farsight does this time around, love the character and may start a new army (sold my Orky guard a few years ago), and would love to do renegade/survivor Tau + Kroot Hybrids with Farsight or so.

In the previous Codexes, Farsight didn't have access to Kroot or Vespid as he is not part of the Empire. Regardless, he is indeed a great direction for a Tau army. I wonder if he'll be prohibited from using Ork allies as they have been his main foe.
