It was agreed on the thread a long time ago that anything from the books that hasn't come up in the latest standard aired episode should be spoilered.

It's hard for us who read the books to say whether something has happened or not already in the series, especially when having fallen behind. But since the mods want it that way, I'll spoiler in advance.

Spoiler:
Snape kills Dumbledore.

I read the spoilers because I don't watch the show and I'm curious who gets whacked. I'm running a $10,000 bet with a friend that Ned Starke survives season 1. I've been working my way backwards, but I haven't seen much on him.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Good and bad is very gray in the books. And as good and bad people die, good people become bad and bad people become good. And some gray people just become more gray.

Take the attempted assassination of Bran: at first it seems like a bad character was doing a bad thing by trying to kill a witness. In the end it turns out that Jofrey ordered to have him killed. Was it because he was so evil he just wanted to kill a random kid? In the books it was heavily implied that he overheard King Robert say that nobody should suffer like that and he should be spared from it. So he ordered to have him killed because he wanted his fathers approval by taking away the suffering.

Killing a comatose cripple, is that really a bad thing or is it a good thing? Does it depend on the motivation?

Nobody is good, hardly anyone is only bad, it's pretty interesting.

No, that'll probably be a part of Ep 10, the finale.

Ep 9 will most likely be set entirely at the Wall. Its going to be Season 4's big battle scene, like S02 E09 The Battle of the Blackwater. The promo didn't show any scenes other than at the Wall.

Did the stupid, stupid "Look at me, I am Bren, and I am a

See, that would have been so helpful... unfortunately we don't get the previews for the next episode on HBO Canada for some strange reason.

But that was an epic episode tonight!
Though there were a couple things that bugged me, namely;
Spoiler:
IIRC, both Pip & Gren are still alive at the end of book 5, so killing them tonight sucked. But at least we still have Dolorous Ed and his sense of humor.

Are you freaking kidding me? I don't really side with the 'Martin writes the final books terribly, so I really hope they change a heap' crowd, so changes like this;

Spoiler:
Pip & Gren

for no other reason than 'because we want to' annoys me and takes me out of the show. It makes me stop thinking of it as ASoIaF and instead think of it as 'generic fantasy show #12'. Which I don't really care about, because it has diverged so much from something that I did like. Ah well.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

That freaking pissed me off. Two early deaths

Spoiler:
Pip and Gren. Also I swear to Gawd that Jon the one that put the arrow in HER and not Sam IIRC

Now I am more convince that GRRM is finishing off his book serious via HBO.

He never found out I think in the books. The shaft was feathered the same as 2 or 3 of the other archers, so it was ambiguous, and he had to live with that.

Sam didn't kill her either.

In the books the archer who shot her wasn't identified.

In the show, its the boy archer, Olly, the only survivor from one of the villages raided by the Wildlings who kills Ygritte.

Now I am more convince that GRRM is finishing off his book serious via HBO.

Thats a possibility. He strikes me as a little lazy and has a short attention span.

Other than the Song of Ice and Fire series, hes also writing the Wild Card series, occasional Sci Fi and Fantasy short stories, contributes to multiple author short story compendiums (Dangerous Women), writes screenplays for TV shows (Game of Thrones; and he also worked on Beauty and the Beast), is going on tour to promote the GoT tv show, attend fan conventions, is an avid NFL fan...I have no idea how he finds the time to write new material for ASOIAF.

Hell, the guy even said once that when his favourite football team performs poorly, he gets depressed and stops writing. Football is a higher priority for him than finishing his greatest life's work.

The guys really knows how to start great novel series, but he never quite finishes them.

I'm a bit afraid that next episode

Spoiler:
Stannis will be overshadowed by all the other stuff. Kinda feels like the writers hate him or something, the way he gets portrayed every time. The one moment he gets to be glorious, and it will all be forgotten in comparrison to Stoneheart and all.

I liked the last episode.. It was a nice change to see them focus on just 1 storyline for once.

They should have just killed that redhead beardy leader guy though.

Spoiler:
It'll probably be the penultimate moment in the season, which ain't shabby. TBH I think the writers' take on him is pretty solid. Stannis isn't that likeable IMO, nor would he make a good king.

Regarding this episode,

Spoiler:
I wish we'd seen a little more of the depth the book had in terms of the Night's Watch's preparation for the battle and the strategies involved (in other words, stuff we probably should have seen in an early week). And the Jon and Ygritte moment (also quite different from the book, but then so is their romance) felt a little cliched and contrived.

But again it's not the book, it's a TV show and with a wider audience, so I understand. It was still another highly entertaining episode.

I didn't feel like it was cliched.

Spoiler:
Considering the fact, that rarely does the main character loses their love. To be honest I loved the episode. I hate everyone at king's landing, I thought it was a fun episode, but I've heard people were actually bored by it.

Considering Ygritte and friends just spent the last few episodes butchering women and children (and some of them eating them) its hard to feel much sympathy

that video clip and song is pretty classy....
the kids nod works very well as well
