Without revealing too much, a rather reliable source I managed to get a hold of basically said three things, which I think a few have also mentioned before:
1) A couple of years ago, the master molds were worn and under review.
2) The models being bought didn't justify cost of remaking the molds.
3) Decision: Make enough to last a few years until stocks run out.
And nevertheless, thanks FW/ GW for actually saying something.

I consider myself very lucky to get them (assuming I do actually get them).
Update: Just got a shipping notice from GW for the AdMech Light Cruisers - amazing!
No updates for the other six previous backorders though.
Some of the CLs will be trade bait for capital ships that I am missing.
The instant shipping (meaning they were in stock at the US warehouse) supports Peregrine's post:
Peregrine wrote:
I called about my order and asked about that, and the items that came back into stock weren't new production, they were just the result of failed orders (credit card company rejected the transaction, etc) freeing up models that had been allocated to someone else.

Are they making a 2013 colour?

Oh I have alternativesalready, I just want at least 1 set of regular ' GW pattern' block dice. And I'm not bothered about tracking down older NAF dice, none of the colours match my Dark Elf team which is what I was waiting for, so I guess I'll just pick up some white ones when I can.
Although I'm not sure why the NAF really need GW's permission to make dice... the designs on the faces are all generic arrows, 'explosions' and skulls, hardly GW trademarks (although we all know what they're like...). I suppose the'yre trying to stay in GW's good books for now, for whatever good that will do them long term.
"As of 2013, we'll no longer be allowing fans of one of our games the oppotunity to obtain the dice needed to play, except by purchasing a £50 game. This is great news!"

I did randomly stumble across an interesting way to keep playing BFG, even if the ships cannot be had for decent prices. Firestorm Armada had their three starter fleets available as "flats" that were .JPEG images. You could print them out and play the game that way, to see if you liked it well enough to buy the minis. . Not as good as actual minis, but you still got to play the game.
But...check these out! With a little searching on Google Images, I found every fleet (except Tyranids) for BFG in this form! Throw them into Paint/Gimp for some quick editing to cut them all into individual tokens, and you can make flats for every ship you need to play BFG with, and then just print as many as you want. Just search for "Battlefleet Gothic Sprites" or "[race name] Sprites" in Google Images.

i got an email from FW today that basically states exactly that. Back when the elder first sold out I sent an email to them asking if they'd be coming back, I got a reply today that states the points you just presented, so I assume its a generic response.

I wondered if those fleet sprites were to play in Vassal. As far as I can tell, every fleet is represented except the Mechanicum and Tyranids (even Rogue Trader cruisers and escorts are available). It's not as "cool" to play with flats instead of miniatures, I'll give you that, but I plan on making several fleets of them.

Glad I kept my Eldar fleet now.
BFG is the best game GW ever produced. I think it is a real pity that they have left it to found and then cut it off due to 'lack of interest'.
I'm sure they could have farmed out the licences to other companies.

Agreed. It was the one game that I never grew tired of, and was always willing to play at any time. Each game was different, even changing out just one ship could change my battleplan drastically. I loved that you always had to plan ahead for the next few turns to predict where your ships will be and where your opponent will go. 40K seems to lack that element.
I think it is a real pity that they have left it to found and then cut it off due to 'lack of interest'.
Sadly, it was GW's lack of interest that killed it. More and more I'm starting to believe in the theory that GW doesn't really want to make lots of money, but instead just wants a stable revenue stream without any spikes or dips so they can look good for the investors.
Anyway, I just noticed a Blackstone Fortress up on Ebay for over $100 now (that's with bids). I wonder how much I could get for my Ramilies?
Not that I would ever part with my Ramilies. It was my very first Forgeworld model ever. Ordered it years ago because it was awesome.

I heard from a mate (not a clue who his source is, take it with a fistful of salt) that forgeworld where looking to pick up the BFG rights.
I saw a rumour on here somewhere that the upcoming Turos campaign second edition would still have BFG stuff in it which would lend some credibility to it but then all the FW stuff for BFG has been taken down or is out of stock so it seems unlikely.

Recently I remember then the orginal 40k radio did a interview with a former GW game designer (Can't rememebr witch one) and the topic of new armies for 40k came up.
I remember he said that GW they have a sort of set fan base, with a set amount of spending money. All adding a new army does is pull sales away from other armies. They also apparently feel this way across all of their games.
As silly as it sounds, GW probably really does believe doing this is going to increase their 40k and fantasy sales.

I saw that, and was frankly livid. My group was interested in doing BFG, two of them had the beginnings of fleets, and then splat, done, gone.
I'm glad I have the models, they look great (Metal apocalypse class was a bit infuriating to build, but it looks good done), and there's one fellow with a BFG Chaos fleet he's in the process of moving here from Saskatchewan (fear Canadian province names!), so I'll have one fellow to have decent sized games again, but otherwise, that's all she wrote.
