Seems GW pushed back April releases to April and we get another week with surplus releases to fill a WD:
Preorders are up, Void Shield generator already sold out.

Quake Cannon Crater $37
Clan Raukaan $49.50 (online only)

Void Shield Generator
Limited edition - 1000 copies numbered in fancy box
Made of 10 hard resin pieces, and extremely detailed. Its a square structure with a platform on which emerges 4 towers with the void shield generator in the center of them. The structure looks as tall and wide as a bastion.
Its listed at $100

Quake Cannon Craters
These are plastic, and come with 4 craters. Each of the craters come in two halves, so that they can be pulled apart and used as a rough battlefield barricade using battlefield debris as a wall. There is a lot of detail and wreckage on these, and being able to use them as a barricade of sorts makes them nice.
Listed at $37

On this weeks WD:
reader on faeit212 wrote:there is no mention of the new IG anywhere. Cover is the generator, there's about 15 pages devoted to Lord of the Rings, a quick Nids vs Imperial Knights battle report (Looks like Nids get hammered, 1 knight wipes out half of the Nid list) and the aforementioned how to deal with knights discussion with the developers.

BTW current WD also uses 2 pages to describe how awesome an old Gandalf miniature is.

$100 would be what... £50-60 that seems like alot for the void shield generator. Still having seen one proxied a good few times in my local store I'm guessing people wanted the model. And it'll be nice to have some official proportions

£60 for a largish resin building isn't bad. Making it in resin and making it a limited edition suggests that GW don't think it will sell. Have any 3rd parties made a suitable model for it yet?

Makes me unhappy whenever models are LE but OTOH sounds like it'll be easy enough to convert and having an official model to refer to for shape and size will be nice. I also expect 3rd parties will be more than happy to do a non LE one.

So hard resin.. being sold through GW.
Could that have to do with the rumour FW will be available on the revamped GW site? Could lines of communication be getting crossed and it's a FW piece?
I can't really think of a better explanation unless GW are removing the distinction between GW actual and FW and throwing everything in together.

Also man the idea of limited edition models still amuses me to no end, isn't the expensive part of making a model the mould?

Oh, I certainly vote with my dollar, but the problem is that that is not enough. The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that.

Sooooo....

They retired the "moon crater" bag full of big blast craters and put up ONE crater for $37?

So, the Helm's Deep and Minas Tirith walls released for LOTR years and years ago were a harbinger of FW/GW blurring the lines?
Or maybe the weird little resin chapel bit with a fake stained glass thing was?

The Ork and CoD barricades are both hard resin and they've been part of the GW catalogue for years, so I wouldn't read too much into this.

Those were cosmetic recasts of the existing castle walls, and you know that.

Lol. Only GW could think it's a good idea to release powerful new fortification rules that lots of competitive players are taking three copies of, and then make it a limited-edition kit. I'm struggling to even begin to understand the sheer ignorance and stupidity that goes into that kind of decision.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

If the craters look cool, I'll think about getting them.

Void Shield generators... probably not for that much. I don't recall what the Void Shield Generators do from Stronghold Assault. I vaguely remember a 6" or 12" bubble of 4++ goodness from the Apocalypse data sheet.

void Shield generators create a void shield. 12" radius from the generator.
It's AV12, is removed on glance or pen, and can be restored on a 5+.
Each generator can buy another 2 shields, iirc.

You know there will be uber rules for the generator listed in a $50 data slate and if you take three you'll get a super rule...

Possible explanations:
1.) They are not certain that GW will be around a year from now and that plastic moulds would pay of until then
2.) They will release a new data slade on fortifications, invalidating the half a year old rulebook, nerfing fortifications
3.) Two plastic kits per month is the current maximum capacity as they had to sell most infrastructure to make the half-annual look at least half-decent.

4) They made the kit 6 months before SHA and still need to release it to recoup costs. Unfortunately, SHA wasn't as popular as they thought so they figure demand will be low. They decide to do a limited release for now just to try to recoup and keep the option to rerelease later.

Nah. They would have released it with Stronghold Assault if it was ready.

They could have released it with SHA, but it wouldn't be the first time they staggered things that were already ready to go. Just giving an alternate theory besides all the silly ones.
