I'm 90% of the way through and have to concur

Most enjoyable.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

Given the end game, an interesting book from a GC persepctive sounds...challenging!

Good to hear they've pulled it off!

Ooooh, check it out: our first Warhammer Age of Sigmar book since the Season of War and the founding of the new Free Cities, from author Nick Horth.

Set in one such metropolis, and starring plucky humans rather than immortal Stormcasts, we're excited to see the Mortal Realms in a new era and from a new perspective.

This book is out soon.

It's available in hardback right now for $20 via GW themselves. Didn't know if you spotted that or not, as Black Library prefers to show off the eBook format on their site.

I'm actually a fan of these "Legends of the Dark Millenium" collections. I got the Astra Militarum one and really enjoyed it, as it was a bunch of short stories that were previously digital(as far as I know) only that I did not have, along with a new "arc" about Creed in the build-up to the 13th Black Crusade.

And for the size of the books, $20 isn't too bad. It could certainly be cheaper but I didn't feel disappointed by the content(since for me it was all new)

Copy and pasted from the AOS news thread. Everyone in twitch chat is now excited for this book when they were describing this is the best I can remember from the interview.

Yeah so he explains further that a free guild captain see's something he should not have seen and only the witch hunter and his companion who is a duardin is helping him. He goes on to explain this book will see how normal people view all the craziness but on the ground level things are still similar yet not. Like there is a shard of the world that was in the sea next to the city that is mined as currency to be used to glimpse in the future.

Also the scourge privateers(corsairs) control the docks and they are not nice people going by Nick's description of them twitch chat called them pretty much Aelven mafia well they sound like it. The witch hunter is from the order of ayzr created by sigmar to destroy corruption in the new cities but they are stretched to the absolute limit with all the new people coming into the cities.

They also look at the divide between those who came from ayzr who are taking all the important jobs and the tribes nomands and people who survived the age of chaos coming into the cities it seems they live in the more slum like area. Also many of the people of ayzr view these people coming in corrupted by chaos because they wonder how they survived with the age of chaos hanging over them.

Also we get to see how a normal human views a stormcast of course some are heroic and mingle with the populace but the ones in the city are the knight excelsior who hate everything to do with chaos and of course if they get a hint they will carry out a purge and purges happened in the past. Hence why the witch hunter's job is so important.

One last thing sigmar's hope was to have all three main races living in the cities together of course certain armies are separate and doing their own thing(like slyvaneth and fyreslayers) even if they are allies but largely the cities are a mixed population perhaps with one main group. Like the city on the novel is mainly a free guild city while let's say the one in the realm of life has a larger aelf population since it was mainly built by the phoenix temple. I quite like this since it makes it dynamic and twitch chat agreed.

I appreciate the info, but yeah, I did notice. For me, $20 is too much for any one novel*, and I've had to take the same hard line on hardcover books that I've had to take on metal miniatures. I have thousands and thousands of books covering 5 bookshelves, the overhead storage in the garage, and filling another dozen or so Home Depot boxes. I'd love to get all the latest books when they come out, but I can barely justify buying a MMPB at MSRP to my wife these days, let alone a hardcover. Space is even more of an issue than price.

*I can justify certain purchases, like the Mantic Adventure Books, with the compelling argument that she'll never find out about them.

I can totally relate to the space and price issue. Not so much the wife bit.

All I can really say is that these tend to be a fairly good value, and if one comes out relating to an army you enjoy? They're worth looking into, even if just to set up a "watch list" for them to come out in MMPB.

I bought mine a few weeks back, but mostly because I thought it would look nice next to my high level painted Magnus, and CE Wrath of Magnus.

Blood Angels, Custodes, Tzeentch, Alpha Legion, Astra Militarum, Deathwatch, Thousand Sons, Imperial Knights, Tau, Genestealer Cult.

I have a problem.

Being contrary for the sake of being contrary doesn't make you unique, it makes you annoying.

Is the Primarch series a better insight into these demi-gods than reading most of the HH novels? Seems obvious but is each just one central story for each Primarch or does it cover origins and such aswell?

Since there are rumours of Guilliman returning, I was in Waterstones to pick up a book for a journey and spotted his Primarch book but opted for a short story collection as I wasn't sure if it would be worth it.

Would it be better to get some HH novels covering Guilliman or does this Primarch book go a lot deeper into finding more info about him? The only HH novel I have read so far is First Heretic and thought Guilliman was stuck up so I would love to read a bit more about him if he really is gonna be the first loyalist Primarch to return.

Know No Fear has a lot of Guilliman. I was on the anti Smurf bandwagon with everyone else, but this book made me a fan of both. I liked him in Unremembered Empire as well but that one requires previous HH reading.

Cheers for that, yeah I'd rather work my way through in order first, don't like mixing it up, which is funny cas I read First Heretic first since I thought that was well......the first novel.

It was the first one on the shelf in Waterstones so thought that was it, plus it was by Aaron so pretty much a guaranteed buy. Was quite confused tbh why the beginning sort of jumped straight into the Heresy and I was thinking...huh, this feels weird.

I really liked the portrayal of the Word Bearers, as a die hard Imperium fan, it did well to make you cast those initial doubts about the Emperor, how he seemed to bury his head in the sand about his actions being seen as that of a god, so I think I'll be rooting for them in Know no Fear, wanted Lorgar to slap Guilliman right in his perfect face.

Fatespinner

A Space Wolves story

Rune Priest Thorskir has hunted his prey – sorcerers of the Accursed Thousand Sons – across the galaxy, and finally they are in his grasp. Or so it seems…

READ IT BECAUSE

It's a dark and twisted tale playing on the enmity between the Space Wolves and Thousand Sons, and the weirdness of anything touched by Tzeentch.

THE STORY
In the underhive depths of Rigo V, the Sorcerers Ramon and Phaelius of the Thousand Sons seek proscribed knowledge. They are hunted, these witches, by the Rune Priest Thorskir who has tracked them across the length and breadth of the galaxy. At last after an arduous search, Thorskir has found where his prey will be and means to end them. But the plans of those allied to the Great Architect of Fate are not so easy to unbind and a secret lurks beneath Rigo V, one that has been long in the devising, a twist of fate and a plan so foul it is worthy of Tzeentch itself.

Written by Chris Wraight

originally in an event only anthology a few years back.

Games can be really hit and or miss. I hated space marine it just felt so unlike a 40k game or black library book it was like 40k trying to be something it's not. But I've enjoyed the battle fleet gothic I've got on my phone. It's hard to get a game to match up to the worlds described in BL books and in your head while you roll your dice!

Virtues of the Sons/Sins of the Father

A pair of Blood Angels audio dramas from the Horus Heresy explore Amit and Azkaellon, Sanguinius' closest sons, as they explore their natures through brutal combat, with each other and champions of other Legions.

LISTEN TO IT BECAUSE
For the first time, these two pulse-pounding tales are told back-to-back as audio dramas, each of them providing new insights into Azkaellon and Amit, and through them the Blood Angels Legion and their angelic primarch.

DESCRIPTION
For more than two hundred years, the armies of the Emperor of Mankind fought to reconquer the galaxy - led by the superhuman primarchs, the Space Marine Legions brought countless worlds back under the rule of ancient Terra. Now Horus, once honoured Warmaster and favoured son of the Emperor, has been corrupted by the whispered promises of Chaos. At his command the Imperium is torn apart by a terrible and bloody civil war, the likes of which the galaxy has never seen...

Many and varied are the ancient traditions of Baal Secundus, home world of the IXth Legion, and foremost among these traditions is the Tempest of Angels. Intended to demonstrate skill in attack or defence, in recent times this symbolic duel has been used by the primarch Sanguinius to test his most loyal sons. Now, with the galaxy descending into madness and civil war, he must urge Azkaellon and Amit to put aside their rivalry and learn the lessons of both the past and shadowed future alike.

CONTENTS
Virtues of the Sons by Andy Smillie - running time 37 minutes; performed by Toby Longworth, Jonathan Keeble, Steve Conlln
