The radio here had the best conclusion on that catch call.
The call was correct.
The rule itself is garbage.
Gotta fix the rule.

Thing is, the Letter of the law, or RAW if you'd prefer.... a receiver of a kick is to have that "halo" whether he calls for a fair catch or not. Which is why I said earlier, I think the NFL refs just need to call the penalty for what it is.... There have been plays earlier this season where a guy didn't fair catch it, did NOT have his halo infringed on, and was still crushed by a hit, because the DB has a great "launching" move that covers that 1-2 yards in the blink of an eye.

Eh.... What I just saw on ESPN (which is kind of turning into the Fox News of the Sports world) that apparently Peyton played "the past month" with a torn quad.... Reports on, IIRC, CBS and other sports media was that one was "pulled" (yeah yeah.. I know, that's just a very minor tear, but still), and the other a "deep bruise"
...So, based on that, I also saw on ESPN that news about Fox... but it appears that, as of right now it's just Fox (though, I would bet that most of the coaching staff will follow suit when the new guy comes in)

Jay glazer (imo the gold standard of accurate reports) has tweeted it's the whole staff. Now that's not to say some of them might be back. Especially like gace. But as it stands reports out now of it being the whole staff. Interesting situation I guess they really were "all in" on this year. My guess is manning retires now.

Honestly, I hope that when he hangs up the pads, he picks up a clipboard... the guy is too damn smart to be a commentator/ "expert analyst". He seriously needs to be a coach.

Yes because that's exactly what I want in a coach. Someone who buckles under a slightly adverse situation. Peyton should just go away and enjoy his money.

And not very reflective of reality. It is emotional though, so it has that going for it.

the hit shown earlier in this thread should still be illegal, because they are making contact simultaneously with the catch.

Which, if we assume is true, still has nothing to do with his knowledge of the game. Not performing physically well in post-season doesn't mean that the strategy isn't accurate, and few people are better at understanding the game. He probably should have retired as it seems all he has left between time and injury are fits and starts of his old self, physically. His body may not be 100% NFL anymore but his mind still is. He will probably make a great Offensive Coordinator and/or coach given half a chance.

If we're to judge by some previous QBs turned coaches (John Harbaugh), Peyton probably wouldn't do too badly as a coach. I would say though, directly after retirement, he needs to work in College or lower, at least for a few years, to let the guys he played with/against move along, as respect may be an issue. (though if he's specifically a QB coach to start off with, that interaction, particularly with defenses or other positions is mitigated)

It's okay man, haters gonna hate.
Seriously though, should be a showdown with how well the Colts are playing, and how lackluster the Pats defense looked against the Ravens.

I agree. He needs to have the situational awareness to realize he's not getting any return yards on either of these punts and fair catch it. His pride/overconfidence seemed to be the problem.
What's even worse was that was his second questionable catch of the game We get it dude, you can run it back well, but for safety's sake call a fair catch once in a while.

And now John Fox is out of Denver. Can't help but feel it is quite similar to the Harbaugh situation in San Fran. Great coach swept away by unrealistically crushing expectations. Think the Broncos' time as Super Bowl contenders is at an end.

Well, at least in Denver, it seems as though Fox himself felt that he'd done all he could, and so it was much more of a mutual agreement to leave. In San Fran, I definitely got the feeling that Harbaugh was gone, even if he won the Super Bowl

Reports coming out the jets have hired Todd Bowles. That seems like a pretty good hire for them. He's clearly a good defensive mind to keep them stabilized on one side of the ball. If they can get a good OC and a decent performance out whatever corpse of a QB they roll out they might be ok. Looks like the AFCE is a defensive division.

So, it seems that Marcus Mariota has confirmed that he is entering the NFL draft.
Who wants to bet he'll be taken by the first team, who will use and abuse him because they lack future planning?

Arizona experienced the particular leagues greatest record right up until three weeks ago. However, if your own offense only creates 57 yards the pretty negative.
