Just rewatched Rent umpteenth time and it is still one of my favorite movies/musicals ever. Other favorites include Chicago and Sweeney Todd. What are some of your guys' favorite musicals?

If I got a chance to see it, it would probably be Book of Mormon. Or do you mean any musical, not just Broadway? I realize I'm continuing the "Matt and Trey" theme, but Cannibal is also a great musical. It's a fun spoof on Oklahoma, the songs are catchy, and it's worth multiple viewings. Runner up is Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

If it doesn't, it should. I loved that movie.

Hmm. It's hard for me to name a favorite, since shows are so different. Some stuff comes to mind from recent years.

As far as comedies go, I saw The Producers with Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane, and it was hilarious. Avenue Q and Spamalot get honorable mentions.

In the popular music category, I enjoyed American Idiot. Jersey Boys (obviously from a much earlier era of pop) gets an HM for being better than I expected.

Among big, dramatic shows, Les Miserables is certainly full of melodramatics, but still manages to be a helluva musical.

I'll admit that I still have a soft spot for the Chess soundtrack. I'd love to see a revival sometime. I did manage to see one of the various permutations of that show many years ago.

I really want to see Book of Mormon, but last time I looked for tickets they were going for something like $250 apiece. Which is *nuts* even for Broadway, IMO. Five hundred bucks IS a weekend away, not 2 hours worth of entertainment ON your weekend away.

I'd say Sweeney Todd. It's on my bucket list to act as Sweeney in that one someday. May be a hopeless dream, but maybe I'll get lucky.

Also Hairspray, The Producers, Les Mis, Evita, Phantom of the Opera, and a little-known one called Zombie Prom (Grease with zombies and somehow even cheesier) are my runners-up.

I pretty much love every musical except The Wizard of Oz.

You have great taste in musicals, Ouze! Allow me to add the greatest thing to come from the writer's strike- Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

Avenue Q is very funny. Book of Mormon is also hilarious.

Lion King is the most visually impressive musical I've ever seen, and with great music. I look forward to seeing it again this year.

Shrek was surprisingly good.

Wicked is pretty amazing live.

Once was incredible. Pretty excited to see it again this year.

If Die Hard counts as a Christmans movie, then by gawd The Wall counts as a musical!

Thanks for mentioning that movie, too. I was gonna post "I don't really dig musicals" but after your post I now realize I can say "The Wall is my favorite musical" and totally not be sarcastic or anything about it. Thanks again!
