Hold on to your socks,
The cover for an upcoming White Dwarf mentions "Inside: the most enormous dragon we've ever made"
The cost of this bundle "could" look reasonable in comparison. Do you think a picture of this product next to the original release price of the first metal Fellowship box could make GW management realise how insane they are getting?

I want that exact set, just to paint. But at that price? No freakin' way.
As said, I can get them in plastic in the Goblin Town box for half the price, and I get the scenery and Goblins for a diarama.
And I haven't bought Goblin Town yet because it's too damn expensive.

GW is expensive, that's not news. GW is unreasonable, also nothing new at this point. GW is fond of doing really odd things at times that seem like the polar opposite of what a company seeking to make as much money as possible would want to do.
But then there are things that GW do that really make you sit back in your chair and wonder "Okay, what the feth are they doing?"...this is one of those things.

I clicked that link thinking that someone was once again mistaking the Australian price as their own. Then I noticed that it was $236 CAD.
Now i'm kind of scared to see how much it is in AUD... I can't bring myself to change regions. It's too terrifying a prospect.

Feel exactly the same way. Love the LoTR dwarves, much prefer their proportions to the 'beards with legs' of the GW or Gamezone dwarves, or the giant-headed Mantic ones. But at the price, even for the standard ones, I would feel guilty even requesting it as an Xmas gift.

They're asking $330 AUS. That's about £180, I'm starting to think their resin is mixed with particular white powders that can only be extracted by a special chemical solution
Why else are they so crazy?

It is £118. It is GW trying to market it as a premium product. There is no competition for 28mm Hobbit figures. If you can afford it, want it and think it is worth your money, buy it. If you can't afford it, it isn't being marketed at you.

Well it used to be that the LotR models were cheap and sold in massive bundles. Guess what? It was a massive success. Everyone I know who plays another GW game bought themselves a kit or two with most making a mini army with which to play with.
Now with the stupidly high prices and tiny troop numbers and progressively worse sculpts (seriously, apart from a few models they are awful) there is really no reason to collect the models any more. Honestly I'm just looking forward to when they discontinue the whole line so I don't get saddened that I will never be able to complete my poor elf army...

You don't make something premium by slapping an enormous price tag on it, you have to have something to justify it. I really cannot see why this collection justifies it, but I'm open to suggestions.
There is no competition for 28mm Hobbit figures.
No, but I'm going to make the small assumption that 35mm will be just as good for most people who are looking to collect and paint, which given the somewhat feeble state of the game must surely account for the majority of any remaining sales, in fact, you can get 75mm scale Which seems reasonably priced in co arisen to GW.

If you can afford it, want it and think it is worth your money, buy it. If you can't afford it, it isn't being marketed at you.
If you can't afford it is irrelevant, just because people can afford something doesn't mean they're brainless idiots who won't be in the least critical of the value on offer, and I really struggle to think that more than a comparative handful of people will find any value in this. You really think they wouldn't sell twice as many at half the price? You don't market at one demographic to the detriment of a much larger, more profitable demographic unless you're a moron.

Then why does your location say' East Bay, U.S.A.'?
Regardless, $190 for fourteen miniatures is about $13.50 each. With GW's pricing that's an expected price.

Yes, it's quite expensive. Won't pay that for these minis.
BUT keep in mind that a single Kingdom of Death resin mini goes for $25, a single character mini for Infinity costs ~$12.50, a single plastic character SM for 40k costs $35. You pay $11.50 for a set of six Perry Miniatures characters.
I still other companies still selling their characters at $25+ and not everyone playing War of the Roses with Perry miniatures because of cheap minis...
ps. The sculpts on the Perry minis are some of the best in the business imho, but I still like other games more then historic wargaming...

For me it was the other way round. Lotr introduced me to wargaming and crucially, white dwarf. I would never have heard of Games Workshop and space marines if it were not for the sbg. I subscribed to white dwarf for 5 years reading about warhammer fantasy and 40k, then picked up 40k 5th Ed in 2008 with a Raven Guard army (now stands at a modest 3000pts or so).
I bought space marines because I played LOTR and was exposed via white dwarf to 40k.
But Now I've lost interest in 40k and I'm drifting back to lotr. But extreme prices, poor quality control and abysmal support/promotion for the game is driving me to buy 2nd hand off eBay, and crucially they're driving me into the arms of historical mini makers (currently I'm painting some anglo saxon historical minis for SAGA which I think would make great Rohirrim infantry/militia).
The LOTR SBG brought me into wargaming and made me a GW customer.
But now, GW s mishandling and incompetence with the franchise is driving me away.
