Surprised I couldn't find anything about this using the Search function (Mods: please deelete if I'm just being dumb...):

Not affiliated in any way. Not even especially bothered by it. Just saw the link on another site and thought I'd share...

That's odd, I thought Warlord had the rights to Terminator. Never heard of the producers before, apparently they are a distribution company.

Warlord likely only has rights for a miniature wargame. This is a boardgame. But there is also a boardgame for the first Terminator movie from yet another different company.

I think Warlord just distribute the last Terminator game for River Horse. If you look at the Kickstarter page, this new one is River Horse too. To my eye those T-800s are the same sculpt, too, but the rest of the Terminator range Warlord do that are also here (the drones and walkers) are resin so I'd expect those to be new.

I wonder if this is an attempt to make back the money they paid out for the terminator licence/manufacturing after the tabletop game crashed and burned when the movie flopped

Some of those are current resin mini's riverhorse make, seems they are remaking the in "plastic" i assume this is boardgame PVC not hips.

Not that interested in the boardgame, but i like the original wargame rules. Maybe if this does well we could see some new models, I know there were renders of a resistance pickup truck which never got a release.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

This is the original thread for the River Horse produced wargame: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/629383.page. Warlord were indeed the distributor for it and have the starter set at 50% off on their website currently (£35.00) - pretty good value I'd say

Sadly, I think you maybe correct on this...

I loved the first half hour of that movie and it really nailed what I think people want out of Terminator movies, which is shiny chrome kill-bots fighting humans. This box set comes with lots of kill-bots, which really works in its favour.

I am really tempted to buy in just for the killbots. I love me some killbots.

Do they have an add on option for the drones? I'd prefer just to buy a set of the drones than the whole game.

If these are the same scale as the miniatures game, it might be worth picking up just to add new units.

Some extra bits:

ALC has launched JUDGMENT WEEK - giving away something free every day, for 7 days.
  • Wednesday saw the T-800 Commander added to the Resistance Box, and the Mission Generator Card decks added to ‘Fall of Skynet’ pledge level
Thursday saw a free T-72 Platform with Missile Launcher boss added to the ‘Fall of Skynet’
    pledge level.

  • There's also a bunch of social media goals for backers to aim for:

Have they not kind of missed the boat on this one?

I mean, Genisys was a year or more ago? And there’s another one in the works, which scraps everything after Terminator 2.

Whelp, looks like these guys really got fethed by the release of Zombicide: Invaders. No idea what possessed them to start their kickstarter literally days before the very well advertised CMON behemoth.

I give it a week before they cancel and say they are going to "reassess and relaunch in a couple of months".

The real shame is that there's not really anything wrong with the kickstarter, it's just so incredibly poorly timed.

I am not convinced that there will ever be a good time to release a Terminator Genesys board game Kickstarter. The film was very poorly received and River Horse have been criticised for sub-standard rules for previous board games here and on BGG.

What if they dropped the Genisys name and just made a Terminator dungeon crawl set in the future. I agree in that I don't see the "Genisys" brand really helping the game, but it doesn't really hurt it either. What interests me is the "dungeon crawl set in the future" part, and rules issues aside it certainly looks better than CMON's offering right now, which is a real shame. Besides, it's not like the Zombicide games (or Massive Darkness, basically anything by Guillotine Games) are known for their tight rules and exciting gameplay.

Fact is they're probably tied to the name because it was cheaper to get the Genisys license than it was to just get the generic "Terminator" one.

Actually, what's super weird about all this is the movie this seems to be based on is Terminator: Salvation, not Genisys.

Looks like those looking for cheap plastic terminators struck lucky.

ALC have added 12 extra plastic terminators, 4 T-72 platforms and the 1984 crossover pack to the Judgment pledge level, which about $85 worth of free extra stuff.

There's also Judgment Week, which have seem a bunch of extra bosses and special weapons added for free, as well as some game content like a mission generator.

It's 80% funded at the moment. Think it'll get over the line? http://kck.st/2H4ZQoN

Wish there was a miniatures only pledge to be honest as co-op games hold no interest to my group. Backed the original Terminator game that Lynvader worked on, and having seen some of the re-design work Space Goat is having to make to that game I would be a bit wary of their rules anyway.

The drones just look like inferior versions of the cheap HIPS ones made for Maelstrom's Edge.

    So... yellow flag.

Cryptozoic did this when they weren't reaching their funding levels. What ALC is doing, I'm guessing, is that they have sunk costs in the project which they hoped to recoup through overfunding with SG's. However, they're finding they can't make their funding (some EB's are still available), so *may*, essentially, be giving away stuff for "free" that they think wouldn't have been reached with SG's. If this is the case (and it still may not be), that's not a good sign, since, if they reach their funding, they're gonna have less money than they originally planned had these "free" things been funded through SG's.

Or not. ALC has a fair number of retail, distribution, and design partners, so we're not exactly looking at a two-man shop, here. Anyway, just more uncertainty to consider.

Few things put me off a KS than the creators throwing gak in for free in a desperate bid to get funded. Major warning sign there.

They look to be smaller and slightly more "aggressive" in design to me. As someone who owns a healthy number of MEdge drones, I'd still like to buy some of these, too.

I'd love to pick this stuff up to add to the TT game from Riverhorse (last year?), but with this "big" of a name and they haven't funded yet - yeah, that just seems like a really risky thing to back.

Well, anyways, I'm done with KS. If it makes it to retail, I'll consider it - for the models.

Well, speaking of the previous Terminator Genesys, I picked it up at a steep discount a few years ago. I've noticed that *if* you are okay with just the base game, and don't mind waiting for it to go on sale (or not getting it at all), the base game will be much less expensive than the pledge level plus shipping. Expansions I usually can't get at a deep enough discount that I might as well pick them up with the KS, though.

IP's are kinda annoying since they FOMO even stronger than some generic fantasy-themed dungeoncrawl KS. Also, I haven't found a good way to determine if an IP will be a hindrance to a KS (eg. costly delays from the licensor because of miniature approvals) or not (I've backed IPs that have run as smoothly as non-IP KS).

Again, these are rules of thumb, and you'll have to dig deeper in your research about -- and can certainly ask direct questions to - ALC. Do your due diligence!!

EDIT: Yep! FOMO = Fear of Missing Out.

    The Battle Barge Buffet Line

I hadn't seen any news on this so decided to follow up. Apparently no one / everyone will be missing out as it didn't get the typical tail boost in the last 48 hours. At least the other one I was following (Pacific Rim) didn't flame out too.

I can't help wondering if they might have had more success with separate pledge levels for miniatures only.

BGG shows four Terminator games since 2015. Space Goat was the first Terminator boardgame on KS.

You mean they weren't even in scale with their other Termiator Genysis board game minis?
