I think it's very complicated. A different candidate might get those union votes back for the Dems. This loss could also galvanize Dems, who clearly showed some fractures over the Sanders thing. Why he wasn't the VP choice, I'll never understand. Except that it's Hillary.

Plus, we also don't know what kind of President he'll be, or even really know his governing ideology. Of course, it's possible (likely) that Pence is the operating POTUS. But who really knows? There's too much uncertainty with Trump and that's why financial markets are freaking the death out.

On the other hand a harsh crackdown on state-legal pot could be a pretty bad move in the long run. Those laws are pretty popular, especially with younger people, and it would pretty blatantly go against the supposed conservative ideal of "states' rights". A party that is depending on the angry white guy vote needs to be pretty careful about going after popular middle-class white small business owners.

Growers, dispensaries, and anybody doing a study on it. Medical is very much at risk. Potentially, this is a huge setback for ending prohibition.

Newsweek magazine thought Hillary was going to win as well. Like I said a few pages back, they're gonna have to burn all those issues they printed (many of which were already distributed) with the "Madam President" cover.

Well, her husband did create the school to prison pipeline, Obama was reported (but not really, it's only a definition change) to have increased deportations, She made that "violent super predators" comment, and the "bottle of hot sauce in my purse to appease the Blacks" comment. That really scared some people off.

No, but Sanders supporters represented every bit of energy and enthusiasm the Dems had. Of course, Hillary had no way of knowing for sure that so many of those folks would turn so salty and not lend her their energy. There was a very real enthusiasm gap with the two campaigns. I could see it here in PA. Big difference from 2008 and 2012.

It might not have made a difference. Kaine was a very safe, logical, and responsible choice, but her campaign seemed to need something in the other direction. I dunno.

Man the last few states are taking forever to call it for whomever... PA is stuck at 99% and Trump is leading by more than 60k...

Yeah, the ACA has helped alot of people. They will face a hard time getting rid of it.
Also, the Senate is pretty Neck & Neck, and there is possibilities that some republicans can swing towards favor of fixing the ACA.

Per the local news, there were people still in line in north Philly hours after the polls closed, still waiting to vote. They cut off the line when the polls close, but allow everyone in line to vote. Perhaps there are some important precincts still out, but it certainly appears that Trump won in PA.

I think that under Obama... knowing it'd be vetoed Republicans knew they could rely on him vetoing it, thus they could claim that they weren't obstructionist, they could push that can onto someone else.

With him gone, they may realize that they need to do something *good* with healthcare, because it would definitely seem that the large majority of Americans want healthcare, view it as a right.... but outright repealing it would create some serious issues, and quite a lot of backlash.

For every story I have heard about the ACA helping someone I have heard 2-3 stories of people having to lower their coverage or pay the fine instead of getting healthcare because it became too expensive.

not solid evidence by any means but realistically I haven't seen any solid numbers on it beyond the MASSIVE increases in cost.
