Have a look at the High Grade Iron-Blooded Orphans series of Gundam kits (abbreviated as HGIBO). The gimmick for that range (in both 1:100 and 1:144 scales) is an articulated skeleton, and the 1:44 scale kits are much cheaper than RG or MG kits. See here for an example.

My order of these arrived today:

They're actually alright, they're going to be great as donor bodies or just parts/models here and there for scenery anyway.

Cannot complain at £7.83 with shipping also. Got to love aliexpress

The 'Not a Dreadnought' is in scale BTW. They're the only 2x I'll probably not use as they're too obviously not normal dreadnought models and will stick out even carved up on terrain.

Oh nice, where can we get these, what should I search for on Ali?

BTW, they're resin and I've had to do a bit of work to get some joints to fit, and one or two are a tiny bit warped but honestly, for the price and their intended use I am not fussed at all.

Honestly, I disdain people who buy clearly pirated toys from China. I can understand the desire to buy pirated versions of stuff that doesn't exist anymore and isn't produced by the property owner, like old GW or Rackham stuff that you just can't find on eBay, but buying stuff stolen from smaller producers like Dust Studios (which are currently in production!) is pretty low.

There is a reason that your artist friends can't make a decent living, and you are part of it.

Making a fairly huge assumption that I have any idea there is a miniature company called dust studios in existence, let alone me knowing they produced kits that this is a copy of.

I've just gone and looked anyway, I apologise, zero idea, the only fairly familiar model to me in there are the 'not dreadnoughts' which are basically useless to me anyway.

That is fair, you can't know everything that is out there. I totally understand the impulse to buy the stuff, they are very cool designs.

As a general rule, if it is coming out of China via Aliexpress, it is pirated.

If you aren't sure, you can ask here. Dakkadakka is kind of like a hive mind for all things miniature.

Noted.

However I'm not fully against Chinese replications, usually I use them before buying a legit model/kit for certain reasons, like testing a paint scheme or running through a modelling concept or, well, if I'm not fully using the model anyway, I only want a bit of it. Morally not the best, I get it, but also, I don't want to spend full retail price on something I'm just going to carve up, like the set above anyway, none of those models will look like they do now once I'm finished with them.

Getting hold of OOP models like you have said also is another reason, got some DKoK grenadiers on the way as I always wanted a squad to paint.

I've bought a couple packs of these. Didn't post them here because they're all either clones or recasts of 40k, Dust and AT43.

My cats look quite good and fit together well. Should be good power armor for my 25/28mm Mech games.

Can you be more specific about what the original models are? Obviously there's on the one based on a W40K Dreadnought but other than that I have no idea, when I looked at some of the Dust miniatures I couldn't find which they were.

The walkers with long arms are Russian power armor things. The chonkier little Mechs are from AT-43’s Red Blok, and so are the larger Mecha next to the dreads.

Just researching this too. Tall walkers are AT-43 Red Blok Molot, the two almost as big as the dreads with the missile racks are AT-43 Red Block Spetsnatz Kolossus (or a remix of them). Dunno about the long-armed suits - are those DUST? Is any of this DUST?

Yes. They seem to be based on DUST Soviet Steel Guard.

The figures mentioned line up with my observations as well.

The dreadnaught seems to be a copy sculpted from scratch. As it also has differences and no GW iconography, its probably the "safest" sculpt of the batch. There is a long line of legally defensible "not-40k" miniatures. I rather like it as it's almost what the 2nd edition Dread would look like in a RT aesthetic.

The two AT43 Red Blok models are straight recasts but are from a defunct game that we have been told the tooling for which is ruined. Not terribly problematic.

The Dust Steel Guard'ish are interesting in that they are mostly pirated recasts but they appear to have modified the front of the torsos in 3 ways to differentiate them somewhat.
In at least one case this is by adding an undeniable 40k imperial Eagle!
As Paulo is no stranger to business hardball, I'm surprised that these
figs at least have not been sued off the western market.

Is notable that AFAIK, (and with the exception of the dread) all these figs are probably Paulo Parente designs.

Not much online in terms of reviews, but this fellow...
https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235082450-joy-toy-land-of-the-lost-miniature-mecha/
...has done some interesting mods by recombining the parts in new ways and using some SM bits.

I bought 3 sets so I can make 5 man squads of like figures and in addition to my big Mech games I think at least one of the Dust variations will end up as a power armor squad in my K47 British army.

Maybe the not-dread would be a good match for my Squats...

1:53 scale is a little odd, but I think it is the size fit for Zombicide , at least I had been looking for vehicles that size to match my board. I may have to patent Jedicide the board game. Roger Roger

1:53 is about right for 28mm. it might even make a good basis for a 40k Titan.

Frankly all these scales make no sense and are probably 'what will fit in the box' scale more than anything.

I do think box scale is the explanation.
Honestly, if you leave the figure out of the cockpit, even a 1:88 Slave 1 might look good on the table. I've got a very undersized action figure slave 1 that looks great with 28mm. I'll get a pic. The 1:53 ATAT looks really cool.

Also, its probably been mentioned, but the newer Bandai SW kits are superb. I built the 1:48 ATST last week (pictures to come) with my son and his friend. It's more detailed than any of the earlier SW kits, yet it assembles flawlessly without glue as easy as an HG Gundam kit, albeit with more parts and no poly caps.

Unless you need 1:144 scale, I'd skip the rereleased X and B wings and get the newer Bandai 1:72 kits.

Here's the promised pictures.

Clone Wars Era Slave 1 vehicle for 3.75" action figures. It's smaller than the larger action figure version that was released in the 90's and possibly also later.

Technically still a bit smaller than true-scale, but probably better for the battlefield. Looks good to my eye and it even looks pretty good in the cockpit area.

Mine is missing one tail gun and the launchable hull missile, but nothing that couldn't be easily scratchbuilt/kitbashed up.

Here's the Bandai 1/48 ATAT.

$30 retail isn't bad but it's cheaper elsewhere and especially nice if you can get it at a Hobby Lobby 40% off!

Neat!

Reminds me of a product line back in the '80s sold under the Robotech brand name in the US. Each box had a small (non-transforming - the specific mode varied, iirc)) VF-1 in a very simple work bay (basically floor, ceiling, and four corner posts holding the ceiling up).

Edit - Here's the one for the VF-1S.

https://www.2ndchildhoodtoys.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/2019-01-10-19.18.03.jpg

There was also the earlier, much larger scale one that Revell released earlier in the line.

Pegasus Models seems to be OOP, or at least out of stock.

They had some great retro kits from 50s films as well as War of the Worlds and Galaxy Quest.
