Actually, I would find it quite hilarious of those only invaded (and massacred) the North, but the South was not cold enough for them and therefore they just stayed North and left when summer comes back.

Having an existing fanbase carry over from Lord of the Rings certainly helped.

Sean Bean is the sole reason the show came to my notice. I'd never heard of the books or GRRM. But I saw the trailers for Season 1 on Sky, recognised Sean Bean and thought "Wow! This looks amazing! And Sean Bean's in it!".

But of course, I should have seen "Baelor" coming, given Sean Bean's track record.

Then in between Season 1 & 2, I went and read the first 3 books, Game of Thrones, Clash of Kings and Storm of Swords.

And in between Season 2 & 3, I'd read Feast of Crows, and Dance of Dragons

I read the entire series in the space of a year or so.


I have a new obsession, to add to my obsessions with Elder Scrolls, Lord of the Rings, Warhammer 40K, all because one actor I recognised was in a trailer.

I got into GOT because I saw the simpsons opening that tributes them and was like

"WTF was that all about?"

watch episode one and that was that!

I love The character he is more interesting than any other character. Eddard but more badass

I too really like Stannis. I think he's very much over looked.

Isn't Stannis busy burning loyal members of his household to curry favour with a foreign and apparently very bloodthirsty god..............I don't see the "Crazy" Queen doing that?

Stannis is a religious fanatic. With Melisandre breathing down his neck, I fear he he might try to force the religion of R'hlor on the north unless Jon can restrain him and counter balance Melisandres influence.

Have you read the books this far and beyond ?

Stannis isn't honorable - though he still is the best option for a king.

Weren't they, in the books, traitors to him? Lying and keeping information from him and all that..

Can't remember tbh - been a long tme since I read them - but the implication in the show is that they just won't accept the new religion which also demands blood sacrifice - Stannis is now pretty heavily involved in this which if he wins may mean a very bloodsoaked and burning corpses type of rule? Of course his New God needs to grant him victory but the purge that follows could make the Mad kings reign look tame - plus I wonder if the Mad King also thought he was serving the God of Light when he started talking about brnign everyone and evrything - perhaps he had had a Red Priestess whispering in his ear?

The later books seem to imply that Dany may also be seen as a prophet by the followers of the God of Light - especally since Mellisande gets some prophercies mixed up..........

Stannis sold his soul at the first opportunity to some Red Woman and her god, Stannis like Ned can't play the game of thrones because they lack and subtlety and have a code of ethics thats very black & white and completely unsuitable for the real world

I don't recall Stannis forcing the north to believe in the Lord of Light, either; Mellisandre converts a lot of wildlings by herself.

Well they tried to sell his daughter to the lannisters. So they had it coming.
