Toy railroad bridges from a Daiso, a 100 Yen shop in Japan.

PBS plastic so use superglue.

I'm using them upside down so I trimmed the corners (the bottom is supposed to be train tracks that I don't have). This got me some nice industrial rubble though.

The grating is a bit large but a 25mm base won't fall through.

6" long

I only found them in one shop, and bought out the stash, but hey, cheap, cheerful and useful.

More pics after they're painted.

Got some modelling done yesterday

Ruins of Middle Earth. The kit is NOT modular and meant to go together one way, but when has that ever stopped me? Tried stacking two of the long walls to make a big building, it works. Didn't go crazy with greebles this time, just a bit to add character.

Nice warm day for priming.

Even got a start on the Defense/Defence Laser tower. Not sure about the red ball turret, worried it looks too much like a Pokeball now. We'll see how weathering comes out.

Tonight's project, LotR ruins+Tamiya sandbags for a makeshift position in an ancient temple.

As with the other kits I am trying to make this one unique, which is not easy, this kit is not modular and not meant to be build any other way. In this case besides the sandbags I added an extra wall from the other half of the kit to make it a 3 sides shape rather than an L.

More to come as I finish off my LotR ruins.

Some progress on the Defense Laser (Defence Lazor for our British readers).

And in its Void Shield Generator form

Gondor Tower, such a fun kit.

And the last batch of Lord of the Ring Ruins, hopefully I can do a shot of the whole ruined temple ensemble soon.

More progress on the LotR Ruins turned makeshift strong point.

I really like how the contrast between the ancient stonework and the crude sandbags looks. Someone definitely had only a few hours to get ready for the attack.

Still more work to do for the gate way, Gandalf #3 definitely needs a base now that I look at him.

And finally got some work done on the Memorial to the Hammer Wars.

The Hammer Wars were a dark time when three different rivals claimed to hold the Sacred Hammer of Saint Johan Hendrik. Millions died before the High Cardinal proclaimed that Saint Johan owned many hammers over the course of his long life and that all three were in fact true Hammers of Saint Johan. Even then true peace was not achieved until several years later at banquet honoring the end of hostilities when two of the three rivals suddenly died of food poisoning. This not only ended the war, it also led to some of the most stringent food safety laws in the Sector.

TL/DR? When I saw the Thor toy I knew I had to make a Hammer Wars memorial with it.

Neat terrain and hilarious background writing. Not too long at all, keep it coming and don't be shy to splash out on wordcount if you ever wax poetic and the muse inspires you.

Inspiring modelling and painting log!

A bit image heavy, nothing that hasn't been seen before but I'm calling it all done.

Three "Ruins of Middle Earth" sets and a Gondor Tower and just a couple of bitz

Defense Laser looking ready to swat a few drop ships out of the sky.

(Assuming they actually maintained it)

Various ruined buildings with every trick I could think of to make sure they don't look like the same dang buildings 3 times.

Scatter debris.

All in all a good project, now time for something else.

I realized this week it's been forever since I painted any infantry and y'know? I still don't want to.

So I saw a $10 Crimson Firebolt on Amazon and after Smoke Stack's review how could I say no?

She's a big girl with wide child-bearing hips.

As noted you can separate the top and bottom, there's 19 (!!) screws but once you get them off you can remove the interior and now...

A rhino fits!

I'll also ditch the top dome, and yes I found an appropriately sized jar lid for it!

I have to figure out what I want to do with the front.

It is tempting to think of using this thing as wings and building a Thunderhawk body. I won't. But I thought about it.

Ooh, nice basis for a 40k vessel there!

Sweet use of Gondor terrain. Fine vision. The main inspiration for Gondor is the medieval Roman empire, namely Byzantines. The style is a good fit for 40k. I'm now of half a mind to get some kits and slap some cables, lumens, skulls, piping and other Imperial paraphernalia on it. Both dogma and tech. Plus posters.

The Crimson Firehawk is in progress, here's some odd bits I've been working on.

A merchant convoy makes it way through the wastelands.

Three new trucks for the space port. Going to have to do a group shot soon. I really like the 1920s looking ones.

And finally Reaper's Ogre merchant, hauling his load across the wastelands. Very characterful model and the head was easy to swap with a spare 40k Ogryn head.

That Junior Jedi ship is awesome! What a find for 10 bucks In the first couple of photos I was thinking 'Thunderhawk', but then you showed the Rhino rolling out of it and it is perfect as a transport/dropship

"Wide, child-bearing hips" indeed!

Some work this weekend, I guess I'm making spaceships huh?

Here's the Crimson Firebird so far, I need a good name for my take.

Somehow the brown is brighter than I would like, is there such a thing as bright brown? Maybe a bath in black ink will help.

And then I have a new project, I wanted to do a take on the Fury Interceptor, the Imperium's standard space fighter (as opposed to Thunderbolts et al which are air breathing jet fighters). The art and the two conversions I found on line are just sort of boxes with guns and it would not be hard to do one with the Space Wolf... flying longboat thing, forget what they're called. But I wanted A LOT of ball turrets and I wanted it to look like it was never meant to fly in atmosphere.

Some Mechanicus terrain to the rescue!

The test of a successful conversion is when you fly it around the room going pew-pew and this one passed the test.

Now of course a cool ship needs a cool name. My previous experiments were the War Rocket Atlas and the Thunder Viper fighters, homages to three great bits of 70s pew-pew zoom-zoom. So what to call this beast?

Presenting the 出-Wing fighter! 出/de in Japanese (chu in Chinese if you're wondering) is a character that means to leave or go out, and to me always looked like a little old space fighter. So the 出-Wing pronounced De Wing. Paint to follow soon because I just love this little guy and I hate painting infantry.

I've always had a fondness for ball turrets, probably going back to reading this in high school:

The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner

By Randall Jarrell
From my mother’s sleep I fell into the State,
And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze.
Six miles from earth, loosed from its dream of life,
I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters.
When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose.

the Mark II will follow once I refresh my supply of wings

Last night's project, Bandai's HG Armored Special Carrier

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0998SZ43Q/

It's meant as a 1/72 mech carrier but is more than large enough for a 28mm troop truck. Nice imposing tractor and a lot of flat space for greebles or decorations.

Leave off the back and sides and it can be a tank transport!

The sides slide down and the front wheels turn left and right, very well engineered. As you might expect from Bandai it was a dream to build and barely needs glue. Kits like this really remind me why Bandai is the industry leader.

Such a good little kit.

Also picked up some Not~Lego guns, they're oversized for 28mm but can work as set dressing.

Wow- very impressive!

No such thing as too much terrain- the mass gives it a realism that individual pieces can never achieve. I've spent time in harbor staging areas that looked just like this- right down to the mishmash of vehicles. Play that sucker as platoon-on-platoon with a limit of 500 points each- see the cat and mouse in operation!

Well that's the issue isn't it...

This was very much done with storage and transport in mind. Nothing too big, nothing on bases, no flock or stuff that comes up, everything a box if at all possible. But the boxes are many and filling up.

I think some of the lesser toys and conversions may be bound for the trash. It's not like I 'need' any of this.

Though I do feel aesthetically the table needs more vertical elements. for game purposes I never liked vertical terrain more than 2 stories, but sometimes the look is important. Maybe finally get some of the tail-sitting rockets I've considered.

Gunship 13, alas falling apart, so I think I will strip it for parts and toss it.

Need to downsize.

Paint peeling too.

Speaking of downsizing, another stackable terrain idea, literally mixing bowls, add some kibbles to the top, paint and decals, you have some hab domes or reactors or whatever. And three or four won't take more room than one and you can put scatter terrain inside!

Yes I am old, this idea interests me.
