Subject: Game of Thrones Season 5 - Hyped! [SPOILERS]
Nope - Ramsey took 20 men out on a raid - went very well - there was no sign of vast amounts of cavalry however - they are not great in winter - but to be fair - Stanis's men were unlikely to stand againsat anything.
The 20 men thing was to prove his mettle. Go back and watch the interaction with his dad.
Damn this is so much better than the books
Agreed!
What do you mean? Ramsey's dad said that it was foolish to leave the walls - and only let Ramsey take a small raiding party. Where the cavalry came from is unknown?
The walk was well done - Big guy is fun.....
Still think its wierd no-one has mentioned Magery. The books are less and less important as we leave them behind.
Hmm yeah maybe the Doraki will join her - unless that happens or the Dragon comes for her - her fate will be pretty horrible as previosuy seen.
Jon's fate made perfect sense - if only he had a giant wolf wondering about with him....

So...which plotlines, if any, have not yet been caught up to on the show?
Brandon:
Spoiler:
receives training, has a few visions and spies on Theon in Winterfell via the Weirwood tree but nothing major happens. Other than Jojen possibly dying off page, which the show already spoiled.
The Wall:
Spoiler:
Wildlings go ape gak over Jon Snow's murder.
Dorne:
Spoiler:
"Aegon Targaryen" lands in the Stormlands and takes Storm's End. Arianne Martell (Doran's daughter - cut for the show) is sent to meet him and negotiate an alliance.
The Pink Letter would be kind of redundant, now that Jon is already dead. In fact I'm disappointed they cut it.
Arya:
The Meryn Trant thing was adapted from a sample chapter of the as yet unreleased TWOW and therefore brought forward in the timeline, but her going blind is from ADWD. Now that shes blind...
Spoiler:
...could her warg powers awaken? Will she warg into Nymeria in the Riverlands? Could Lady Stoneheart yet be introduced this way??
Meereen:
It appears they're skipping the
Spoiler:
Yunkai/Volanteen/Ghiscari siege of Meereen.
Perhaps they're replacing them with the Sons of the Harpy, who will in a sense...besiege the Palace/Great Pyramid itself, and Daenerys will return with a Dothraki Khalasar in tow? (Speculation, not a spoiler). Jorah may be getting parts of Ser Barristans arc. Or perhaps that'll be Grey Worm.
Riverlands:
All of it? The entirety of the Riverlands arc, including Jaime's travels, Brienne, Edmure and Brynden Tully at Riverrun appears to have been cut. However, if Stannis truly is dead, perhaps that'll free up Brienne to return south, and Myrcella's death may free up Jaime to go north.
Spoiler:
LADY STONEHEART??
King's Landing:
Varys...
Spoiler:
killing Pycelle and Kevan Lannister?
Have I missed any out?

The books and the show are now very different worlds and will remain so - it might be the books are adpated to follow but otherwise I don't see any of the many redundent plotlines you mention turning up in the show esp the Dorne bit.
The siege of Meeren was never going to happen like the books - the Slaver Lords are destroyed or in fear, the merchant princes were slain by the Sorcerers or locked in a safe to die. The show does not need that whole "stalling plot".
Also the whole GRM bringing main chacraters back to life was something he never did anythingwith - especially
Spoiler:
Lady Stoneheart
and weakens the whole plot.

yeah maybe - just surprised it was so much cavalry - not a good idea if you are preparing for a siege - except as extra food.....................

Like Davos said, the Northmen know their land, and they know how to survive The Long Night better than any southerner. Most of Stannis' men were foreigners, or from areas around Storm's End with no solid experience of the North. The Boltons were well supplied and had fresh troops and horses.
I think Brienne really did kill him and that Stannis welcomed it. - What was the line? "Do your duty."
In any case, I remember the thing that surprised me, was Myrcella being killed off.
I mean, I knew it'd happen eventually, but it seemed kinda weird. And a really dumb plan from the sandsnakes.
Sure, poison her while the ship is still within sight of the beach.... Which you're standing on. It's not like it's going to immediately turn round and get all your heads chopped off, or anything...

Who said the sand snakes were intelligent?
Their father was.
Them not so much.
Also thinking about it I am kind of laughing at that. Yeah that was the dumbest idea ever.

I'm thinking stupidity runs in the family. Oberyn did gloat over Gregor Clegane whilst standing within arms reach.

Gutted that Snow went to lie in the snow.. I keep thinking that Melisandre will save him, but then I remember thinking the same thing about Sean Bean ! !
Dr. What wrote:Lena Headey's eyes have one this season in my opinion. Going back to when the High Sparrow tells her that there's somebody who told him about her sins and her eyes dart everywhere looking for what the High Sparrow is talking about all the way to how well they show her progress through the walk to the Red Keep. Obviously they couldn't portray her thoughts from the book directly, but those eyes somehow did it.
She is an exceptional actress, definitely.
I would not want to be in the shoes of the High Septim, or that nun, in the next series.
Although Cercei had that coming to her, and much more besides
Regarding Jon Snow I have it on good authority that:
Spoiler:
He does indeed die and goes to hell, there to battle Andy Sandberg in a 7 day tennis match. What becomes of this epic showdown, and what the prize is, is blurred to even my prophetic visions.

right, so its pretty much a given that the red lady resurrects jon snow now that she knows stannis was a dead end.
I dont think stannis is alive, no real reason why he wouldnt be dead.
likely that arya will have some sort of daredevil origen thing to either un do or overcome her blindness.
sansa and reek, I kinda hope died, but I think they will live a little longer at least.
cersi is primed to go on a killing spree with the mountain as her main man, which just sounds like so much fun in of itself, zombie mountain is going to be buckets of crazy.
what was little finger doing all this time? probably something sneaky that will suprise us next season!

I believe he said he was going to wait for the battle of winterfell to end, then go in and finish off the winner since they would be weak.
Fast forwarded forward a few pages being there was a spat going on.
So not sure if mention but I am unsure or might have just straight out missed it.

hmmm... that makes total sense that little finger is just waiting for the "victor" between stannis and the ramseys to be weakened by the other enough for him to do something about it, but It would seem that the ramseys havnt really been weakened at all.
perhaps that, and sansas disappearance or death will be a wrench in his plans?
I half expect little finger to have something going on with vary's as well, but with those two you never really know

Unless Stannis swears to take the black and brienne accompanies him to the wall (its an oath she'd see through, in character) - and melisandre uses him as a sacrifice to bring back Snow ?
Either that or the opening scene of next season should be Sam coming back as a Maester, he opens the gate to castle black.... and there's ghost, atop a pile of dead Crow's, licking the blood off his paws.
Seriously though, where the feth was Ghost !? He stepped in as Sam was catching a beating, but not as Snow as being stabbed to death ?

Oh gak.
That actually makes quite a lot of sense. His oath fulfilled with death, he now can fulfill his destiny.
That's quite clever, that.

yeah thats pretty much what I mean,
a lot can change with Jon coming back and not having ties to the watch, because he died, and because they are the ones who killed him.
I wonder if his death affects how the others can interact with him, perhaps it gives him an edge somehow?
RE stannis, i just dont see why he would be alive... or how he could be alive, it was pretty clear to me anyways that brienne followed through and squng her sword through him even though the death was off screen.
could be wrong OFC

Jon is also a Targaryen? And that Ned, being a Good Man, rescued him from an otherwise awful fate?
You're close.
We know that Rhaegar Targaryen "kidnapped" Lyanna Stark at the Harrenhal tourney.
Spoiler:
Rhaegar was obsessed with prophecies. The two big ones for him were the return of the three headed dragon (he tried to bring this about with his children with Ellia Martell: Aegon and Rhaenys), the idea being that three Targaryen siblings would be power players, like the Aegon, Visenya, and Rhaenys of old, that rode dragons and conquered Westeros). He never lived to produce a third child and then Ellia and the two younglings were (reportedly) killed by the Mountain as a way for Tywin Lannister to win Robert Baratheon's favor for entering the rebellion only when the victory was assured.
The other was this "Prince who was promised," born from fire amidst salt and ash." Many think it's Daenerys, but Rhaegar believed that it was him or one of his potential children. The theory is that after he "kidnapped" Lyanna Stark and had sex with her, she became pregnant with Jon Snow. When Ned Stark finally found her towards the end of the rebellion, she was lying in bed in a pool with blood. We only know that she made Ned promise something, to which he agreed. He came home with Jon Snow after the rebellion and apologized to Catelyn for this bastard, but forced her to agree to raise him.
In the books, Maester Aemon reads the old prophecy and notes that they "prince" is written using the term for dragon, which has no gender, so a princess is certainly possible. This is a big part of why Aemon is so supportive of Daenerys.

Yeah I think that with what I have seen. I hope that when Sam returns he just finds all the nights watch members bones and a direwolf just sitting there with tormund the giant just sitting there saying "The watch is now dead, let it be reborn anew."
I am pretty sure the nights watch is fethed once the wildlings find out that Jon Snow was killed by his brothers for no reason other than they didn't like his rulings.
It would be funny to see alliser thorne get stepped on by WUN WUN WUN. And then see olly get thrown off the wall.

Melisande seems to be increasingly useless and just looking for an excuse to burn people. From her perspective (in the show not the books) resurrecting Jon makes no sense - he is just another failed commander whose part has been played........she'd be better off looking for another proven war leader - .............who wins.
She should have joined up with Ramsey and Roose - they would have enjoyed each other...............
Yeah I know he is a major draw for the female audience and there is loads of "book stuff" that says he is important but to paraphrase the hound "F%$K the books".
In the show there is no reason - apart from his popularity - that his story has not finished. The red headed wildling guy could now slaughter the watch and take over the wall / Jon's role quite nicely.
There is what 50 or 60 of the Watch left and so they are basically irrelevant and they know it - Jon's blatant favouritism of sending Sam off to a nice comfortable life whilst asking the others to die for the wildling was understandably the last straw. They know they are going to die and want to do it on their own terms.
