I think you'll have a good answer in three weeks. If you want stuff, you'll know by then how many man-dollies you'll be getting and how much you'll need to spend to get the add-ons. I don't remember if they said they'll be posting the updated rules, but, if they do, you might be able to play a game with them.

Did your players refuse to kill any of the kobolds or dragons because they were reptiles?
First time I tried playing the game, my son got all pissed we were slaughtering all the lizards. Daughter gleefully stepped in to purposefully kill everything that he likes, resulting in tears, laughter, and naturally a fist fight.
Just like just about every other game that makes it to the table in my house!
At the bare minimum my kids love getting the figures out and just playing with them, so it isn't a total wash.
I look forward to putting my Consul days behind me and getting to use the heroes for once.

The hardest thing about SDE is board gamers dislike Dungeon master-style games. And if I am playing with 4 casual people, I *HAVE* to be consul... And chances are I could boardwipe them easily as they are new so I have to pull my punches.
The rules also have been loose and a little heavy for board gaming.
I think everyone being equal and being a hero will help a lot so you don't have to 'pull punches' to teach people how to play.

That's what I hated about Descent (and still do). I feel like I'm always pulling punches, since the other guys are "heroes" and they are supposed to win (supposedly). With Myth coming today, Kingdom Death, and now a coop SDE, I don't think I've got much use for Descent (although they are supposed to be playtesting that new coop version as well...)
Equal footing will definitely help. My kids know I'm a stickler for nasty AI (as evidenced by all of our Galaxy Defenders gangbang failure sessions).
This has been a fun one so far to see what's coming.
I don't mind if we get a few more palette swaps from the expansions as freebies either. Especially if they've got new rules.
I'm going to go off and order me some minibosses today!

I'll wait til the end, to see if it is a "can't pass up deal". But I'm slightly disenchanted with SPM at the moment. I've heard too many comments on how the other SDE from RK turned out looking. I also don't know how they managed to turn out all these completed pieces while they were supposed to be churning out completed pieces for RK and RRT. So, from my limited viewpoint (and YES, I get that digital sculptors work on other things when they are finished with their other work), it seems that they CHOSE to work on "their own" stuff, rather than the contracted stuff of RK and RRT. So I basically feel that they bold face lied in those KSs by saying that the sculpts were 98% done.
Also, I am in the same boat as others here, that having to play the Consul is neither fun nor pleasurable. I hope their co-op rules are good.
On the other hand, and again, YES, I know they are at GAMA, but surely you can have someone churn out some updates, since you chose to start your KS while you were away. But it really doesn't surprise me that they aren't giving it much attention.

I guess I can shut up about getting some sort of reptile hero now. At least they've acknowledged that there's an interest in having one (and I'm not the only one dammit!).
I have fond memories of playing Capcom's Magic Sword in Hawaii in the early 90s with a bunch of Japanese kids, and them showing me how to find the secret Lizardman helper, who totally kicked ass with him hurling magic swords at the enemy. That guy cemented a longstanding belief that lizard and reptile heroes are way better than any puny human could ever possibly be, oversized weapons and all.

Remember that they don't have any 'house' sculptors so it's all commission work
A sculptor who would design a good Mech would not necessarily be the one you'd choose to work on a Chibi figure, and good digital commission sculptors tend to be in high demand so may be free to do 1 or 2 minis for them, but then need months to work for another company before doing another one or two
so the SDE sculpting work may not intersect with the Relic Knights (where they did overstretch) or Robotech (where there are so many layers of approval involved I have no idea who's to blame for the issues) stuff

I'm kind of curious just what you mean by "their own stuff". Relic Knights is their product even if CMON has or hasn't had any influence there.
Or are you calling RK the black sheep and SDE the favored child?

I felt pretty burned by my original Super Dungeon Explore purchase. After spending hours putting together those God-awful designed miniatures the last thing I wanted to do was play SDE, and in the time since I've had it I've played it once and it did not go well. Some of that was our fault - we weren't totally up to speed with the rules - but nothing about the game was intuitive that first time around. I've wanted to go back to it since, but as the bad taste in my mouth from my initial impressions was so strong I've been wary of trying again. I really like the aesthetic, and I want to get back into it. I'm also a completionist, so I'd be getting everything. Also keep in mind that I backed out of the RK KS after pledging over $600 to that, and don't really feel like dealing with a year+ of delays again.
So, my question: Why should I back this?
Aside from the complete blank canvas in regard to shipping costs, SPM/ND's reputation for delivery is so bad that I just can't justify backing this at all.
Also, in literally 2 minutes of googling, I found three Aussie online stores that all stock and have stock of SDE, going for AU$140/$110/$99 with the expansions being from AU$63-77 each (stock more spotty there). But the supply issues that seem to be a concern for the UK peeps in this thread evidently aren't so for us.
We also don't know what Abbott and his mate Gerry Harvey are going to do with GST on imported goods, especially a year down the line when this is looking close to being delivered.
I don't see a compelling reason to back this, myself. Even the "non-exclusive exclusives" can be picked up down the line from their webstore for a little more. (minus 12 months interest)
Take another look in the last 24/48 and see how it looks then.

What did you hear about a reptile? I'd be pretty interested in such a character myself.
As an aside, the updating on this project has been shockingly bad. I get that they are now at a convention, but this is poor to the point of causing concern over basic competence.

GAMA is barely a convention in the traditional sense, aside from like 8 hours over two days there is no needing to be chained to an exhibitor booth. The show is more about retailers attending seminars put on by the big boys then anything else. and I'm fairly sure there was free wifi in the hall...

No, I think RK is their baby, as they were making the RK manga stuff before SDE ever made it to retail. It just makes you wonder where their priorities are, as they seemed/seem to be dragging RK out for unknown/unrevealed reasons, but they've got the entire core of this game digitally sculpted. Yes, there is probably different artists doing the RRT vs RK vs TFK, but they seem to not be able to focus on the completion of anyone project, which is frustrating.
I also get why they're KSing this now. They're literally out of money. RK is kicking the out of them. But this completely feels like a Wizard of Oz moment: "You can trust us! We're totally reliable! Just don't look behind that curtain at our crushing failures!!"

Haha, I agree, but see this as par for the course with the current SPM company. A lot of people have complained about poor/non-existant customer service. I think the RK updates and comments have been vague and threadbare. ND blows monkey .
So this being poorly thought out and updated isn't so surprising...

As the art for these looks new, I'm assuming (hoping) they'll have new models. The salt crystal guys were literally just the fire spawn point minions in green so I'd expect them to be the same.
Also, did anyone notice they updated the wolf rider from sketch to 3d model in the add-ons section?

Clear 'new slimes' are cool... Not blow my ass off cool, but cool.
Not sure if 1.25$ each cool...
They are addicted to paid add-ons... They are really slouching on the added-value to the 100$ core.
The completionist tally (if everything funds) is:
100$ Base
10$ Mage
10$ Twilight
15$ Wolf
15$ Slimes
Total: 150$
Anyone notice how the repainted hounds/gels are now part of the troll warband?

I'm sure we'll see even more add ons by the time all is said and done.
That also gives them more time to shower us with extra free bonuses.
With the way those salt crystal spawns added to the mistmourn stuff, I wonder if in the end we'll see more and more bundles of figures (to be sold as possible expansions down the line I would imagine).

Day 2 and it's nearing $150 already I figure there could be another 8 to 10 add ons if the every $50,000 pattern continues without them calling a halt to it which they might do at some point. $250 to $300 completionist maybe?
