Not entirely sure what Kan is on about.
If you wanted the fancy pants one without the famous axe then you had a limited time opportunity to get it.
If you didn't care, preferred the axe or missed out, there is still a model available for use.

2nd try might work?

Dammit! Let me play with it a bit.

Just linked the two direct images I used rather than fiddling about with the dropbox.

From their webstore, which is garbage, or from GenCon.

And it is LITERALLY THE SAME MODEL WITH A DIFFERENT SET OF ARMS.

That's "what I'm on about". These 'limited editions' are garbage, they just remove a set of options from the general release model and people fall over themselves to buy it.

I agree with Kan on the annoying exclusives, but it is funny to see how CB continues their proud tradition of putting out exclusives which simply look worse than the non-limited variant
I mean, that authorized bounty hunter wasn't much better in that regard, and with this one I'd take the non-limited one over the limited model 10 times out of 10.

Curious to see what they'll do for Jeanne d'Arc's non-limited release - that model is nice as it stands, just a bit awkwardly posed IMO. Be good to get an even better version of that!

I can see those!

I probably prefer the one with the rifle, although they are both pretty cool.

I prefer the one with sleeves.

And that isn't made to look like redneck trailer trash.

So, that is to say I prefer not taking Van Zant or possibly making my own at a later date. Same with the crummy Hardcase.

Ha!

I like the axe one better!

I might have to pick that one up...

See, we don't have that kind of connotation here in the UK (other than him looking like a bad-ass!)

If they made a mini with a pair of Adidas tracksuit bottoms, cigarette in mouth, pushing a pram that might be a different matter though

Well if the sculptor is sensible they make the non limited one first (since monopose models can be sculpted to look as good as possible),

then the arm swaps are done on the finished model to make the exclusive (possibly with less fine tuning than the original too, after all it's only on sale for a limited time), and unless they are lucky it's not going to look quite as good

Yeah they do seem to have a knack for making the limited sculpt worse than the non-limited version.

So glad the non-limited version got leaked before I wasted my money on the boring rifle variant.

I actually prefer the rifle and I didn't get him because I was "off" infinity at the time. Mistake.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

I may have to get the axe guy to go with my 'muricans. He'd fit right in with the werewolf and his buddy.

Me too, but I like the axe one enough that I don't mind tooooo much.

I love the idea of exclusives, and I love each of the Van Zant figs, but the GenCon one is my fave.

Don't really care for the Joan exclusive, though. Some of the exclusives are hit or miss.

Different strokes and all.

Agreed. I'd like to see it soon too. But It'll be a different arms version. Hopefully not multi-rifle+ rage fist, or 'I like my manicure'. Multi-rifle and sword would be best.

Redneck trailer trash is a stereotype. An expression of bigotry, actually. I think the closest thing in the UK is the term Chav.

So it was only available in a limited time, location and/or seller (limited) and has a different set of arms (a variation of the general release model) but you are upset that it is not different enough for a Limited Edition Variant?

I am honestly surprised, considering your previous complaints that monthly model spots get taken up by models you don't agree with. This would seem to be the perfect compromise.
The LE model doesn't delay or push out any other models as they are only alternative arms/heads while still providing those who want to "fall over themselves" an opportunity to get something to make themselves feel special or scratch a completionist itch.

I can see a sliver of your point "this model should have all the options in the Army builder." But that doesn't actually happen does it? I'm pretty sure Sun Tzu doesn't come with the Boarding shotgun, Multi-rifle and Sniper Rifle in his blister? The usual standard is a single loadout for character and that is what most people expect from the models.

The last Van Zant had a double set of arms? Yeah, this one doesn't. Making a resculpt of the model does not obligate a company to do the exact same thing as before with it.

The "perfect compromise" is "Stop making 'limited editions' as nothing but removing a set of options from a model".

I definitely don't see it that way.

Without this limited edition, I honestly believe they would have just given us one set of arms as that matches what they currently do.

I would be fine with this, as I plan to get a Van Zant with axe down the track when I get into my USAriadna force fully but I am not getting my panties in a bunch that someone else wanted to get a version with a rifle instead.

It should be around a year since her LE release.

I'm not a big fan of the alternate arm approach to LE models. At worst, it removes a possible retail variant of a model - for example. the Bounty hunter on bike is the ITS sniper bounty hunter with shotgun arms and a bike, nothing more. But I wanted the sniper arms, because I like it more. Now I have to convert it or hunt it down on ebay for a premium, because I know those arms will never make it to general release.

At best, it creates a slightly different version of a model (see Van Zant) that doesn't really feel very special. It's not something you'd go out of your way to get unless you really dig the different look - but you won't know if you prefer that look until it's not available and you see the general release model.

I'd far prefer some actual different models. GoGo and the HI Bounty Hunter are nice periphery models. With the games new focus on HVT's in ITS, and with the RPG releasing, it would be nice to see pre-order bonuses shift to more generic models. That way you could pre order it if you wanted it, onsell if if you didn't want it, or just avoid pre ordering.

I have zero problem with exclusive/limited sculpts of any model, so long as there is a widely available version of that model. Have zero problems with that limited sculpt showing different weapons since it's not like any of the regular models show all their weapons in most cases anyways. In most cases one being "better" than the other is also irrelevant since that's mostly a subjective case. Van Zant here seems a perfect example of an exclusive done right.

Already covered in the Infinity RPG thread, but as you're all talking about ltd vs standard versions of figures, it looks like we've got an accidental preview of the non KS version of the Ariadna character. The KS version is the one shown in this image and has a pistol behind his back. The non KS one has a cane instead

It actually makes a certain amount of business sense. You want the better model felt available where more people will buy it, while the not as good model potentially sells better than it otherwise might have, due to the artificial attraction applied by its limited availability.

I agree. It's just that (imo) most of the money spent on the limited models would have been spent on infinity stuff in either case (most people set themselves at least some kind of budget and the LE-hunters are the core fanbase anyway) and they seem to be expending a fair bit of resources faffing about with this stuff while their logistics still leave a lot to be desired (when will my flgs's distributor have the new releases? Feth if anyone knows precisely, really!).
