Agree, really not a fan of Typhus at all. I think I'll be converting a death shroud instead, and use the spare 2 with another box to have 5.

I think Typhus will look alright with a different, darker paint scheme.

I am more gutted about the sizes of actually all new Death Guard models. From what I could see, Typhus (and the Blight dudes) tower over everything (even over the ridiculously sized "normal" Death Guard Marines) which is older than this new release (99% of my 10k-ish Death Guard army) and while I understand the need to make larger figures to squash competition and urge people to buy the new stuff, it is still a slap in the face for old time players.

I find the recent releases very comical and more suited as villains in some children's cartoon, the aesthetic is far from dark. Ofcourse YMMV.

Death Guard Codex Fluff

Howdy Guys and Girls

Little fluff summary for the DG Codex - enjoy

Legion Organisation

The Death Guard are still a coherent and organised Legion as opposed to most other - in fact, they are now even more than they were at the outbreak of the Heresy, thanks to their resilience and harvesting of loyalist geneseed.

The Legion is divided into seven Plague Companies, who numbers thousands of warriors - utterly dwarfing loyalist Chapters. Each Plague Company has seven Sepsis Cohorts with roughly 700 Plague Marines each, and these Sepsis Cohorts are divided further into two Maledictums with seven companies each.

1st Plague Company are called the Harbingers and are led by Typhus himself. They love their Plague Zombies.
4th Plague Company is ruled by the Eater of Lives, aka Grulgor - cool, although it's weird he isn't leading the 2nd anymore.
6th Plague Company are called "The Ferrymen" or "The Brethren of the Fly", and they garrisons the Plague Fleets.
The 7th are Mortarion's Chosen Sons.

The Death Guard still uses super heavy tanks, drop- and gunships, drop pods aswell as Destroyer Colonies (Marines using alchemical weapons), although they have no rules for them - very cool, and far better than the old "GW Codex ignores fluff without models or FW stuff in their background section".

Timeline

- Starts with the Siege of Terra, although not much info is given about that. Death Guard are the only legion that manages to retreat in good order - for this they are gifted the Plague Planet, aka Barbarus 2.0

- Legion Wars are mentioned, taking some time and thousands of years shall pass where the Dg are rarely seen outside of the Eye of Terror.
- Morty and the 7th use Nurgle Orks (called the Green Death) to attack an Ecclesiarchy world. Yep, Nurgle Orks are a thing again!!
- Black Crusades are mentioned as plan to trigger the Great Rift. Morty sends his warbands to support Abaddon, Typhus fights alongside the Warmaster more than once.
- Battle of Kornovin aka Draigo vs Mortarion - only a pyrrhic victory for the Grey Knights, Morty uses the time to gather fresh forces and plots his next invasion.
- Siege of Vraks is in the timeline!
- Typhus infests Hive Pandorial on Necromunda with the Zombie Plague ...
- Plague in Commoragh

- Great Rift opens - Plague Fleets strike all across the Imperium.
- Plague Wars in Ultramar
- Waaaagh! Badsmak attacks the Scourge Stars - Morty defends them.
- Typhus duels and humbles Huron Blackheart, leaves him alive as a lesson in Nurgle's might and generosity.

- Saim-Hann gets attacked by the 5th and 6th Plague Company. Part of the Craftworld gets infected and cut off by ghost warriors. Nurgle Daemons posses the surviving clan members of that part and turn them into insectile half-breeds. Nurgle-tainted Aeldari Corsairs are a thing now!

- Morty banishes Ka'Bandha using seven corrupted skulls turned into grenades.
- The Eisenstein is sighted beyond the third moon of Lorn's Landing (what!?) and later Morty and his Legion invade the planet. Looks like this was the sixth time the frigatte was seen ...

- Typhus attacks Medusa and turns regions of the planet into cursed quarantine zones.
- 7th Plague Company attacks the fortress monastery of the Minotaurs and taints the gene-seed stocks beyond redemption. They are now on a desperate quest for survival, a crusade across the stars to reach Terra and access purified gene-seed reserves before the Chapter wastes away ...
- Morty and his Deathshroud survive alone against a whole legion of Necrons.
- Oh, and infected Necrons are a thing too ...
- Death Guard plagues are so toxic, not even a Tyranid would want to drink it ...

- Big battle between Iron Warriors and Death Guard, including Perturabo vs Mortarion. Morty wins, Perturabo is grumpy.

Regards,
Lady Atia

His pose is terrible. Myself and most I know just made a new Typhus from the Lord of contagion, nid scythe claw, and some greenstuff for destroyer hive. Much better looking.

size doesent bother me. Puts them on scale with new thousand sons and primaris marines. They would be large as they are all bloated/fleshy. What I do hate is the over use of tentacles.

The codex mentions all these races being infected and brought to Nurgle.

The Ork part was especially grim. It describes Orks descending onto a planet completely mad on hunger. They eat their enemies until they are so fat they can barely move and it describes them turning into slug-like creatures. Then they burst nurglings out and Mortarion lands to clean up.

Essentially using Orks as a biological weapon.

Dirty weapon configurations that are standard parts of the Terminator kit. How risque.

Perhaps some people are so locked into the terrible min-max optimising mindset that they forget the hobby part of the...well, hobby?

Schizophrenic loadouts look terrible in squads in the first place, because there IS no theme like they claimed. It's part of the reason Tactical Marines not only do badly in terms of crunch, but also look bad on the table. So hobby-wise I don't think there IS a defense.

So we've seen this Typhus model both with and without the flies. Suppose that will be an option or did we just see an early version of the model?

Honestly, I'm tired of painting that smoke. I've never got it to look right. I'd love to leave off the flies/smoke if possible.

That's kind of what I've been doing based on the tutorial video they put up for the Lord of Contagion. But, I feel like the Ulthuan grey layer never looks quite right.

It's possible I've just done it too thick and maybe I need to do more of a glaze.

Also, the box/instructions for Mortarion suggest an entirely different method which I'm going to try.... I don't have high hopes. It seems like a rather tricky effect to make look authentic. Thats sort of why I wish I could just skip it altogether.

So I've been reading through the fluff of our new codex, and it struck me that hey seemed to have left a lot of room for new models to eventually come out, assuming this does well. I'm sure that'll be years away, but it's interesting to see. Particularly the various lords and sorcerers mentioned. I'd wager that someday we might get a codex with multiple preconfigured varieties of lord (contagion, virulence, poxes, etc) and sorcerer as well, without any of the modular HQs.

In fact, the idea of mantles and mortarion forcing his commanders to use certain loadouts best fitting their strengths seems tailor made for this. I honestly wonder if that was the original plan, and they either decided they already had too many character models planned for this release or decided it'd cause too much backlash, invalidating even more of people's existing DG armies.

The part I love the most is regarding the Minotaurs. Had a recent discussion wondering if the Minotaurs would be allowed primaris and now this blurb came out.

Very interesting. I'm sure the high Lords would just loooove to give their lap dogs better troops. However I don't imagine big blue will be happy when he finds out there is a chapter who is having a bit too many tussles with other space marines.

I'd love guilliman to just boot them out the door.

Try mixing a bit of dish soap on a palette with the Ulthuan Grey. It makes it a bit more watered down and gives it almost the texture of a wash. Alternatively you can do multiple heavy coats of Coelia Greenshade.

Do we think there is another one or two weeks of releases after the Blightlord Terminators? We still have three elite characters (hurry up Tallyman!), Plague Marines, Blight Hauler, drone and tank to be released. Seems like a lot for one week.

Will do! But what I'm mostly wondering is if the smoke effect and flies will be optional.

if you look at previously released artwork and the dioramas from the codex, there are no flies.

Now, for the preorder photo on the store there are flies.

The smoke plumes on the Deathshroud Terminators are optional, hopefully that is the case with Typhus.

Glad to see this Thread got unlocked, we have so many more releases coming.

I'm happy the blightlords, Typhus, and the foul blightspawn will be up next week. They really are dragging these releases out. I really want to see the plague marine kit. And we still have 3 more elite characters to get through, not including if they do separate releases for the characters from the DI set.

Now that Plague marines don't use flamers, and have plague belchers, I was just thinking how appropriate this 3rd ed. havoc looks now, as their flamers have big 'sacs' attached.

That's cool that Morty sold out! I hope my preorder for one got in.

For anyone liking the concept of Orks/Necrons/Tau getting nurgle-fied, you con always convert some up as pox walkers. I mean, you legitimately get new PWs when you kill a model.

I smiled at the narrative reference in the fluff description for Defilers. Something along the lines of the several legions/warbands fighting huge bloody wars to acquire the binding rituals for these constructs which only the Black Legion held. Not so much for the Death Guard though, Mortarion pretty much walked up to Abbadon and demanded it as a tribute which Abbadon promptly handed over with no fuss haha. Seems like the 'Warmaster' knows his place lol
