One thing about the chaos gods is that they were always in balance between the four excesses, with the rise of the horned rat and the potential fall of slaanesh this puts them at a bigger disadvantage when acting as a combined whole. Something that would be cool if developed in the fluff.
Also im wondering who if any of the previous incarnates have survived and also risen to godhood. (And and still hoping manfreds made it through along with settra)

That would be wierd, as Malal's most famous champion was human (Kaleb Daark), and then there was a Malal Sorcorer (Heinrich Bors), and then there's Skrag the Slaughterer, an Ogre Maneater. Not really any Skaven stuff that I can recall.
Indeed!

"For enough Ur-gold, the Fyreslayers will fight anyone.
The first strikes of the Stormcast Eternal were against the Chaos foces in Aqushy. Yet other forces rose up to battle also. the flame beareded Fyreslayers emerged from the mountains, marching down the ironways. While Sigmar had alwasy counted the Forge-Father Grungni and his offstpring amonst his closest allies, these Duarddin worshipped the god Grimnir, and were far more mercenary. They fought against Chaos, but only for payment in Ur-gold. More disturbing still, if a counter-offer was generous enough, the Fyreslayters would just as willingly fight alongside Chaos armies."
Apparently pictures with Lady Atia as well.

This weeks WD? if so its worth getting i guess for fire dwarf info

I still get the feeling GW are cribbing (edit: their dwarfs. They're definitely cribbing 'aelfs') from other sources, though...

I get this image in my head, for better or worse. (And yeah, fire giants, but broad, stumpy, bearded, dwarf-proportioned fire giants)

GW isn't creating much that's IP-defensible, but their attempts at doing so (and likely belief that they have succeeded) are simultaneously amusing, cringe-worthy, and really really lame.

I'm not sure aelf can be trademarked. Isn't it an actual word in Old English? Or does that only count if you use the proper orthography?

Not sure. The word I am familiar with in Anglo Saxon is ÆLF, which I am sure they will try and claim is not aelf. In the world of legal nonsense they are probably correct.

As Ghaz indirectly points out, you have to go pretty far afield in the genre of fantasy literature to come up with an original idea for the name of a race.
(Michael Moorcock's "elf" analogs were called Vadhagh and human analogs were called Mabden in the Corum series, and he did that 44 years ago.)

If words in modern English can be trademarked (or any modern language), why not words in an old language?
And, of course, a trademark is always within a context.
Apple did trademark the brand/word "apple" for computers and electronics, but it's still fine if you use it to sell fruit, etc.. Apple also trademarked the french greeting "Bonjour" and city-names like "Chicago" or "Geneva" for a font.
Random other things Apple has trademarked: "Logic", "Numbers", "Lightning", "Pages", "Sand", ... Lots of great stuff there.

But that context has to be new. You can trademark Apple brand computers but not Apple brand apples. Aelf brand aelfs do not qualify.

Sigh. GW are not trademarking, they are differentiating their product.
It's creating some odd names but it's clearly what they want to do.
A Kid's parents goes into a Game store and asks or Orruks or Oggers and gets offered A. N. Others Orcs or Ogres then they probably aren't going to buy them.

The Hornet Rat is a mix of 'Not as planned' Tzeentch and Nurgle. For rats. Not exactly a proper replacement for Slaanesh.

In light of the new fluff, I wonder if we can chalk up Malal to being the 'Sigmar' of a previous world's human civilization. His decline and eventual disappearance could be the result of a long and disastrous Age of Malal realmwar.

It's over guys, Apple's trademarked carbon, we have to pay them to exist.

Also the Horned Rat being a big Chaos God seems... odd, he's basically Nurgeentch (with fur).

Are you saying the greatest of Rats is redundant? you do know he can hear you right?
Anyway yes he shouldn't replace Slaanesh but hes got a previous place in lore that at least he had daemons at one point not like goldenboy with his stupid hammer fetish gold minion things

Slaanesh's fate is actually unknown. S/he MIGHT have been captured but the plot explicitly states his followers don't know what the heck happened. They think it's Malerion's (Malekith? Tyrion? Both fusion danced?) doing, though.
Personally I'd like it if Slaanesh was that maiden that Sigmar found, possibly purposefully just trying to take a vacation (because Slaanesh actually canonically didn't want the end times to happen) rather than corrupt Sigmar's realm (sadly it's likely the latter)
