Subject: Game of Thrones Season 6 - The Discussion! [SPOILERS]
I think that Jon is well aware of his oath: Until death take me. That mantra was pounded into our heads over and over again in recent seasons.
Death took him.
Winterfell has fallen to the traitor that stabbed your (what you believe to be) half-brother in the back.
You have an army of wildlings.
Let's do this. He doesn't want to lead them to their deaths. He's said that. But I think if word of Rikon's capture gets to him, you can bet he'll be heading that way, along with the houses still loyal to the Starks. Again, everyone believes him to be Ned's bastard.
In the tower, I believe we'll see that he is Ned's Nephew, with a certain Targarian father.

I dont think its a ghost. He was very much acting like Jon would. Right down to committing the execution out himself.

I actually kind of hope Jon is the son of Ser Arthur Dayne and he is actually the heir of the Sword of Dawn, which I always thought was actually light bringer, the sword of Azor Ahai.
Plot twist!

There is some evidence (bearing in mind the OG Azor Ahai/Lightbringer was 8,000 years ago) that Lightbringer is the Sword for the Dawn
Spoiler:
Although I personally subscribe to the theory Jon is Ned & Ashara's bastard, puts him 2nd in line if he was a true born iirc after Ned (yeah they named the heir to house Dayne Ned after Eddard which is pretty weird)

Yeah, I don't buy Tyrion being a secret Targaryen. But at this point, R + L = J is the most plausible theory about Jon's parentage.

Ya I agree with this, I don't know where they got the theory that Tyrion is a Targaryen?
Also I don't know if this has been discussed here but I read this theory on Reddit about how Bran may have some impact on The Mad King.
In the most recent episode when him and the crow are viewing the fight with Ned and he is going to run up to the tower Bran yells and Ned stops to look around.
The theory is that possibly either the crow or Bran caused Aerys to go mad and kill/burn Rickard Stark because Bran trys to stop him by yelling at him and all the the mad king heard is whispers and then kills Rickard....
Possibly that the crow knows how the future unfolds so even though it happened before Bran was even born that he affected the past...kind of a stretch but who know something to think about

Aerys the mad King was a bit of a lecher and was known to harrass Tywin's wife and make lewd public comments about her during her time at Court in King's Landing, roughly about the time Tyrion was conceived. Its theorised that he may have raped her at some point, and the whole incident was one of the many provocations that contributed to Tywin's decision to resign as Hand of the King and return to Casterly Rock, then later join the rebels.
Its a much weaker theory than R+L=J because theres nowhere near as much evidence and foreshadowing but it is still possible. Tywin's mother was in the right place at the right time (King's Landing, when Tywin was Hand of the King for the Targaryens), Aerys had the motive (he was an insane King on a power trip), and Tywin was always adamant for years that Tyrion was not his son. Perhaps there was some truth to that.
I don't like the theory personally as I think it undermines the Tywin-Tyrion father-son relationship, and I'd much prefer it if Jaime and Cersei were Aerys' bastards not Tyrion (hence the incest, Cersei's madness and obsession with Wildfyre). Its much more poetic if Tyrion was Tywin's true son, and Jaime and Cersei were the bastards instead. Tyrion certainly inherited Tywin's ruthlessness.

I really hope not.. ... prefer that the Targaryians are somewhat inhuman and probne to madness due to their inbreeding that keeps the bloodline "pure".
The bloke in the tree is obviously lying about not being able to effect the past however.
Also do we really want all the mian cast to be Targaryians - its bad enough it seems Jon Snow is.

If any of the Lannisters are Targarian, it's probably Jaime and Cersei. It explains the madness that Cersei has and was past on to Joffery. And it also explains the fact they have sex with each other.

Joffery was just crazy because he's an imbred child who was spoiled as a Nobel son and had too much power for his own good...so glad he died a horrible death (the actor is such a nice guy in real life though he had a wonderful talk at a university)

First we have the Stark reunion, which doesn't happen in the books (at least not yet). Something for Stark fans to rejoice over.
Then Brienne says this to Davis and Melisandre.
"I was Kingsguard to Renly Baratheon. I was there when he was murdered with blood magic. Its in the past, but I don't forget and I don't forgive. Stannis admitted it you know, right before I executed him".

The episode for the most part was pretty good, I have a few gripes about how quickly people were moving (it's a considerable distance between Winterfell & the wall but Sansa & co make it in few episodes, the Bolton messenger in less than one. Also Ser Jorah catches up to Dany despite them only reaching Dosh Kahleen in episode 2 while riding horses)
GRRM It gives me a chance to clear up a common misconception. TARGARYENS ARE NOT IMMUNE TO FIRE! The birth of Dany's dragons was unique, magical, wonderous, a miracle. She is called The Unburnt because she walked into the flames and lived. But her brother sure as hell wasn't immune to that molten gold.
It just seemed like hasty writing to give Dany back her Dothraki horde & tie up the loose ends

not seen the episode yet - tonight
However re the
Spoiler:
TARGARYENS ARE NOT IMMUNE TO FIRE
- well they may not be in the books but the show is its own animal without the constraints of the books and if I am reading this thread right - its a certain special Targaryen - not all..... also
Spoiler:
Molten gold is not fire
It just seemed like hasty writing to give Dany back her Dothraki horde & tie up the loose ends
ie the opposite of GRM who tries to avoid tying up anything

I'm more than OK with that because, for the most part, Show GoT is better than Book GoT too!
yep the show is the better story and portrayal in most respects - exception Dorne.
Book Dany - younger, looks different (more like the original actress cast) - in the last few books GRM decides to make her weak, indecisive and extremely needy at the mercy of her advisors. Aparently because he wants a male Targaryian to be the main chacrter - or something.
Show Dany - older, looks different - at this point she is vastly much more in control of herself, her ambitions and is trying to make her own destiny. Her decisions are clearer and usually her own rather than being ofrced upon her. her relationship with the sell sword is much healthier - she makes mistakes but is not a doormat like heer book alter ego.
