In your opinion, what is the best flyer in Warhammer 40k?

This one again? well Point wise i'll stick with the

1# Imperial guard flyers because... 3x TL las?

2# The helldrake because of it's flamer of roasted cheese.

3# the ork Dakkajet because of it's awesome amount of shots being BS3 and TL'd.

Scythe, Vendetta, Helldrake. Accept no substitutes, well besides nightwings.

Not including Forge World (because I'm unfamiliar with it), I'd say the Night Scythe thanks to it being absurdly cheap, having good weapons, and being a transport with some cheesy rules. 6th editon is all about objectives and the Night Scythe is one of the best units in the game in regards to a unit designed to both be a threat and capture objectives.

I have a peanut allergy. It's really inconsiderate.

Helldrake because it breaks the game.

Vendetta and night scythe are excellent too.

I'll say vendetta because (as far as I know) it's the most capable of destroying the opponents most powerful unit AND is the cheapest.

I love me some Flyrants, but that costs 260 points, requires you to roll Iron Arm on one of your 2 rolls on Biomancy, requires another psyker to cast Catalyst/Endurance on it, then requires a 3 on the D3 roll for Iron Arm, for the same cost an IG player can take 2 Vendettas and for slightly more a Necron player can have 2 Night Scythes with units of 5 Warriors inside, and neither of which rely on psychic support. There really isn't much of a contest.

Vulture gunship, with twin-linked punisher cannons. Kills infantry of all types, auto-kills most vehicles, and laughs at the normal movement restrictions. And it's just so much more fun than the Vendetta.

While not quite as broken as Peregrine likes to think, the Punisher Vulture is completely awesome. Think a 155 point Valkyrie with no transport, but Vector Dancer, a heavy bolter and a twin-linked punisher cannon. Oh, and until last week they were a Heavy Support choice.

I like mine and it's decent. It's middle of the road, as Space Marines should be and traditionally are.

The Heldrake is really damn good, and I'd tie it with Vendetta for the best aircraft in the game. It's a little more versatile, but the Vendetta is stupidly good at taking out other aircraft, which is the only reason I've ever run one. The new Eldar fighter seems like a really good air-to-air combatant too, and can probably tank hunt as well as a Vendetta.

Honestly, they're all pretty good except for the DA ones, which are mediocre at best.

They've been fast attack for years for codex IG, the recent change was only in the Elysian drop troops list which had them as heavy instead of fast.

Also, they're not overpowered, just very good.

The Stormraven.

3 Str8 AP1 shots(One melta/Twinlinked) and either 1 S9 AP2 TL Shot, or 4 S6 rending TL shots for the first two times you fire it.
and 1 TL/Melta and 1 TL Las or Assault cannon after that, and it can take a Blood Angel Librarian with Terminator armor/SS and Prescience along with 5 TH/SS termies, and a dual Blood Talon Dreadnought with it.

That is the best flyer.

That's why he specified "one melta/TL". Three S8 AP1 shots is the TL MM and two missiles.

That's less a flier and more a small spaceship hanging around the troposphere.
