Yeah she looks lovely - lucky guy Mr Albatross I take you have not met her yet then?
The Show I feel has been very good at casting - even if they don't look the way I thoguht they should (Dany) they have characters right.
Although Brian Blessed as Robert would have been great - we had a debate recently how, like zombies and Dinosaurs he improves pretty much any film?

The Casting cannot really be understated. I have been impressed with almost everyone.
I've been most impressed with Petyr, Sandor, Tyrion, and Oberyn though. Those 4 have really stood out to me in terms of acting. It's a shame we won't be seeing as much, or any in some cases, of them anymore.

You left out Arya who's a stellar tiny actress. Agreed on the other 4 though. They are, or have been, true standouts.
But like you said, across the board they've done a great job. Jorah, Brienne and the Onion Knight are perfect. Momoa as the Khal was excellent. Stannis and Tywin are nearly in that group of 5 for me. Can't fault Sean Bean ever.
Seriously the list goes on. Whoever is doing the casting should be able to punch his ticket for life with his choices from this show.

The only one I haven't liked much is Melissandra. She just doesn't seem to have enough of that 'insane religious zealot' on the show like she does in the book.
In the book she reminds me a lot of the Templars from Kingdom of Heaven, always answering any situation with cries of "God wills it!"
Mel in the show however just seems a bit too passive in comparison to how she comes across in the books.

But yeah, she's well cast for the role. I admit I didn't have a mental image of her from the books but the casting was well done. Though the characters I did have an image of....none of them looked like the show except Robert. Granted, the kids are all like 4-5 years older than the books so that wasn't going to happen anyway
Having watched S1 before reading the books, (at a rate of 2-3 book,a year between seasons)...I have the opposite problem...most of the GOT and COM characters in my head resemble their show counterparts. In the case of Daenerys it's probably for the best. In my head it's not a 13 year old teenage girl getting bonked by a barbarian, it's a 20 something year old.
The only characters that I'm annoyed with are Daario without his blue hair and beard, and 3 times casted Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane. In S1, they should have kept him in his helmet and not shown his face, he should have been cut from S2 and his line given to Amory Lorch. They didn't need to cast him for proper until S4, faceless body doubles would have sufficed. 3 actors in 4 seasons was jarring and confusing.
Ramsay was fantastic, much better than my book impression. Theon is good, but needs to look more emaciated and crippled, but that's a costume/special effects problem not acting.
Stannis is great, the actor goes a great job I think but is hindered by BAD writing.

It's not even that he's not ugly enough, he's just not RUGGED enough. They needed someone like the guy who played Tormund Giantsbane to play Stannis. Someone so rugged he could kick the gak out of you just by looking at you. I don't get that at ALL from the guy who plays Stannis. He's too short, doesn't have an ugly enough mug, and just doesn't exude the sheer level of badass you get from the character in the books. He does nothing for me as Stannis, which is a shame because I love book Stannis.

Heh, I love show Stannis, Good acting, terrible writing. And he came across as a badass in the show to me, S02E09 Blackwater was awesome.
Though IIIRC I might have watched Season 2 before I reach Clash of Kings (and I've only read through the whole series once so far) so my impression was probably set and solidified by the show.

Think that character is as sexy as hell though, and manages to really be sinister with it. The way she was looking at John Snow at the end of the last episode was like a big cat eyeing up it's next meal
That's from just watching the show though, so can't draw comparison to the books.

Heh. Maybe she dyes it. There is precedent for that in ASOIAF, the Tyroshi were known for their brightly coloured hair. Daario the mercenary had blue hair and beard in the books.

Finally got around to watching Episode 8.
Liked what they did with Sansa, and the fight near the end was very well done and close to the book; in both instances I thought to myself "Obryn, you stupid cocky melon-fether, you should have just wasted the gak-stain"

Also, does it bother anyone else how they didn't have spears at the siege of the Wall? A wall of pikes and spears would have been helpful against that giant.
Then again, that may be the armchair general side of me thinking.

Other than 300, I can't think of a single movie that really sold the masses of troops as spear users. It takes a fraction of the time to manufacture a spear, it is incredibly easy to use- a point and stick interface- and was the mainstay of most medieval armies. The cult of the sword is strong though, and so our heroes must have swords.
