Eh, I'm going on vacations next week, guess Triage X will be a decent show to take.
This week's Sekkai felt a bit weak, but oh man, I can't believe how much I laughed with Knights of Sidonia... There's harem, and then there's Sidonia's harem

And that Izana and her grandmother together... Dayum, 40k Rejuvenat treatments don't hold a candle compared to Sidonia's.

Izana's dress was hilarious. Made me wonder how her granny was so daring and she ended up so very different. I felt like her granny was like Sidonias version of a Goth girl. Tsumugi and the other girls reactions have been funny too, but wow, I'm honestly sorta Team Granny now!

I don't feel so bad for having dropped both of those shows (looks at the harem anime currently in his queue...). Also if Arslan makes magic in it kind of like how the GoT show does, I could see it being okay.
Also I found myself getting caught up in the yuri love fest since last week's Sound! Euphonium episode... The show is really good on several technical levels, but LN spoilers have made me really sad for rooting for two of the main characters and their burgeoning close friendship...
Also, should finish Yowamushi Pedal Grand Road tonight. And then I'll probably start one of the non sports shows in my queue.

Finished Mirai nikki.
Its good, but it gets weaker later on. Like, it doesn't explain who's going to succeed third Deus, or what happened to Yuki and Yuno after they've been reunited.
Apparently in the manga Deus declares both Yuno and Yuki gods, and Yuki returns to the third world (though I don't know what happens to the original third world Yuki)
Overall its decent. Still love the music.

Well for the record we don't Know they have magic in Arslan, just talking to one guy who claims to have made the fog in the big battle and seems to have a crystal ball that told him about someone's death. It's heavy implied it's magic, but he could be faking it. We've not seen any on screen yet. Otherwise you should regret dropping Arslan, it's been pretty good. A nice grounded one so far other than this one guy.
Sidonia is alright to drop. I keep watching it but it's kind of meh. They cliffhangered an episode with horrible deaths of a lot of off ship people. Started the next episode with a repeat of that scene. Then for the rest of the episode never mentioned it again and spent the entire thing on the trio of girls passive aggressively competing for the main dude.

True story, but you fail to mention:
- One the "girls" is either a tentacle or a giant monstrosity the size of a mech (that blushed! Oh my, how I felt all happy inside with that blush )
- One was originally a member of the third sex that only now shifted to female and is pretty much a cyborg with that tech on her. 10 fingers in one hand, damn, that cyborg arm is awesome.
- The "normal" one is the MC's XO ... and pretty much the major strategist of the entire ship. And one big lover of plastic models
And BONUS points for Granny! That woman is awesome: Researcher, badass, and still has enough time to help her granddaughter get a date.
"Normal" harems kinda bore me (unless they are absolutely bat gak crazy hilarious like the one in "Mangaka-San to Assistant-San") but this one?! This one is absolutely crazy
The next ep's preview looks promising enough in the story department too, hopefully we'll get some more info about the plan to take down the big bad boss they are headed to.

That dude had jewels embedded into his hands...But ya there could be no magic, would be interesting. The sword fight in this weeks episode was nicely animated, much better than the previous action scenes. The embellished sparks from the swords hitting each other was a cool effect too.

Anyone ever read any of the Doubt series (Doubt, Judge, or Secret?) by Tonogari Yoshiki? I picked up Secret volume 1, and I'm not sure if I'm going to like this series.

Well, I've brought a Japanese version of Doubt's first volume with me (2nd Hand Manga in Japan are so cheap... it's ridiculous) and it's pretty good. Took me a good time to read it (I am still NOT fluent in any shape, way or form) and I liked it a lot, I still can't believe it lasts enough for 4 volumes (I think) because it doesn't have that many characters and even the area where the action happens isn't that big. According to a friend that read the entire Doubt, you'll be second guessing yourself who the killer is the whole time until the big reveal.

Yeah, but that's apparently what all of the series are like. Secret got better as I worked through it, but I don't think it's anything to write home about.
Gangsta on the other hand was a good volume 1, so I've added it to my list of shows to check out this summer.

Yeah, I usually don't bash fanservice, I just avoid shows that push it too hard. I almost quit this one but stuck it out and was rewarded with sweet giant robot fights towards the end. But yeah the MC was totally 'technically' an adult (guess its debatable as they're all digital humans, they could be years or hundreds of years old) but I just rolled my eyes when she decided to cut out the maturation cycle for the temporary clone body for blah blah 'reasons'.
Still, giant robot fights, Huzzah!
Now I'm watching Vampire Knight but I have a feeling I'm gonna lose interest pretty quick. Gonna give it a couple three episodes to endear itself or not.
So I've been diving too much into r/anime recently, and I keep seeing people laud Madoka Magica as this fantastic series, has anyone watched it? I stopped after 11 minutes of the first episode.
Am I just missing something? (I know the general course of the show's events.)

You're a stronger man than I am. I'm watching Sailor Moon Crystal for the nostaliga factor (used to watch bits and pieces when I was a kid so I don't remember much).
But I saw the hype about the Madoka Magica, but it just doesn't seem interesting at all.
DR:80+S++G+M+B+I+Pwmhd11#++D++A++++/sWD-R++++T(S)DM+ Ask me about Brushfire or Endless: Fantasy Tactics
Heh. Watching Crystal myself, just for something 'light' where I don't really care about missing half the episode due to playing Minecraft.
However, there are some gems out there in the Magical Girl genre.
One, that's only really Magical Girl by dint of it being about, well, Magical Girls (with transformation sequences, natch) is Lyrical Nanoha- which is actually best described as "A Super-Robot/Gundam show disguised as Magical Girl Anime". If you haven't seen it yet, watch it. The first season starts off slow (almost identical to Cardcaptor Sakura, actually) but if you pay attention, you'll start noticing interesting little details about a much darker storyline than you'd first expect. The second and third seasons/series just take the action and story to crazy levels.
Second is actually Pretty Cure- noted for being a MGA where the titular characters just beat the everloving shizznap out of the bad guys, instead of doing the whole 'sparkly love ray' stuff most others do. Apparently lots of physical violence in there, though I've not made it much past the introductory episodes, so I can't say for certain (I don't watch Anime all that religiously, okay?)
Madoka Magica is actually super dark. Like, Game of Thrones levels of 'anybody can die a grisly death', apparently. Highly critically acclaimed, and in a way uses the relative innocence expected of the Magical Girl genre to counterpoint the heavy themes it explores.
Revolutionary Girl Utena I've heard described as a Magical Girl anime, and is capital-A Art right up there with Metropolis in terms of visuals and radical (for its time) theme exploration.
And then of course there's Earth Defense Force Club Love!- which is amazing, and notatallamagicalgirlanimeseriously.
