Vault 81 is probably my favourite Vault. After all the ruined Vaults you visit and explore through the series, it's nice to actually get to visit a working Vault where the residents aren't actively trying to kill you.

There is one vault above all other, however, the death-claw vault. Old fallout, admittedly, but still awesome.

I spent prolly an hour in there trying to make something happen. Suspicious of everyone, never more than twenty steps from my power armor. I'm laughing at how let down I am that people are peaceful.

Just got done trading in Vault 81 for adhesives, very cool place.

Never thought I'd be so desperately scouring the wasteland for wonderglue and duct tape until Fallout 4

Do they have utility item/ammo crafting as well? I always liked the auto-stimpacks from NV (would automatically apply when you were low). And crafting specialized ammo, or just ammo from tin cans was always fun. I also really liked powder charges, cheap mines that were pretty good early on.

Does anybody know of a place where I can find some vanilla spare parts for the power armour? Looking at both arms and the right leg here that I still need for my military suit.

Everyone's already exploring Vaults and finishing the main quest, I'm still trying to reach Diamond City and desperately trying to find a Hunting Rifle ...

Damned be my attention span of a poodle when walking in the Fallout world. ... and well, I did level up yesterday because of how much stuff I've been crafting in Sims mode.

There's a chem workstation to craft aid items and ammo.

There's a suit near a crashed vertibird roughly northeast of Concord, west of the big satellite dish. That's the only other unoccupied suit I've come across so far.

One in the National Guard armory. And I think I picked another up in West Everett Estates. Both are BIG fights so don't go in lightly. Both are just north of the river where the USS Constitution is landed/crashed. Another on top of a dish in the USAF station Olivia along the northern edge of the map. Not a bad fight, and sniping helps. You can steal a suit of almost complete T-60 from the Atom Cats in the Southeast but I wouldn't suggest pissing them off. They have a good mod dealer for armor. Haven't figured out how to make it available to me. Note I didn't tell you what sort of enemies are in these areas, since I don't want to spoil anything.

I have no idea if I'm anywhere near the story. I sort of forgot what I was meant to be doing and just went exploring and hoarding power armor. That hunting rifle does some work though. I still run around with three with various ammo and scopes. Looking desperately for more Vaults.

Just wait, I suspect that there is a new settler check every time that there is a loading screen/x in game time has passed as I have had a few people turn up.

I haven't got there yet either, I was on my way there till I got side tracked with Vault 81. Vault 81is on the way to Diamond City.

Has anyone's settlements been attacked yet? How strong can the attacks get? I've got 4 machine gun turrets, a guard and a gated wall set up at the bridge at Sanctuary Hills, plus a couple more turrets scattered throughout the settlement. Is the bridge the only approach or can raiders come from any direction?

Vault City was a successful Vault, so successful that they used the Vault to expand their city and it looked very nice. I had to forge citizenship to get in there and ended up being kicked out but it was a nice walk while it lasted.

Supposedly its related to your food and water production but so far I have been attacked once. The attack consisted of 3 basic raiders who were swiftly annihilated.

Hey guys, share away your characters. I'm curious if you are all looking wacky or going for a theme

I can't bring myself to get rid of my vault 111 suit. Since I can layer armor pieces on it, I can finally roam the wastelands as a Vault Dweller. Also, I remember it was mentioned in the prologue that she had a degree in Law. Welp, I sure as hell am doing my best

Spoiler:

My main weapon is called "The Negotiator". I'm pimping up That 10mm gun as much as I can and I want to continue improving it.

FYI - if you want to reliably pass Charisma challenges then you need to invest a lot of points in it AND (not or) keep some Charisma-boosting items in your inventory (e.g, clean suit, fashionable sunglasses, militia hat).

One of my favorite lines so far was near the start, when Mama Murphy starts talking about "The Sight" and the protaganist can reply with "don't give me that destiny crap".

Use that line if anyone offers to buy you a video game this Christmas

Well, after about an hour of trying, I can safely say that I'm not at the appropriate level to help the Minutemen take back their fort.

Spoiler:
There is a crazy dude in Rook Family House up north by Salem along the coast, do his mission or kill him, I killed him because the game bugged out on me, and you get the Reba 2 in his basement. He carries the Reba but you want to go downstairs for the Reba 2. +50% damage on Mirelurks and Bugs from a sniper rifle. Helped HUGE against the Queen. Mirelurks were giving me so much trouble too.

And if that doesn't work, throw a nuke or five.

I managed to get a new settler so now I am up to 7 for Sanctuary

I also fenced in the entire town and put in machine gun turrets everywhere

Also, do all the other settlements that you liberate become "yours"? A lot of them seem to allow you to use their workshop bench, but are you then responsible for building them up and defending them, or can you ignore them?

Also, this is my character's features:
Spoiler:

Thought she may have studied for a law qualification after being attacked by a gang and deciding that she could help get justice for others who had gone through the same thing. Hence she can fight and is out to do good things

Currently rocking a 111 vault suit under a mix of metal, raider and leather armour and toting a sniper pipe rifle (just got a hunting rifle so will be pimping that out next ).

They become yours, anywhere with an accessible red workbench is your settlement. I have 5 or 6 now but I don't see any benefit to them, I haven't build any shops yet though.

Yeah, it must. Yesterday, a while after I got my first tower up I remembered "Say, let me check if anyone turned up already"; 9 settlers instead of 5.

@SilverMK2 - Nice I'm still searching for a hunting rifle, but thankfully I love my 10 mm. I'm almost out of ammo after starting purging the Lexington car factory from the raiders, thou. Now I have to use their filthy pipe rifles D:

Also, this is a silly question considering I played a lot of F3 and some NV, but did it have a cover system back then too?! Against the raiders outside that same factory, I was having a huge (and fun!) firefight against several sentries, and I noticed that if I glued myself against the cover, the character would put away her weapon, BUT, if I pressed aim, she would lean out sideways or up (like the raiders) and I'd be able to shoot

When you hit around level 10 they become quite common. Mine is almost fully upgraded now

I have run into quite a significant ammo shortage unfortunately. I have lots of 5.56mm and .38 rounds (as I don't use them) but virtually nothing else.

Ammo has become a problem for me too. I'm using .44, .45, 5.56, 12 Gauge, Fusion Cell and Plasma.

I'm thinking of keeping a tricked out Pipe Rifle around just to use the more common .38 ammo, so at least I have something to shoot...
