Subject: Game of Thrones Season 5 - Hyped! [SPOILERS]
Sigvatr wrote: In general, at the pace we're going right now, it'd be hilarious if the series would spoil the end of the books, not the other way around.
This is already a foregone conclusion.
From what I hear, GRRM hopes to finish Winds of Winter to coincide with Season 6.
So, depending on how much TWOW material they choose to adapt, and how much material they choose to discard, D&D will definitely catch up to GRRM once again (Season 5 has already caught up to him bar the events of the final two episodes) or they will overtake him and start dipping into some of the material/plans for Dream of Spring GRRM sketched out for them. Thereby spoiling the final book and ending of the series.
Unless HBO decides to give us another 7 to 8 season of GoT beyond this one, the TV show will end well before the book series does.
HBO knows 'where' GRRM is going, they'll just get there by a different route.
And well before he does!

We do hope that it's going to be a long route. Imagine in 2 years, there'd be no more GoT D:
Honestly I only see another 3 seasons of GoT max. HBO doesn't generally run shows for that long as it is and I feel like 3 more is actually a bit of a stretch. The only reason I can see for 3 more full seasons is that the cost of the crazy is going to be high and getting revenue out of an extra season will offset that cost even with the production costs for the show in general.

They almost have to finish it in another 2 seasons...maybe 3 tops. They can't keep the cast together forever, right? And you don't want to recast major characters.
I wouldn't be surprised to see prequel series/stories, though. There's lots of interesting stuff they could mine.

Bit of a laugh that GRM will complete any more of the books - debatable if they will be worth reading unless he follows the series by radcially trimming the huge excess fat of undeeded and unwanted plots and characters in the novels.
As long as he keeps prevaracting he can have the best of both worlds - see how the series is received and adapt his writting to fit (or in his normal way adapt it to annoy people the most)
The show is already treading new ground in many areas - Dany /Tyrion is huge step forward - love to know who wrote their dialogue this week - awesome. The army of the Dead is actually doing something cool. Dorne is their only real miss at the moment -lets hope they can turn it around next episode. Even the Cersei walk is not a given - and she might have Margery as company as the high Sparrow does not seem the type to compromise..........

Do not even DARE thinking of getting rid of the naked walk!
If the High Sparrow was smart, he should release Margery. Margery still is, plot holes aside, beloved by the people and the queen. He could sell her as being cleansed by the Seven and thus forever secure the gratitude of the common people along with having a connection to the nobles as well who know that Queen and King are well-regarded upon by both the common and the fanatics.
At this point, though, both of us don't care whether GRM will release new books. Despite some downfalls (as above), the series just is more fun to watch and there were two really trashy episodes, yeah, but those are two episodes out of 5 seasons so far...compared to 2 of 5 books being terrible.

King Robert's Rebellion?
"The Song of Ice and Fire".
Starring...
Ned, Brandon, Benjen, Rickard and Lyanna Stark. Howland Reed. Prince Rhaegar, King Aerys, Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen. Elia Martell and her kids. Robert and Stannis Baratheon. Jon Arryn. Catelyn and Lysa Tully. Jaime, Cersei and Tywin Lannister.
-Start the film with the Tourney of Harrenhal. -Lyanna saves Howland Reed from being beaten by Squires. -The mystery Knight "Knight of the Laughing Tree". -Rhaegar wins and crowns Lyanna Stark the "Queen of love and beauty". -Catelyn is bethrothed to Brandon Stark. -Rhaegar kidnaps Lyanna Stark. -Brandon and Rickard ride to Kings Landing to demand justice...Aerys kills them both instead and declares Robert and Eddard traitors. -Robert, Eddard and Jon Arryn raise the armies of the North, the Vale and the Stormlands in rebellion. -Eddard marries Catelyn Tully to secure the allegiance of the Riverlands. -Ashara Dayne commits suicide (she's theorised to have been Eddard's lover, and possibly even the mother of Jon Snow. Or not. ). -Robert kills Rhaegar in the battle of the Trident. -Eddard rides to King's Landing. Tywin Lannister betrays the Targaryens by sacking the city and ordering the murder of Elia Martell, and Rhaegars children. -Jaime Lannister kills Aerys, who commands him to "Burn them all!". Eddard finds Jaime sat on the Iron Throne and claims it in the name of Robert Baratheon. -Eddard and Robert part ways after falling out over the murder of Elia Martell and the Targaryen children. Ned wants the Mountain executed, but Robert is pleased. -Ned rides to the Tower of Joy to rescue Lyanna. A fight ensues, the Kings Guards guarding Lyanna (Gerold Dayne) are killed. Howland Reed and Ned are the only survivors. -Ned finds Lyanna dying in a "bed of roses".
Promise me Ned.
The film ends with a storm raging about Dragonstone, as Daenerys "Stormborn" (Fire) is born, then cuts away to Ned Stark riding home to Winterfell with his bastard son Jon Snow(Ice)...
The end. A Song of Ice and Fire.
This film would be a blockbuster to rival The Lord of the Rings, and my favourite film of all time.

Subject: Game of Thrones Season 5 - Hyped! [SPOILERS]
Well...HBO would turn it into a full mini-series, probably. But it'd be a great story because it has both an epic sweep, and at its core a much smaller story about a ill-fated (or not?) affair between two people that sparked a sequence of events that changed a world.
Looking forward this coming Sunday episode. Either Jon going to submit resumes taking him overseas or he's relocating Castle Black further south.

It should be noted that audiences viewed National Treasure and Troy much higher than critics did.
National Treasure especially was a fun action-adventure popcorn movie that I enjoyed a fair amount. It was no doubt absurd, but it was also pretty entertaining caper movie. Troy, was overall an enjoyable movie for me as well. My inner literature nerd was disappointed by the inaccuracies of the movie, the Hector/Achilles fight made up for it... easily one of the top five movie sword fights.

Yep. It's a mediocre movie. Mediocre isn't "bad". It's mediocre. Nothing memorable, but good for an enjoyable evening. Mediocre. Not more, not less.

Spoiler:
Cersei isn't actually going to be 'naked' during here walk, as due to local outcry about the scene in question, Lena Heddey was wearing a skin suit when they filmed her (in)famous walk.

On the subject of Sean Bean dying in films there was an article and interview with him in Total Film magazine recently. He was having a laugh about it and had to choose his 'top deaths'. His favourite was a film called 'Black Death' where he was pulled apart by horses

I seem to remember Kingdom of Heaven coming out at a similar time, and that being a much better film.

I get the impression that you were a boy like Sam back in the day, got bullied a lot and are now over-protective about a character in a series.
