Any retailer getting some will just put them on eBay if they're going to sell for $500. Normal customers won't even see them offered for RRP. Nice one GW. As if GW prices weren't high enough, they're creating a situation that encourages further profiteering. This is the one thing I don't like about MtG, boxes are released at sensible amounts, but retailers see valuable cards in it and mark it up a heap, maybe five times as much as RRP. They simply aren't available anywhere for RRP thus putting them out of the reach of anyone who doesn't have megabucks to spend. Not a model GW should follow given they've antagonised their customer base in numerous ways already.

No, in this case it was sold over the counter on the Saturday morning. The fella that bought it was going to Orkify it.

My third one I got from an flgs that was around 3 hrs after being put in the shelf. The average player isn't paying the $100 for it and I only did because I knew the unaverage player will buy from eBay at 300-500% mark up. Other flgs we're told no when trying to order 1.

If people want to pay for it, fine, let them. It's not like he's forcing anyone to part with their money.

The higher ups at GW must be having a laugh and opening the champagne, with 1.000 plastic kits they make € 100.000, give or take, in a couple of days.

I agree nothing wrong with buying this and reselling for profit.

But I think the resentment is that he's boasting about how he blocked someone getting it for $100 off the shelf so that he could make money.

Frankly I still don't see a problem with that... Shouldn't he make some extra bucks by taking an opportunity? I mean, how many here wouldn't do the same?

So the next time GW does something, it will sell for $150 instead of a $100. All it shows, is people will still buy no matter how much the cost is. So if GW just sticks to Limited runs now, there is always 1000 people world wide that will buy it. How do you think Forge World stayed in business. It's model is not selling mass products, but small batches of expensive products. Looks like GW might be following the same format now.

Time will tell.

I am not boasting about anything. Many many people have been calling out my $500 sale as illegitatme and hoping I am one of those who got shafted with an over sale. So here's the proof that none of that is true. I have also yet to have heard any credible source prove anyone was notified of an over sale. That over sale article on Faeit 212 sounds illegitatme the to me. Let me tell you my intentions on the matter and the sequence of events leading up to the $500 sale. I happened to have Friday off which I almost always work a,d being a player interested in owning the Generator and it's limited run, I was going to preorder the model. Seeing interest build I knew this was going to be an almost instant sell out. I literally checked every 15 minutes on Friday for the preorder and had a good idea when preorders went up from some of my club members previous purchases. I was seeing divergent with my wife on Friday and keeping an eye on the site with my phone. At 2:00 CST as soon as the movie ended it went up. I tried to order on my phone but apparently GW isn't iPhone friendly and I couldn't enter my new address. While I was checking out though the item changed, with two in my cart, to not available. So I called GW customer service to complain as allocating to a cart should hold an item to complete the sale. Customer support told me they allocated quantities to specific countries and they were still available in Australia, so I was able to order two from there. Which coincidently ment I paid the Australian price of $120 for each, plus $40+ for shipping to the USA so my total investment was around $277 as they gave me some small discount for ordering two. My intention was just to make my money back as I wanted to keep one and figured I could sell the other for at least double. I choose the eBay auction with a best offer feature, since I had no idea what anyone was going to pay once these had sold out instantly. I knew it was going to be over $200 and under $500 and that is the only real option for best offers on eBay otherwise you throw it out the on auction and risk someone else under cutting you with a buy it now auction or doing what I did first. I was going to accept an offer for much less than $500 until a buyer outside of the US offered to buy it at $500, so I took the offer. Thanks in no small part to the free press from here, and Faeit 212, which instantly hyped up my sale and generated interest. The next sale to go up on eBay slashed the buy it now to $250 and it settled around the $350 mark for a sale last week. I am on the email list for a FLGS that is 40 miles from me and an hour ahead time zone, and after I got home from work Friday at 4 pm, which is 5pm at the FLGS, they still had a VSG on the shelf and were willing to hold it for me. I couldn't believe it but again, most people are t going to pay $100 for a model that Wil be recast by Chinese Forge World, and isn't allowed in tournaments at this time. Obviously at this time I knew I could flip it for at least $300, so it was stupid not to. Anyone else who actually wanted it would have been there to buy it at that store, and someone else could easily have done what I did and made triple off the sale too.

This is not me exploiting anyone! this is GW doing something stupid and GW customers being insane enough to go along with it and yet another business looking to profit of of GW's stupid decisions and recast it. He'll the VSG was actually made in China where there is a reputation for companies to do exactly this. They could have even "destroyed" the molds by calling up a reseller to take them. this is GW's mess, I simply was able to take advantage of it witht the intention to walk away with a VSG for myself basically for free, but instead I made a profit, sue me.

You bought it with the sole intention of selling it an an unreasonable mark up after a demand or supply shock. This is the very definition of price gouging. While not a crime, don't be shocked that other find this behavior reprehensible.

Actually, it's not, limited supply is not a demand or supply shock, and price gouging can in fact be a crime. The qualifications to price gouging are a period of emergency (newp), necessary items (more newp), and price ceilings (GW and price CEILINGS? Aw hell newp). He bought it speculatively at RETAIL so it's not like he was a shop owner not putting it on the shelf to sell on eBay like what happens with MtG sets.

Close, but not so much. Period of emergency is not required for Price Gouging, a supply or demand shock is. I would say that we had that here. I am, of course, talking about price gouging as a concept, not as a specific crime.

Actually again no. Limited supply in terms of a small release like this is not a supply shock since there has been and only will be x number at this time. Supply shocks are drastic changes to the availability. And again, actually period of emergency is generally a requirement.

I was quite happy to get the limited edition rule book and then sell it on. After all those who just wanted the rules could in fairness just buy the standard rule book. I will probably do the same with the Istvann limited book.

However I feel the pain when it comes to minitures. There is no alternative, you cant just buy the standard version so it does hurt when people resell it for profit.

Well, as per my previous posts , a store in my city had one on the shelf on release day...so they were not sold out before release day.

The point was that price gouging is in fact a legal definition and can be a crime when it meets certain criteria. Profiteering however is far more fitting in this case, which is still not illegal. As pointed out by the article I obviously read.
