Not where I should be

Well ok then here goes.....

Cotton buds and cocktail sticks.....Bamboo forest right?

Take some cotton buds.....

Cut them up a bit, and cut up some cocktail sticks....

Then cut the tubey bits up at an angle...

Stick them together...

Repeat.....lots....

Carve a base in some insulation foam....

MMMM but there no weight in it....I know I will mould up and cast a couple...

Drilled holes in it for the sticks to go in.

Current state is primer....

So the race is on...got no chance against the amazing work here, but willing to show what can be done simple like.

I can't remember what I've commented on recently so I'll settle for the catch-all; good work everyone.

Lots of nice ideas and progress happening. Lurking with interest.

Had other projects occupy my the last two days, but managed to slip some work into that time.

The bucket....

Used a pin vise to drill a hole through most of the wooden dowel.

Completed

The used a hobby knife to hollow the rest of the bucket out and carve in the "plank" lines.

And there is the completed rake.

So once I resolve my "rope" issue I can get the roof glued on and then begin the basing.

That's looking pretty effective there, Cam'.

Good progress, Games'. Rake looks nice.
The main problem with "rope" at scale is making look like it has weight.
Depending on the material of choice, there are different ways to solve it (most of them involve gluing it down).

Ok, I thought I had an idea when I said I wanted to do this but my inspiration (and lack of wood) have lead me to quietly drop out...

H.B.M.C.- The end hath come! From now on armies will only consist of Astorath, Land Speeder Storms and Soul Grinders!
War Kitten- Vanden, you just taunted the Dank Lord Ezra. Prepare for seven years of fighting reality...
koooaei- Emperor: I envy your nipplehorns. <Magnus goes red. Permanently>
Neronoxx- If our Dreadnought doesn't have sick scuplted abs, we riot.
Frazzled- I don't generally call anyone by a term other than "sir" "maam" "youn g lady" "young man" or " HEY bag!"
Ruin- It's official, we've ran out of things to talk about on Dakka. Close the site. We're done.
mrhappyface- "They're more what you'd call guidlines than actual rules" - Captain Roboute Barbosa
Steve steveson- To be clear, I'd sell you all out for a bottle of scotch and a mid priced hooker.

Hi all,

I do apologise but due to RL commitments I am going to have to drop out of this one... Simply don't have the time to even look at the website never mind make or build anything... much to my annoyance!

Take it easy and best of luck to everyone taking part!

As my father once said to me : You cant polish a turd... but you can roll it in glitter!

Great progress, guys!

I've been distracted by other projects and commitments, but I was able to sneak in a little time to work on the house. Structure is coming together, and I should be ready to paint this weekend. (woohoo, 4 day weekend!) Pics pending.

Did some work on the pond! Got water lillies on, posts up and painted, textured in, a few mossy bushes and mushrooms (more bushes coming - see below)

Here's my last incarnation of bushes drying. I have a really hard time with these. Still working out a technique that works for me. So far, I have thin green coated wire I use and twist into a vague bush shape, white glue I dip it in and flock to make it look bushy. It still tends to clump off a lot, so I also sprayed it with a krylon adhesive spray I have for scrap booking. It's staying on a lot better than it did when I tried to use a watered white glue to do the same.

They always look great til I actually pick them up so we'll see how they turn out this go around. This is probably the third time I've tried to make bushes this way.

Not where I should be

That is looking spectacular.

Recently watched someone making trees and they "glued" the flock on by first spraying with hairspray. Then rolling it around in the flock. Not sure how sturdy that would be. But worth experimenting.

Progress update!

Completed assembly stage on the front and back of the abandoned farmhouse. Several of the boards are different sizes, to give the impression that some were replaced over time. There are also gaps here and there, to show how the house is falling apart and in general disrepair. I think I'm really capturing that run down, "ramshackle" look. Hopefully I can make some more progress this weekend (whoohoo for 4-day weekends!).

Sorry to see you drop out, but this is a busy time of year for everyone...

Some PIP on the tree and wall...

Still need to do some sort of stone capping for the wall, then move on to the base

Still stumbling along, not much work done over the holidays. Sat down and worked on the moss, soaked it in some watered-down glue, and stuck it in the crevices with tweezers. Painstaking process, not sure if it's going to pay off, but that's pretty much the theme of this entire project.

Sgt. Vanden- And now I'm a whale with panties. Can't see how this day can get any better.

Cheers GamesEtc, It's not turned out too bad for a first attempt...

Update...

Moved on to the basing (as I forgot to do the stone capping...)

Spoiler:

Annoyingly, I've noticed some areas of the tree where the twisted wire strands are quite visible and I should have revisited them with the filler/glue mix. but am going to leave as is for now...
