I've been working on my modular Cityfighting-Board since 2 years and so far it has risen to a 4x4 segments table. Sadly there hasn't been a lot of time during the last year for the hobby, but now I am through my exams, still have a week until my job begins and I am dying to get my hands on this project again.

The City of Corynthal looks like an imperial suburb so far, but in my dreams and sketches I see it as a hive city!!!
So the coming week will be dedicated to my board again and the very next part to be build is a river. I want 4 segments to divide a future 4x6 board. I already ordererd a hot-wire-foam-board cutter, a toy i wanted to have for a long time, and the moment i lay my hands on it, I will not rest until at least my river is reality!!!

This shall be my oath of moment and I ask you to be my witnesses.

[Thumb - Corytnthal - Sketch2.png]
Sketch of the plans I have for Corynthal in the future.

[Thumb - Corytnthal - Sketch3.png]
I hope to build the platforms and steps right after the river is done.

[Thumb - River.png]
That's how my current project should look like.

[Thumb - River - Sketch2.png]
And these a futuristic dreams of combinig river, platforms and bridges.

[Thumb - Cities of death - Imperial City 2.jpg]
And this is the current state of Corynthal - more in my Gallery

Finally...
supplies arrived and i got a lot of material from the local hardware store.
I am so looking forward to heat on the wire of my new foam-board-cutter.

But

I'm not sure yet about the rivers depth. Please help me and tell me what you think.

2 cm deep or 3 cm deep?

One option would be easier to build, but i don't want to influence you...

If you have the room, make the rivers 3cm deep. Bigger is always better

@SilverMK2 Well, well, who might have told you

I went for 3 cm and hope i won't regret it. But at some point you have to stop planning and start buildung.
So i cutted the slope of the 4 river segments. Took some time to get used to the hot-wire-cutter and to prudoce proper cuts, but now im pretty satisfied.

Also did the template for the facing.

Weather is nice and hot, so i will spend some hours outside...but there's more to come

Forgot to upload pictures, but there was progress yesterday.
The parts are not yet fixed to the board, but all is ready for this now.
Only thing i want to do, before i start painting, is some detail-work. I would like to have some drainpipes sticking out for exaple.

Changed the design of the ramps...i want them functional, because chimeras are amphibic!

For detailing i created a couple of drain pipes.
I also went through my bitz box: The ladders and a barrel floating on the water fit pretty well i think. Time for glue!

Fantastic work, I have to ask where you got the foam cutter? I have been curious about those for some time.

Looking forward to seeing this project come together!

I'm quite satisfied with it. You need some practice, but i think the parts came out well. And i don't wanna miss it, now i worked with it.

The river is done and ready for paint!

Amazing work. If I had the time, money, and space I would have to join this adventure in scenery/board/terrain building. I'm definitely keeping my eye on this thread.

Thanks a lot for your nice comments!

I'm almost done with the painting. Only the water needs some more colour. Yesterday when the first layer of paint was still wet, it looked very good, but now the colour is dry and pale. So I will add more layers of dark green and finally will add gloss and structure with an acryl-gel. Already tested that and i hope it will come out nice.

I'm using it for building only, to be honest.
I never played one game on this board. None of my friends is into tabletop. I often tried to drag them into the hobby, but failed. So the board is still a virgin, you could say.
But i think it would fit quite well for smaller skirmish games as well like Necromunda (or maybe an rumored Inqisitor-game).

This is very, very sad. Fire your friends, hire new ones.

This is some amazing work. It'd also be great for Warmachine or Hordes. They work well on boards like this.

Who this is a great board. Some really clever ideas employed here. Id love if you talked a little about the road construction. Pity you have no one to play on it with.

Also what did you use for the sidewalk tiles? Is it a card plastic cut into squares or masonry tiles for bathrooms and such?

Thanks alot!
The sidewalks are made from plasticcard. 3mm foam board underneath 2 mm cutted plastic card sqares. I wouldn't recommend it. It's alot of effort and you can get pretty good results by unly unsing foam board: Just have a look at the tiles at the sides of the river.
The color of the streets is from heki. You paint it and then sand it so it gets structure.

I'm done with the river.
I could add more layers of acryl-gel to get more depth, but i will leave it for now.
Because all the ohter stuff is deposited at the basement, i can only show you streets and rivers. Sorry for that!

Can you expand on your board philosophy a bit? specifically what dimensions are the different sections (1ft x 1ft), and what did you use for the underlying structure, plywood?

Also how does it all fit together, are the buildings and streets completely modular so that building line up with sidewalks? If so great job, 'Ive been trying to figure out a good way to make that looks good for a while but it hasn't looked as good as your setup!
