Played my first game of battletech alpha strike. I will be playing again and as often as possible. 22 mechs total. 2 hours. Standard game. 400 points. Inner sphere company versus clan binary.

THIS is how rrt felt when i played it. To bad we have zero units beyond the generic wave one items.

Next game we are looking to use some of the advanced rules as well as adding in combat vehicles.

It really don't matter anymore... I am sure after three years all the kick starter money is gone. So they are trying to find the cheapest alternate possible.
Instead of using Ninja Division's plan that was 98% done.. Kevin had his own ideas... I am sure his control over the project is what killed it.. It is a matter
of trust.. Don't try to understand the complete inter workings of mold injection .. get someone that does it well and pay them.
I'm afraid what we will end up with is something that looks like the 80's manufacture because that is all he can afford at this point if they don't file for
bankruptcy first.

That is what scared me so bad about the savage world rifts kick starter.
You know good and well... Kevin WILL get involved wither he is needed or not..
and the delays will start to add up.. and they will never do a kick starter again..

Folks were warned about palladium's involvement in the SW Rifts (in case they were blind, deaf, and dumb enough to not notice it themselves) and yet they pledged...alot. Heck, even loud supposedly disgruntled backers like the infamously rollercoaster in his love/hate for palladium Jorel backed it as if there somehow was a distinction just because Palladium wasn't getting ALL the money but only just some of it. They'll do another kickstarter when and if they feel like it but only then; the decision or success won't be reliant on angry backers of a previous failed kickstarter as we're inconsequential in the grand scheme of things compared with fan friends.

Here's how I look at things, every year that ticks by Kevin is getting older and he's already in somewhat poor health from diabetes so he's not going to be able to keep this turd pinched together forever. Eventually he's going to have to drop out of running the business or he's going to kick the bucket, at that point we'll finally see some sort of movement good or bad. Most likely the company will fold and it'll be the final nail for all those that are hoping against hope that it gets completed, or through some miracle somebody steps in and takes over the company and finally gets stuff rolling. But given how central Kevin is with Palladium I really don't see it continuing if he has to step down or dies.

At this point, I'd rather take my odds with the devil I don't know, given the total lack of results from the devil I do. (NB - I don't count empty promises of "soon" as a result).

Kevin dies what employees or fan friends there when he does will take off with whatever they can carry and vanish into the night.

Alpha Strike is quite good but I really don't like that they lump weapons all together into one stat. I have both the main book and the expansion. What it never does in Battletech is make a unit with a great pilot harder to hit either. I laid down my Battletech stuff with RRT. I won't got back to either.

I'm sure old Wayne has a carefully built list of what to start throwing in the trunk of his car the moment Kevin hits the ground.

Hell, some of the previous Crisis Of [Fill in the blank] might have been caused by Kevin having some indigestion and Wayne starting to loot prematurely.

If that were the case, we'd have heard of the new Crisis of Art Theftery 2 after one of the employees started prematurely looting the fridge of awesome doodles when Kevin broke his scribblin' arm.

I doubt anything like the above will happen when Kevin leaves or retires. Wayne and Alex probably have years worth of nail clippings and hairbrush samples to sell to fanfriends and pad Xmas grab bag supposed values. Those holy relics of the Great and Wonderful Kevin should keep them comfortably bird watching and copypasting for years to come. I've heard that gak will sell like hotcakes on amazon! In the meantime, no one will care about Robotech backers or bother to keep them properly updated or god forbid "rewarded" as promised.

Would be cool if someone convinces him to sell the designs privately or via shapeways xD
Albertorius, go ahead, try please! others too

@Talizvar: thanks! I think they look cool too! And match pretty good with the originals

@Stormonu: No, those are the official cards. And not home printed. I went to a advertising store (who also printed my mats for wargaming) and asked them to print my cards and for my friends. The cards were kindly transfered to me by Mike. He stated in this very own thread that he has the original files (because the help he gave to PB and Kevin in designing and testing RRT) and all that we must do was to ask. (pag. 36-37 of this thread) so, I asked

The cards that Mike has updated to be more efficient are the same as these. But these cards match with the ones I already have, so regardless that Mike's updated cards are better I choosed to use the same cards for aesthetics reasons. I already had my RRT cards in ultrapro sleeves and didn't want to have a mix of different type of cards.

@JohnHwangDD, sqir666: Thanks!
I have the files. Mike gave them to me. Go ask him for the files or download the updated cards he made (on his signature there's the link to his googledrive)

And no. I'm not even saying a word about last non-update.

PS: No one has added RRT to kickscamed yet?

The "Cool Stuff" sale is nice if you want some Glaugs and pods.
$66 for the box set is looking a little better.
Sure makes the VT pack for $25 look silly.

Oh well, another week.

Ah, I know it well.
The wife keeps looking at hobby money and time as a means of gauging my love: the more she gets and the hobby less = all is right and "balanced" in the world.
And people wonder why there is legitimate need for off-shore accounts.

I find 'hidden' to be good enough, no need for off-shore.

And the very idea that I ought to be spending less on my hobbies and more paying off my debts, preposterous. Ought to be grateful that I no longer increase my debts to pay for my hobbies, I say.

Wow, $10 for the Command and Battlepod packs on CSI.

Sort of a mixed bag; if I cared enough to get more, that'd be a decent price (though buying cores remains the best price per model if one isn't looking for large quantities of one thing in particular (or Artillery Pods/Spartan-Phalanx packs, obviously).

Of course, if more people were interested/driven, they might not necessarily be slashing the price like that. Looks like the Spartan/Phalanx packs remain out of stock as I believe they've been for a while, and the Artillery pods are fairly low but not far off what I remember them being a while ago. Those remain my casual glance litmus test, and if the 'rarer' stuff isn't selling, I'm doubtful the remainder are moving much either.

As for Kickscammed, I've pondered it, but feel that doing this bullgak justice would require a fairly thorough breakdown that I simply haven't had the time to commit to. I was going through the weekly updates grabbing the RRT commentary to build such a case a while back, but it got sidetracked, and as much amusement as I get from shooting the gak here with you folks, a more dedicated professional(ish) level research and citation rundown is enough that I'm just not interested in putting that much more time and effort.

3 months without an update is somewhat impressive. I don't know if that's the longest period between them (could be verified by looking at the KS page, but again, don't care that much), but if it's not it has to at least be in contention.

Not that there's any more value to a vague 'omg totally heating up!' Update than there is an 'omg totally heating up!' Newsletter, but interesting that they can't even be bothered to jump through that basic hoop of keeping up appearances.

And I concur with Morgan. Saying vague things vaguely that then vaguely fall apart is, imo, inferior to at least presenting some details as to what is going on, specifically. That would at least garner some credit for attempts at progress. This, like some of the better horror movies I've seen, lets the reader's mind fill in the blanks, and what we imagine is unlikely to be as kind to them as they may even actually deserve. It's of course possible that they're simply blowing smoke, nor am I prone to giving them the benefit of the doubt (obviously), but right now it seems like they're continuing to take the least useful path they can.

As is the PB way.

Just wait a month, there will be a dumpster behind the CSI
warehouse full of Robotech goodies.

I don't think Kevin realizes the backers aren't the only ones losing patience with this project. How many retailers are going to pick this game back up after a "reboot" once they've clearanced out or otherwise disposed of dead stock?

the Mothership...

I don't think he cares in the sense that he'll always have an external source that he thinks he can squarely put the blame on and he did his "best". Of course, his "best" consists of apparently lazily leaning back in his office chair for a few minutes every morning and brainstorming about how he can get someone to make it for him at cost judging from the actual results of the past two years. Then he goes back to stream of consciousness book editing/production/management and that day's blame assignment.

The "relauch" is a joke without wave 2 and, more importantly, a waste of OUR crowdfunded money that should be spent on developing the products and producing the rewards. It wasn't supposed to be used for extra retail stock, expensive promos aborted due to incompetence, or relaunches that should never have been needed in the first place. Like I said earlier, I expect it to consist of the SDF-1 fig as a special promo that we, as valued backers, can buy for extra keep the lights on cash money plus the pdf freebies that were promised and mostly done mid last year. Other than that, we'll just get the usual rousing speech about getting out there and volunteering *OUR FREE* time to raise the awareness about their game. Oh, and after the "relaunch", mass bannings across facebook and the megaversal forums will resume until morale improves. *called it!*

Has anyone seen the Mecha Collection figures for the new Macross series? They are SU-47's instead of F-14's, but damn sexy. At $5 per mini, they could work as elite units. They are wildly out of scale with RTT, of course.

All in all, a better product than PB is likely to deliver.

I suspect Kevin views retail the same: nice to get the occasional order but better to cut out the middle men.
Look how they undercut them at the PB store!
No wonder nothing is selling: they are taking advantage of Kevin's "better nature".
Direct sales is where it's at.

BTW found someone at the FLGS who backed RRT!
He freaks me out a bit, I think he is a furry... can I afford to be judgmental and choosy? ....... yeah, I figured not.

Two conditions happen here:
I advertise on the FLGS facebook page, then show up with everything and pray someone cares.
#2 is having indulging friends who are willing to play and then I in turn, play their oddball games.
I have maybe played some 20 times I think?
I still feel like a heel for not having a go playing at Anime North but I was afraid I was going to "check" if Kevin's arm was REALLY broken
(real reason is having the wife and kids buzzing around: I think all told some $400 got spent by them alone...).
Poor impulse control is killer I tell you: it is best to remove yourself from the temptation.

My local scene is: 40k, Malifaux, Infinity, Bolt Action, Battletech, X-wing, Warmahordes, Pathfinder, Magic the Gathering and insane hard-core modelers.
They are all a reasonably good and happy bunch but we all have our... quirks... some worse than others.

Picking up a package today! Hazzah! Gosh-darn government wanted their ~$50 though... the nerve of them!
The Zentradi get reinforcements today, oh it is going to hurt to be UEDF.

Are Canadian import tariffs on toy soldiers that high or did you order the entire Botoru Squadron worth of Zentraedi?

Just look on the bright side... you've got an order of magnitude more games than most people posting here. What proportion of games out of curiosity do you think were versus captive tit for tat friends versus curious strangers? Did anyone voluntarily pick up the game themselves or as a result of the demos?

It was a combination Talizvar/Nesbet order so yeah, it was a fair bit of toys... a "few" hundered dollars.

About 3/4 friends, 1/4 strangers.
It is funny though: my friends like playing Battletech so it made them all the more hungry for playing Alphastrike.
Anyone who played, liked the game, it was at least a willing rather than captive audience.
Unanimously none of them wanted to put together the UEDF models once shown.
There was the question posed that since I did such a nice job, could I do the assembly?... um, kinda, not really... no.
Did anyone voluntarily pick up the game themselves or as a result of the demos?
That would be an uncertain thing: I caved and bought the ONE starter box that sat in the FLGS for over a year.
Guess if they restocked or not? (No).
I still see a box of pods and the command box at the larger retail FLGS that has sat for about six months.
They did say they sold some six starter boxes there... should have had them get name and number with each purchase.

Good questions, I never gave that all much thought.

This is pretty typical, and there is nothing wrong with converting a skirmish battle game to a boardgame.

Also, yes, to take turns playing what others bring.

Yeah, some people collect for collecting sake. I know a few with thousands of minis. Most unpainted and that will never get used.

OTOH I love Robotech and Battletech. I like the Alpha Strike rules but loved much of the RRT stuff more. I did not want to be stuck with using minis for one or the other and so I adapted to something new. I just hope going to the local convention in August and demoing my stuff will yield some positive results.

Yeah, I'm one of those who collects for collecting sake - although every once in a while I take them off the shelves and make engine and pew-pew noises so I feel like I get some worth out of them other than staring at them. Sometimes I actually play games with honest-to-goodness rules. RRT isn't one of them though (though Battletech is).

It never ends well
