If you do not have an account with a photo sharing site like Photobucket, then you can simply "Attach" your photos to a post from your files.

If you DO have a photobucket account (or another file/photo-sharing site), then you use the "*IMG*” tag, with the address of each photo you wish to share in the image tags.

The image tag, if you hover over the button that inserts the tag into a post, has the format for the address, and where it goes in the tag.

Anyone know why my image isn't showing up once tagged with [ img ] ?

The following is what I have within the tags:

If you're coping that from flicker then that could be your problem. Flicker has some wonky anti hot linking thing in place.

At least that's my understanding of it.

Odd, using the [ img ] tag and that same http on another website seems to work just fine. Must be some interaction with Dakka and Flickr specifically.

No, Flickr really doesn't like hot-linking.

Here's the post with the exact same link within [ img ] tags I posted to B&C.

Seems to work there. Odd.

If I click on the link you posted earlier:

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8655/16110615794_c1263e5b32_z_d.jpg

I get a 403 Forbidden error so that eliminates it being a Dakka issue I would suggest

But if you click on that previous link I posted and open it in a new tab - it works. And it works elsewhere. Just not coming from a Dakka.

Edit - or, if you cut and paste that link directly into the URL bar it works.

No it doesn't. If I take this link that you posted:

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8655/16110615794_c1263e5b32_z_d.jpg

And open it in a new tab, I get 403 Forbidden

Edit: It might be working for you because you are logged into Flickr or the image is cached on your machine.

Nope, I just see the posted text and nothing else.

Have you considered just using the Dakka gallery to host your pics? We don't care if you hotlink them to other sites.

So odd that one can see that pic and another cannot.

And, I can't use Dakka to host because my original intent was to post a pic for the Off Topic forum and not a Wargaming pic.

Edit - just tried using a different laptop / browser without the cached photo and without having logged into Flickr to open:

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8655/16110615794_c1263e5b32_z_d.jpg

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304464-just-a-test-post/

... and I can see the pic.

But clicking the link from Dakka still doesn't work.

I'm wondering if it's a regional issue or an API parsing issue. Odd.

Thanks to those above helping me triage this though.

Further edit - I found this old post that reports the same problem:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/361002.page

I wonder if Flickr is blocking Dakka or some addresses specifically.

Flickr is very hard to link from. I truthfully would not recommend them as a host.

Instead, I would use Dakka for wargaming stuff, and picasaweb.google.com for non-wargaming stuff. It's free, it works well, and the Google domain is rarely blocked by employers the way imgbucket and other hosts are.

Imgur is also pretty good.

@ouze thanks, I'll look into that.

But for those that can't hot link nor see my photo on:

http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/304464-just-a-test-post/

Can you test one other thing for me? See if you can hit this site and tell me if you see "Ok":

http://static.flickr.com

Edit - test ref to Picasaweb:

Hey it works. Thanks Ouze.

Now if I can only figure out if I can resize it on the Dakka end.

There is no resizing in our UBB forum code.

However, if you were to host them in our gallery, then we do have resizing tools built-in.
