The community is a great place to come for tactics advice, and there is a lot of very sound opinions and idea out there, but at the end of the day, play the game how you want to... Don't worry about the hordes of Dakka descending on your gaming club to arrest you for taking one heldrake or not using a screamerstar. Knowing the standard opinion (and that's all it is) on what is good/bad and conforming to that opinion religiously are two entirely separate things. |

Don't start with your Dark Eldar infantry in transportrs: they'll all die when it blows.
Don't start with them on the board either. They'll get shot to death with no save by everything above a grot shoota.
So in retrospect, don't field Dark Eldar, period.

Mobility is king. Get to the enemies line in as good an order as you can so as to present too many choices for them to deal with all at once. Use things like spawn and small deep striking squads to silence and tie up annoying stuff. I tend to infiltrate units of nurgle spawn as close as I can to units I don't like and get tucked into them as fast as possible. This often means things like broadsides only get 1 turn to fire before they are either dead or tied up forever. Don't rely on your flyers. I don't focus on AA as I have shot down so many flyers with infantry I don't bother spending points on special AA units. I also expect my flyer to get shot down every game. He never has but that's a helldrake for you. Cover is your friend even against tau. Sure he can take it away but that means he's not making his stuff more accurate. When in doubt avoid the heavy hitters until you have killed the support units. REMEMBER THE BLOODY OBJECTIVE. I have seen way to many people become obsessed with killing my oblits, mutilators, spawn, and drake to bother killing my marines camping the objectives.

Who said they do that? I certainly don't. Tau aren't just the gunline, shoot at everything that gets close army anymore. Your concept of 6th edition Tau is very different than mine.

Avoid following the meta. AV14 goes a long way in the Xenos heavy meta. All lists (in 6th edition) will have their weaknesses. Play to your playstyle, not what others bring. The meta will always change. You're playstyle doesn't have to. You can make any list work with the correct tactics.
It's not the list, it's you.

Yeah, it's why I refuse to play against the Tau people in my area any more. It's always, "Stay in corner with Skyshield, never leave, always shoot." It's just a less than fun army to go against as CSM, really.

Gunlines - so much fun to disrupt.
Look at them like fliers: Do you bring an ADL? If so, and no flie shows up - you still have a decent gun and decent cover. Not really a waste.
Bring infiltrators, or deep strikers, or something else that can eat up ground quicker than your opponent expects. If no gun line shows up - you still have some fun units that can play havoc with your opponent's battle plan. Or grab objectives suddenly. Or assassinate something important...

I have to disagree. Its more like 100% tactics +/- 50% due to probability.
A good player will wind more often and more consistently, but there are no guarantees.
How could a game be 150% tactics?
because it is a strategery game

Don't take low armor vehicles, even eldar war walkers are overrated. Their "mobility" doesn't make up for the fact that they will die to almost every gun ever.
Shooting and psykers are king. Look to the new SM codex for a bonkers librarian and ally with him.
Some assault units are ok, but shooting for it's traditional reasons are king.
With all that said play the game your way, if you like khorne berserkers, berserk away.

Not sure I agree. At least, I consider light Transports to be things like Rhinos and Wave Serpents.
The former is necessary to protect marines that die very easily now, and the latter essentially forces you to HP it to death AFTER you get through its 4+ cover.
I agree with first blood being important, but there are a lot of games I've had where it was irrelevant OR I simply get first blood before my opponent.
Depending on who you are playing against, Transport or not, they are going to get first blood regardless.
