Today’s work. Ujimushi, Ninja in training. He’s got a short bow and the ability to choose another ninjas ability at the beginning of the game and treat it like he has it as well. He’s also one of the cheap ninjas at only 7 points, most of the others are 10+points.

Still a lot of details to do on him, but he is coming along well I think.

Not really good ninjas if we can see them! Look! They're just running amuck in broad daylight!

Seriously tho, super great work! Also, Guild Ball! I'm still super salty about their switch to PVC plastics and bundling the teams into team-packs. Made it super difficult to track down/finish off some of my teams.

GCT makes some really beautiful sculpts, the older models like some of the monks really show how much better the sculptor has gotten.

Thanks Shaso, the wood I see a much overlooked/outdated material, just just so much fun to play with.

I can see where the switch in material is a pain, but if they hadn’t then I don’t think they could reach as many people as they do now. Metal figures are just so maligned due to the pains of trying to keep them assembled and weights of parts which fall off. It also really helped their price point which was another non-starter for their game.

Bad ninjas walk around in broad daylight with not a care in the world. . Plus there’s always one hiding under your bed that you will never find .

Ujimushi is finished except the base, trying to figure out what to do there. The previous owner of the figs had glued sand down and as his hand shows, they were not too careful of where the glue and sand went. Not sure if I’ll just cover all their bases with low scrub foliage or something else. Suggestions of basing would be very welcome here.

The new rules for Bushido are up on the GCTstudios.com website. Free. Git to it before the ninjas get to you .

Ninjas looking awesome. Hard to keep figures dressed in black interesting and I think you made a good choice with the highlights on their clothing.

As to the base, I think some scrub could fix the problem and would help with the idea that he is taking cover.

I think your right, but I want all the ninja bases to match, and the others are standing upright, it might still work out, but I’ll have to see how it looks on them too.

JoshInJapan wrote:I agree-- tall grass tufts would hide the stuff on his hand and make him look sneakier at the same time.

Totally agree on hiding the hands, just need to find the right balance of hiding and concealment with him and the others.

So for a silly Christmas idea I thought this morning about making my kids some ninja Christmas gifts. I have these super dungeon explorer ninja ambush figures that I got because I bought the expansion cheap for the two giant Oni figs. I figure I’ll make each one individual for my three kids. Sarah my 15 year old is intonations anime, sadly I am not really not it anymore, but I thought about doing this for her and figured the other two might like little personal gifts as well. So Sarah’s will probably be the second from the left of the screen and just be the warrior woman since she is feisty and fierce. Lilly my 13 year old will probably be the leftmost model, I’ll snip off the pistols and make some sort of Pom poms as she is a cheerleader. Zackary (also 13 as he is Lilly’s twin, older by 1 minute) will probably be the rightmost guy with two swords, he loves fortnight and I busted up laughing the first time I watched him play and he was running around with his guy wearing a shrub as camouflage, so once it’s painted it will get the shrub treatment.

The odd coloring was a hasty brush on primer that I did before I left for work today.

Well hopefully I can do them right, right now the one I have close to done only has white eyes.

I’m not a chibi fan at all, but these were left over models from a set that I bought to get two specific Oni figures. The Oni don’t look Chibi at all.

So I started with Zacks model. Not much to be done on it still barring eyes, base and shrubbery. Orange and bright greens are always part of his wardrobe when he picks his clothes, so that made it into the model as well.

Good work.

For chibi eyes, I can offer some advice having "recently" done some myself.
Look up examples.

Start with the white eyes.

Paint oval of eye colour, this can be cut at the top of the eye for wider, happier eyes, or span top to bottom of eye (just a coloured strip down the middle of the eye) for narrower eyes.
The colour can be a single colour or blended dark to light, top to bottom.

Then a black oval within the colour. Can be cut at the top of the eye, but not reach the lower eyelid. (unless you're really going for squinting and the like)

While you have the black out, paint lines across the top and bottom of the eye. Leave the sides white, they will almost merge with pale skin there, no shading required.
These lines will give the emotion; bowed outwards is more friendly, straight and angled inwards give an angry look.
Examples help a lot here. But something to pay attention to when looking at the examples.

Then a white dot or two for the light reflection. Place it within the black oval, but touching the coloured part.

Gloss coat to finish.

Nice tip on the eyes.

That's always the most difficult (yet most interesting/ appealing) part of those chibi models.

No chance to get any gloss coat, and might not finish in time , about to clock in at work and last minute headaches abound.

Where the chibi Mathews family ninja kids are as of now.

Sarah(15) is the least done. At least one more layer on her clothes needs to happen, fine details and eyes. The blue sections of her hair on the front are to signify how she dyed her hair blue this year. Thankfully it wore off pretty quickly . Twin gunning it as she is a fighter and most stubborn out of my kids (takes after me )

Zack(13) is done except for the basing, which is 90%(not palladium 90%). He wears mostly grey clothes with orange or green accent parts so that all is on his figure. He is the least stealthy of the kids so the bright colors fit him. I also have a piece of terrarium foliage which wraps around his figure to mimic the shrub camouflage from fortnights, which makes me laugh like crazy every time I think about it.

Lilly(13,Zacks twin) is done, I might Shane the little belt buckle to gold since she is our glam queen. If I get time and inspiration I will make a Pom Pom for her free hand since she is a cheerleader at school. She’s dressed in purple, gold(yellow) and white the schools colors and color of her cheer outfit.

Zack and Lilly both have metal head plates, not sure what to do there, might do their initials, but Sarah doesn’t have a spot for that and I don’t want her to be left out.

All need their eyes done, but that’s probably not happening before they get them. It will be an all or nothing thing. I’m at work now,.

I have to go clean church tonight after here to get ready for Christmas Eve service, I still need to hit Walmart for a few last minute items and food for tomorrow. We have a party tomorrow right before I go to work and I work both Christmas Eve and Christmas night with a Christmas morning brunch with my side of the family. I know we are all busier than snot at this time of year, but really can we postpone this?

Merry merry

Thanks Dr. H, the tips you gave were a great help and got me to push through.

I skipped out at the hospital early, had all my stuff done and not feeling 100%, plus it helped me get church and painting done and I might get some sleep yet before the party tomorrow and work again .

So final pics (a few touch ups here and there, already redid the ropes on lilly’s Sword sheath.)

Zack with Fortnite style camouflage

Lilly, I’m about to paint some black lines on the gold she is stepping on, decided to make the rock be her Pom Pom.

Thanks Maniac and Vik, hope you all had a wonderful Christmas as well.

Sneaky ninjas have kept their place in the painting cue, Katsumi the big bad high rice cost Assassin.

This guy has more weapons strapped to him than I’ve seen strapped to anyone in any Hollywood movie.

One more to go till they are ready for basing. So as any good hoarder would I ordered two more for the KKZ clan, it’ll take a week or so with the holiday, but I had an amazon gift card to cover them.

January will have my pledge for Blackwater Gulch arriving, so its a delivery race on which gets done.

Thanks Joe , I hope next year is as fun as the last few months have been with painting.

aku-chan wrote:Nice work on those chibi eyes!

Thanks Aku-Chan, not really my thing, but it was a fun change of pace.

Well we have a cleaning company at the house since we are hosting Christmas for the in-laws on Saturday. So I’ve been hiding in the basement and painting to stay out of the way. Which means the last of the Bushido Ninjas I have are now painted up. I present Shizuka, I did not give her fishnet pantyhose like on the GCTstudios page, but I’m considering giving her a smiley face on her pantys as there’s is definitely an upskirt shot going on with this model . It would be like those ninjas to try and distract guards with a little flash before slitting their throats.

So here is the Bushido wall above my paint table. I still have the one female monk to paint up. The monk on the turtle needs some attention to his blanket, and all the monks and ninjas need bases to get done. I’m very happy with what it looks like all together though.

Ninja Matoka and a Karapan (Ninja trained bird creature) are on their way. I might pick up a few more monks, but I think my western town and people will be the next real time and money investment.
