Right? It's like someone else described the old models to the sculptor, and they've hopelessly misunderstood key aspects of what the first person was trying to tell them.

I'm really beginning to think that the rapid expansion of the studio over the last couple of years has led to the recruitment of some decidedly average talent.

Well, there is also the bit about GW trying to make more "accessible" paint jobs the standard rather than the high end stuff.

Musculature has been a sore point of late because of that, since at least the Minotaurs.

I'm not sure how I feel beyond "JAZZERCISING WULFEN!".

I will admit I never really liked the old Wulfen models either (they were "okay", but not great, limited poses and a couple of the poses looked a bit derpy and the flailing claw arms always looked a bit off to me).

I also don't like the new ones.

GW have destroyed my passion for Space Wolves. They were the army that got me in to 40k back in 2nd edition. I do wish GW went more down the "gritty viking" path rather than the "cartoonish furry" path.

Here's hoping FW bring my love for SW back when we see their 30k efforts.

I dont see how a bunch of even CCier marines could find a usefull spot in the SW army.
Furthermore, I suspect they will have pretty basic rules, and then some neat bonus if you buy 5 or 6 boxes for a formation.

My guess is "loyalist posessed" in terms of rules and points.
But hey, perhaps they actually pull out some usefull CC rules this time around. At least SW have decent assault vehicles.

I was expecting sorta Werewolf-style Marines. Instead we appear to have wolf-legged cave Marines.

I'm suddenly reminded of how Dino-Riders ended in the Ice Age... that's not a good thing to be reminded of.

Fayic, what decent assault vehicles do SW have? I haven't seen anything besides Thunderwolf cav in any competitive lists.

In the old 13th company list, the Rune Priests had the psychic power to move their units around- which then somehow was given to generic space marines and taken from Space Wolves. As a SW player who is tired of TWC and not having the cc, the resiliency or the shooting to beat any of the new armies, I think GW needs to go back to that original list for inspiration.

The heck with helfrost, let Long Fangs take Assault weapons (5 meltaguns or plasmaguns) and let rune priests teleport them around the board. Give us WS4/BS4 bikes (instead of 3) and put 2 assault weapons in each unit, make our rune priests more powerful as they have been exposed to the warp energies for so long and to ensure they can get the teleport spell off when needed, let the wulfen units have FnP or given Wolf Priests the ability to confer a 5+ or 4+ FnP (its a joke how so many armies have access to 5+ or 4+ FnP and yet SW got a 6+ FNP).

I think I am going to pick up some more old school metals on ebay. I am not feeling real good about these models. I may use some of them, but it looks like they will need converting, I do not like the wolf legs at all.

Hmmm... I'm not feeling either extreme right now, need to see a HQ image assembled and honestly the sprue so we can tell how many options we have - not too keen on the overtly furry legs and muscular legs combo, but if you can match them up better so each model communicates various stages of mutation within each model that would alleviate my immediate concerns.

Likewise I'm wondering what role they will fulfill - assuming we're looking at 1.5-2.0x the points cost of a GH, (absolute estimation/wishlisting for all that follows), they will need to far outperform the role of BC, again assuming they only sport a 4+ save (significantly less ceramite, and what is there looks thin as anything). I can see them mirroring the idea of Genestealers, (for the love of God give them both the ability to assault from Reserve/DS), or Harlequins with some Battle Focus-esque move-shoot-run or move-run-assault ruling. Assuming in line with Murderfang lore that they're 'unleashed' they should reflect that in their rules.

I wonder if they'll have a rule to DS from the Warp, (and assault from as above). I personally doubt it though, as per the post-heresy colours fluff-wise I imagine they will be similar to TWC in that they've have been folded into the official structure, unofficially but will remain absent from official Imperial records. I'm okay with that rationale, and doubt they'd want mutated marines fooling around in the Warp now they've returned/been saved/revealed.

What does everyone reckon, £25 for 5 models? Scions are £21 for 5, Troupes are £24 for 5, and I bet they think we'll fall over ourselves to get these long-requested models.

Anyway, I'm staying optimistic - could be a cool unit fluff/rules wise if it comes close to the above... or it could be the mess we all envision!

Be still my aching sides. Ridiculous pose on that central model and the others look like they've taken the stupidest bits of the current SW aesthetic and amplified them.

It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. It's just a poor quality pic from a WD so I'd like to wait for something better before saying anything but... those look pretty awful indeed.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

'Bad Picture' is always what first greets these leaks.

To me, while not fully in focus, that one gives a pretty clear view of 3 Wulfen.

I really can't see how slightly improved focus would suddenly make these look better.

I admit I dont play "competetive", and will not go in to a tactics discussion here, but the stormwolf is a sturdy flyer with lots of room, lots of guns and able to lauch assaults from embarkment. Compared to the Posesseds options (as my original post did), thats a more than decent assault vehicle.
On the other hand, the dirt cheap blood claws already do a terrific job assaulting from storm wolfs as it is.

Because normally the first picture is a bad one ?
This one is so poor that you cannot even tell if the page is lying flat.
Cannot argue how gak they look though.

The Studio is not free to be creative anymore. Product names and designs have to be vetted by legal, then approved by finance. Bob from accounting is a closet furry. His "artistic" input cannot be ignored.

That's my point, though, if it's clear enough that you can already tell they look gak, why do you need to wait for a clearer picture to fully judge?

It's not just you, people say it all the time. However, I can count on one hand the number of times a model that's looked terrible in the first, so-called rubbish pictures has ended up looking ok or even good with better photos.

Maybe I should have been clearer.

I just can't get over the entitlement here...
First pictures are 99.9% always horrible.
GW always builds their studio armies with the dumbest & gakkiest posses possible.
GW always paints their stuff in the most clown'tastic cartoon colours they can manage.

On the other hand, some of us get to try and build an army out of a half complete model line that's only 15+ years old, with models that really do look like regurgitated monkey poo.
