Hello Plague, new account I see.

I believe Castiel closed recruitment but we've had one or two players drop out I believe and we've only just reached the first real combat of the game so I imagine you could just about get in as the last late sign up, but it is up to him, of course.

Have we decided on a cause of action, can i PM the GM what i will do?

I plan to Cast Prescience, Activate Force Weapon and charge into the Guard on the left.

This ok with everyone?

PM cas anyway, he did request we did...and yeah, that sounds good to me. May the Dice gods favour you.

I thought that was also your name on here, maybe I was mistaken.. I'd gotten used to the old Internal Plague handle on the original Darkstorm.

As a new addition to the squad, is there any specific action our leader would like me to perform? Being a combat marine, my abilities generally come down to "run up to something and hit it", but, yeah.

Well, seeing as there's six of us in Squad Nirn now, due to our new addition, I say you come with me (Sargeant Nirn) and Yeroc (Raphael) to hit the Hive Guard on the left.

I need to wait for you to tell me what the result is, correct?

Not necessarily. Krak grenades have a strong but really small blast radius. Aim for a leg or something, with the throwing skills of a Space Marine Deathwatch dude you should easily be able to avoid hitting your friend.

I should think of a new signature... In the meantime, have a

There would be a 1 in 3 chance of potentially hitting Nirn as a combat marine is only BS 4. Surely with a power axe you'd be better to charge?

Um, hi everyone. Castiel, mighty lord, angel of Thursday and all that, has given me permission to jump in here in place of purplefood, brother Mendal? Here is my character, and one I have used before alongside Glass's character in a previous game of Deathwatch.

Player Name: Deadshot

Character Name: Varus Renzo

Class: Marine

Chapter: Blood Ravens

Age: 214

Appearance: Varus Renzo wears a full-suit of venerable Mk V Heresy Armour, a gift from long ago, worn by then Watch Commander Torvan, adorned with a number of purity seals and Marksmen Honour badges. Renzo sports a close-cropped tidy haircut and only a single scar on his face, a scratch above the right eye, inflicted during his last mission as part of the (in)famous Killteam Gernheart). by an Eldar shuriken that barely missed him. Upon his armour is inscribed the names of all those who have fallen at his side, to honour their memory and remind those with inferior recollection of the brave heroes the galaxy will never know. Brandt Gernheart, Black Templars. Marius Soulheart, Space Wolves. Ancient Martellus. Just a few of the names upon his gauntlets.

Background:
Varus Renzo’s first contact with the Deathwatch came when the former Lord Inquisitor, Kryptman, came looking for recruits to form a special Killteam. The purpose of this killteam was simple: destroy the planets in the path of Hive Fleet Leviathan before it could absorb the biomass and therefore lose resources. Renzo and his company captain, Aramus, were both selected, but were unable to comply with Kryptman’s demands and had him investigated by the Ordo Hereticus.
After that, Renzo was inactive for a year before joining Killteam Gernheart, along with Balar Nirn. The two have not served together since but remain strong friends to this day.
Since that time Renzo has changed greatly. A docile intellectual in hindsight, Renzo now fights with a fury and a vengeance like few others. He gives no quarter and asks none in return. He has fought for 134 years in the Deathwatch, and is a veteran of campaigns against the Ork, the Eldar and their Dark Kin, the Tau Empire, the Hrud, even the vile Borghesi for a year, serving alongside another friend from the days of Gernheart, Sevran Valar, in a covert mission to sabotage an Eldar colonization.
Personality: Renzo is a stern resolute warrior, but prefers to follow the directions of younger marines, only weighing in his expertise and experience where needed. Renzo once dreamed of leadership, from Watch Commander to squad sergeant, but those dreams are gone. Although more than happy to lead if asked, he prefers to follow.
Renzo is gifted with an eidetic memory, flawless recollection of every face, conversation, sight and smell ever experienced, a trait shared by almost all Blood Ravens. He has a great respect for relics and history, a trait that has earnt him favour with the Techmarines in the Watch, and his venerable suit, as well as possessing a natural affinity for biology, particular Xenos biology. Short days (his memory helps) of studying anatomy and previous experience under Kryptman has made him an expert in Xenos weak points, and particularly Tyranids, knowledge upon Varus prides himself.

Equipment:
For this deployment Varus has chosen to wield a Combi-Flamer instead of his standard bolter, and decided the perilous nature requires his lovingly maintained relic sword, Remembrance, be left at home, lest the relic of his chapter be lost to the bowels of the Great Devourer.

Combi-Flamer, Frag and Krak grenades, serrated combat knife, Bolt Pistol.

As I have been offered to replace Brother Mendal, who is fighting the Brodmother IIRC, I will continue to operate in his stead.

Cas, for my actions, I will open fire on the smaller Tyranids with the Bolter part of my combi-weapon, aiming for precise headshots to conserve ammo rather than spray and pray, while standing by the Multimelta to counterhcharge any gribblies who get close enough to be a threat.

Well, presumably it was obvious in my post, but Elysius is going to flank left and hopefully be able to torch as many of the bugs as possible in one go.

Also, hey Deadshot. Glad to see Renzo again! I still remember writing him in the final Deathwatch event way back... he had quite a serene end, that of course wasn't his end. (Far too much potential eh?)

Well, I do still some day plan on running Deathwatch II (I really am undecided on whether to scrap the original plot or recycle it somehow) so if he survives this mission (I wouldn't get your hopes up) then it'd be good to see him return for that, one day.

You know, I just realised this squad really needed an Apothecary option who could 'patch up' marines to restore a wound here or there perhaps.

I would absolutely love to have Renzo back for Deathwatch 2. It would be good to get the old gang together again.

I agree. Although I suppose if the marine falls his geneseed witll be eaten so no use for the Apothecary.

..The last thing we want is for a hive ship to assimilate superhuman Astartes geneseed. One would assume it's happened in the fluff, but if they actually did you'd think they'd use the genetic material for something. We've seen hive fleets absorb the resilience of orks, after all. I suppose it takes a large amount of genetic material from any one 'species' for the hive fleet to use it.

Anyway, let's see how this event goes. I'm not so worried about the gaunts and defenceless brood mother, the hive guard on the other hand may prove quite tough. It also implies there's a Hive Tyrant about which is a scary prospect to face for an entire kill-team, let alone just a half of one.

Well, if it is the case, then I suggest we put all our krak grenades in a nice bunch, and ram it forcibly down the Tyrant's throat. Balar has disposable arms .

There used to be actual rules for Tyrannic War Veterans/Deathwatch using krak grenades by forcing them between the chitin bone plates of Tyranids, I'm pretty sure it was just a standard WS attack and then they took a S6 AP4 hit. It'd be cool to be able to do that here seeing as otherwise our krak grenades are worthless.
