The name says it all really.

With the impending release of the new Jem and the Holograms movie, the question must be asked. In the 80's, who was the better singers:

1. Jem
2. Lynn Minmay
3. Cold Slither

I am open to hearing other suggestions. I know my choice, but what do you think?

Based on those selections ...

Jem. Truly outrageous.

Minmay (minmei) was a screech-owl compared to her.

I've never heard #3 - but a google search leads me to believe it was something to do with GI-Joe, so it bottoms out the list anyway.

I’ve seen a load of GI Joe but had no idea who Cold Slither was, so they must have been really forgettable.

The back of the original Robotech series was awesome in many ways, but with these long stretches on Minmay nonsense that is sometimes like an endurance test to sit through. So she has to get ranked lower than Cold Slither, I’ve forgotten who they were so it can’t be as bad as fething Minmay.

I get the Jem themesong stuck in my head probably about once a week. And not even in a bad way. So she’d have to be the clear winner.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

If they had made the Jem movie back in the 90s, then Janet Gardiner from Vixen could have played her (Jem) ...

(She HAD the same poodle hair and pretty much same wardrobe anyway) ...

There is not this idea.

Remember when they made that Josie and the Pussycats movie back in the early 2000's?

Because I'm not sure if I do. I think it might have been a fever dream.

Anyway, I don't remember the 80's at all, so I vote for David the Gnome.

Josie was actually a great movie, with a lot of cutting barbs at the music industry. Plus some catchy tunes, cute girls, and funny bits. Well worth the time to watch.

The running product placement gag in that film was amusing.

The Josie and the Pussycats movie was quite amusing. The actress who played Josie was my absolute fav for a while. Meow.

I would vote for Josie and the Pussycats but I do actually remember Cold Slither and they totally don't belong in this discussion.

Dujour means friendship. Plus, they had Letters to Cleo do some of the music. Always a plus.

I need clarification on the OP. Do you mean better as in "i like it" or better as in "well the others are worse"?

Personally, i'd have to give it to minmay. Her 'music' saved humanity, after all.

Okay, since you spelled it "Minmay", then I'm going to put her at the top of the list, above Jem and the Holograms.

Had you spelled it "Minmei", I would've put her below Jem, and just barely above Cold Slither. Barely.

*Hipster douchebag mode activated*

The difference between the two is that "Minmay" is the way the Japanese spelled the character's name in Super Dimension Fortress Macross. In Macross, Minmay's voice actress was a very good singer (I've seen her perform live). "Minmei" was the way the character's name was spelled in Robotech. In Robotech, Minmei's voice actress was a decent actress, but not the best singer. At all. Her rendition of "We Will Win" is good, but the rest of her performances are kinda lackluster.

Well, if you call the total destruction of the planet "Saved" I guess.

Was Josie and the Pussycats the cartoon in the 80's? I thought it was late 70's but I am going by hazy memory.

Finally, Cold Slither's song always gets stuck in my head.... perhaps their neuro-linguistic programming worked!

But I voted for the movie adaptation from 2001

It really is way better than it has any right to be. Somewhere along the lines of a less insane Zoolander.
