Agreed; from those pics its the Seraphon changes I'm happiest with so far. Gosh did knights need a points drop.

Those ones are much more recent, thus the step up in quality.

If Seraphon got some new infantry models I would start collecting them for sure. Love the monsters but infantry are too dated (for me personally).

See that's my one worry with GW having split a lot of armies up in that I can see it taking them a long time to getting back to existing armies for new model releases and updated sculpts.

Heck I really hope they combine some of the aelf factions otherwise there's going to be around 20 full armies of aelf alone!

The more time goes by, the more I want counters and objectives and the like to look like they belong on the table. I think I'd rather spend the difference between the regular and deluxe books on the objectives.

I'm sure they'll be useful, but I don't really want high contrast black and white circles on the table.

Grimghast Reapers are looking really good. The bell guy being a unit leader who beats you to death with his bell instead of a musician is surprising and comical though.

You did notice that the Extoller is the only one who isn't blindfolded? I like the concept of the Extoller using his Death Knell to lead the rest of the Reapers to the enemy.

The easy to build figures have colored sprues. I'm now convinced that they are going for a split model with Shadespire season 2 - buy the figures and cards separately. Though if they go like Dark Imperium, they may release a second starter set with colored plastic (and maybe a third with just the ETB models).

Speaking of soulblight, is it me, or some of their heroes are being squatted right now?

See, this it the thing that bothers me about new ghosts. They just don't look like undead. Compared to ethereal bodies and skull faces, their normal looking hands terribly reinforce the 'bedsheet ghosty' look. Compare it to old GW ghost with skeletal hands and the new ones are kinda lamed by that detail:

I like it when standards & music are also weapons or at least modelled in such a way that they wouldn't neuter combat ability. Blightkings are good with this.

Good to see the scultped bases can easily be made optional by clipping the stub on the detail and gluing them to a regular base. Too much sculpting for my taste as is.

Agreed, it's a bit jarring, but I gues it's the aesthetic they decided to pursue. I think the artistic vision is decently reflected on the battle-tome cover:



In the GW podcast the designer talked about how they wanted to pursue a bit of the horror genre with this army, and this may be a way to make the figures unsettling. There's a lot of flesh/bone/cloth/mist merger going on in the models, and a decent paint job should blend the 4 together nicely.

The warlord edition of the general's handbook comes with some really cool tokens. I might pick it up simply because those game aids would be really useful.

I was kind of expecting banshees to have some sort of shriek. I like that they eat magic though. Looks like they'll be fun.



What a cool effect! I know it's not some amazing ball of skeletal faced death or a bunch of flying swords or a giant orky pac man, but I really like that.

Also, I'm probably the only one looking forward to making jokes about the order I move things when sequitors are on the table. This Knight-Incantor will stand still instead of moving up with the other units. It simply does not follow.

Really wish LoS worked that way in general though.

Well that was an expensive morning. Actually, it wasn't that bad. The box, sorcery, GHB, the banshees and sequitors for £160 dead. It was a good morning.

Metric units! This truly is the end of times.
