At this point, I wish they had given IG a proper armoured car, intended as a fast, light combat unit, heavier than a Tauros and lighter than a Hellhound. Basically, similar to Sentinels in role, but faster and wheeled.

Instead, we get something that's half-APC-half-armoured-car, which just makes no sense.

Too true.

Someone at Lenton saw MRAPs and other vehicles developed for COIN operations and the like and added the usual excess.

Standard Guard get the Chimera - a decent troop carrier - utilitarian, armored, decent silhouette, half decent weapon.

The elite units of the guard (at the forefront of the fiercest fighting) now drive to the forefront of battle in an ornamented, tall and high sided truck. (I can imagine MFA shenanigans with this, if it proves to decent in its role). at least, that's what it looks like to me.

Target priority anyone?

I really don't like the look of that armoured car thing, and, if i'm honest, i'm not blown away by that Scion Squad either. Shame.

An Armour Save? No, never heard of it. Me? I play Imperial Guard.

It was just a thought. I find it weird that the Command Squad isnt a Militarum Tempestus _Scion_ Command squad, but they probably ran out os space on the box or their pig-latin consultant had a stroke in the middle of the project.

It's also possible that the Command Squad is not commanded by a "Scion", but rather someone who was brought into the Schola Progenium based upon their merit or something of that nature and groomed to be an officer.

They know we want greatcoats, they tease us with greatcoats, and yet they refuse to give it to us!

Am I really the only person that likes both those kits?

I suppose it makes sense. I've always hated the IG default kits for being so boring and these are deviant enough from the IG norm that I would find them appealing while a regular IG player who wants their 1940s war in their 41st Millenium would not.

That's ok. I like the kits too. The truck is a bit squat, but I can see where they are coming from.

I actually quite like the new models. The beret guard are based on some of the older stormtrooper art and it is nice to have an APC that is not a mobile box. The tracks however...

I believe I have found a contender. A 1930's locally made Chinese armored car. Apparently when Japan invaded, a bunch of Chinese big wigs organized a bunch of home guard companies. They then had dozens of armoured cars whipped together in the local factories, improvised from whatever was available. I think they actually ended up designing better vehicles than GW in 2014..

Also you will find that (as said before) this TMNT armoured truck comes VERY close to the GW model, including the motor exhaust feed into the driver section:

I'm curious how they are going to justify the name change fluff-wise.

Either they will do what they always do and retcon everything, or write some bit of fluff about a Imperial Bureaucrat deciding to make everything High Gothic for reasons.

The Imperial books seem to be using High Gothic for their titles. It shouldn't take away the original names of the organisations that we know and love.

Hopefully they won't scrap the term IG from the book altogether, not that they will ever be able to get rid of it even if they did.

It coincided with everyone at GW suffering traumatic unrelated head injuries, so we're lucky that 40k still takes place in space.

Ah, militarum tempestus is a new codex indeed! It has several entries, scions, the new truck, the ogryns, etc... It allows you to make an Arbites force, as well as a special forces contingent to guard armies!

Beware these tend to be LRBT-sized or bigger. I wouldn't rush to buy a proxy until we know the real size of that thing (...and something tells me it's not really that big).

That looks a lot like the model allright, except you can see how even the chinese knew that angled armor is a good thing, yet the imperium never seemed to learn this....
