Mighty fine looking marines Dr H, the blue and yellow go great together.

Makes me want to pick up some Primaris marines but I worry that it will make my hundreds of other ones look silly by comparison

The finished squad looks great! Love the look of the yellow armour. I liked both the toned down red and the red you initially did, not sure which I prefer.

+1 for thinking things through, though I'll agree it tends to cost time to get things right. Excellent finishing touches!

The yellow really is the star of the model, but toning down the red really helped the final fit together.

The squad of hellblasters came out really tight, Doc. The bases are simple yet effective. The olive belts/pouches help break up the yellow really well.

Top notch squad!

Seriously nice work. You selling these or keeping them?

Thanks CCain. The yellow needed to be of an orange base to match the bright blue I wanted to use to keep them as complimentary as possible (actually a triad with the red).
I can't tell you how to run your army (literally. I have very little idea of how the game plays), but they'd be good as an elite squad of troops (rather than an actual elite slot... unless the Hellblasters are elite... I don't know).
Make the most of how much they'll stand out by painting them bold, like these.

Thanks Tyranid horde, and welcome to my corner of DDakka (I think, it's beyond the point where I remember who I've seen before or not, and having 2 blogs doesn't help )
As I said, I did intend for the red to be muted as they ended up, the initial red was much closer to my usual red-gun red. I liked the red, as itself, but one of the three colours needed to be darker (a good way to avoid the Christmas feel of a red / green scheme too).

Thanks CK. I'd rather be right than quick, it's a shame the world we live in thinks differently.

Thanks Theo'. This is why the community is great. Helps to reality check ideas.

Thanks Snrub. Especially for selling, simple bases are best, more likely to fit with any army. Yep, those things are perfectly positioned to break up the main scheme.

Thanks Red'. Bananananana...na na not Graven's thread.

Thanks MT.

Thanks Cam'.
Yep, sellin'. just got the listing done Go buy them here now now now

And in the mean time, the next project begins on the modelling desk: Inceptors (because that's not confusing with Intercessors about the place is it...)

First thing first. Those flight stands... no, just no.

So I need to tweak some things to get their poses right for more solid base attachment methods.

The first chap is minimally changed, but will be mounted in a lunging direction.
A move of the arms, tilt the head back and pin the right foot and you have this:

Oh yeah, and move a couple of the flaps on the backpack.

He's not glued to the base, he'll need raising up to a more expected height. The actual bases are tbd...

Number 2 is still currently under surgery.
I'm aiming for a pre-3 point landing pose, so one leg has been straightened and the other bent.
There's not a huge amount of play in the knees really, this is about as extreme as you can go.
Vanilla on left, modified on right.

and the current state at the bottom there, filling gaps with bits of plastic.

That should keep you going for a bit.

Notice the filled gaps from the plastic above, with added putty for the final touches.

Imagine him crashing down through something.

The bases are going to have to do the "heavy lifting" when it comes to making these chaps stand out from the crowd.

Not fond of those models as marines, but see potential in turning them into some generic sci-fi jump troopers

Nevertheless, interested to see what you do with them....

Been lurking for a little bit, decided to comment on the finished pieces! I don't know how easy it would be, but you could try a crater effect of inceptor number 2 landing into the dirt or go for a cracked tile look with shards pointing out from the impact site. I do see you mentioned simple bases fit better into any army but it might be cool!

I like the re-poses Doc, and agree the flight stands are garbage, however I think you need to base them on some urban ruins or something, as if they were skimming along and occasionally pushing off something larger ?

Like the yellow marines too, but not the red weapon casing, would have used black myself. That said it's top notch work, I like your stuff a lot !

Thanks MT. I will hopefully make them look cool nonetheless.

Thanks Tyranid horde. I'm going to try and keep these at the same height as would be expected if they were on their stands (to avoid any "modelling for advantage" talk).
These will be the exception to the "simple base" rule.

Thanks Big H. Yeah, was thinking of some kind of "tactical terrain" that these will lug about the table during play, and making that something that can be in the process of being destroyed.
Ta. Each to his own.

And the third is together.
Had to move one of his hoses as it clashed with the backpack. I can see him crashing through a wall of some kind...

So yes, significant basing to be added, action orientated, keeping them at their "stock" heights.

What are your thoughts on ease of conversion for the Inceptors, Doc?

I really dislike the models as standard, but i'm pretty sure it just comes down to those weird ass pogo shoes the have on and the silly totally-not-heavybolters-we-swear.

Thanks Graven'.Hello boys, glad you are enjoying my work.

Hi Snrub. They're ok.
For minor changes, like I have done here, it's pretty easy:
The shoulders can be rotated about their axis with just a cut of the pegs,
You could potentially change the angle at the shoulder by shaving off the contact face on the arm (I didn't, the arms here are just rotated).

The elbows are only more complicated than any other marine arm by the addition of the cable; that can be bent for minor changes or replaced with GS.

The guns would be pretty easy to replace.

And the pogo skids look to be easy to remove, just a saw across the bottom of the foot and shave away the pistons at the side of the foot.

The hips would be a challenge to alter greatly, as with all these single-pose models. But I did re-pose the left hip of the 2nd chap by sawing into the inside of the leg and up under the armour plate at the hip and bending the leg inwards. Remove the material right and there's minimal filling needed.

The knees are fairly easy as the lower leg comes separate from the thigh. You will need to remove a fair amount of material and fill quite large gaps to do big changes in angle (the hinge is on the thigh piece and the knee needs to rotate about that; no cutting it flat to get a good join). And then there's the cable again that will need cutting/bending or replacing.

And now for something completely different...
Spoiler:

But more seriously, It's that time of the year again.

Had a look through the box of train terrain and this lump of plastic grabbed me.

The grey plastic walls have been left unpainted except for some weathering (including soot stains above the doors), and the interior appears to have been painted after the roof had been stuck on (as you will see below).

First job was to remove some of the excess glue areas, and disassemble to a point where painting would be easier.
Then I've added some extra details to fill up the interior a bit,
Re-glued the windows in and added some extra plastic strips to hold them in more firmly,
Stuck it on the base; a piece of thin card that will make it easier to incorporate the finished piece into a full layout should that happen at some point.
And added the track.

And now to take it to the next level and add some vegetation, re-assemble, and (leaving the roof off) paint to my usual level of detail.

Ready to paint.
The roof is not attached, will be firmly attached once the inside is painted.
The roof for the outside bit (English failing me) is glued to the roof.
The gutters are glued to the walls.

We'll have to see once paint gets thrown around...

In the mean time (while I wait for some paint to turn up), the first of the Inceptors (who is actually the second of the Inceptors) has the start of his base.

I have a block of resin, right in the middle, that he's pinned into (first photo),
Then I used one of my boxes and cut up the sides and arranged them about the top piece to create a squashed box.
Gaps to be filled with straw (plastic shavings saved from the sprue hut build).

The last photo there shows his height compared to one of the stands that should come up to the middle of his back (where it would "attach" to the bottom of the backpack).

2 more to do...

Thanks T'Horde. Ja, dynamic basing for all. If only just to get them all at about the right height to compare with the basic flight stands. But not all boxes...

Thanks Graven'. This can be achieved by any modeller with common modelling tools with my box kits (still available in my Etsy shop ) Moulding and casting this shape would be very tricky.

Indeed. I see no problem here. Although, as an atheist, I don't believe in dog... or anything with more than 2 legs...

Thanks CK. It is the point of these chaps, is it not?

As I said, the third Inceptor up next.
And I got a bit carried away with building his destructo-feature-base... I mean, how else are you supposed to make a wall if you don't use individual bricks???

Some are made from plaster (to give him a solid base to be pinned to), but most of the less structural bricks are foamcore, minus paper, plus some plaster.
And then some thin plaster, broken up for the ... plastering.
And some tissue/PVA for insulation.

I'm thinking a fence for the last (first) chap.

In other news; the Junkube is on it's way to it's new owner. I wasn't entirely sure that anyone would actually buy that, and it's gone before many other things.
