Haha, yeah I sort of figured it wouldn't be Tsarist propaganda.
My great-grandfather was one of Monty's 'Desert Rats' in WWII, a fact of which Mother Dear is impossibly proud and which causes arguments at almost every family event, since I take a somewhat dimmer view of Churchill sending his army to North Africa to protect British imperial interests while leaving the Red Army to get on with the actual business at hand.

Honestly, the Suez was Vital enough and quite alot of secondary fronts can make the secondary fronts approach very understandable, not to mention that a breakthrough could've ended with a axis mare nostrum and worse more oil for the Germans. Russia always had landmass as a natural advantage, problem is, that Stalin and his at the time completely paranoid staff were doing about the worst job possible for reorganisation and actually fighting back. (Not to mention that the purge did significalntly weaken the Red Army) BTW: For most of human History empires were the common form of living under a state, they are not inevitably bad and nation states showed just how capable they are in repressive policies imo. that beeing said british colonial rule get's away quite often without a critical viewpoint on it, same with the french colonial policy.

We aren't allowed to talk politics here, so let's just say I disagree and move on. I'm not in the mods' good graces and I don't want this to get locked. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I know I said yesterday that I was done with these, but when someone critiques what I've done and I agree wholeheartedly with them that means that they weren't, in fact, 'finished'. Since I'm currently sat on a train with my boss en route to Toronto, I had another stab at making 'verdigris' into proper agitprop. Two stabs, actually.   Kindly ignore for now that I have slightly misaligned the layers, the wifi on VIA trains is incredibly slow so I didn't fancy editing them and then waiting another fifteen minutes (seriously) for them to upload to the Gallery again. Do you have a preference? Do they 'read' as agitprop?

I faintly remember that the soviets did not use various textures but rather used bright uni-colors. I would take the one on the right side and make it just grey, respectively, just the background grey and the statue itself a thick Red.

There is teture in Socialist Realism art, but there's not genrally as much as there is in the posters I made.   Unfortunately there's a lot of texture on the base image and my GIMP skills aren't good enough to remove it.

now i see what confused me. If you compare the picture to the right, with the ones you made, the colour codation is not correct. Basically if you look at the propaganda picture, the only real colour that matters in that one is on the symbols, in red, whilest the rest is pretty mutely coloured. So basically, if you'd switch out the background colour with the colour of the statue, that would be more fitting.

I see what you mean, but as you'll see I don't necessarily agree. As with the whole Kronstadt/Kronstaat thing, the point is not to perfectly mirror, or even to validly approximate, Socialist Realism but to simply acknowledge it with a short nod. So I went with the yellow statue one, which I'm now calling Motherland (Yellow).  The distortion, FWIW, is caused by Dakka's Gallery compressing the pics. I haven't properly scaled the images yet because I'm toying with the idea of making real-life posters for my kitchen out of Forward! and Motherland (Yellow), so at the moment Forward!, para ejemplo, is nearly two metres wide and over 9mb. EDIT - Bozhe moy, this has over 4000 views now. I apologize profusely that so many of those have been wasted on nothing more than me yammering away. I hereby swear, on the Almighty FSM, no more rambling, agitprop or fluff until there are new pictures of updated miniatures posted.

Because if you are, that would make a great mural/ wall painting on a destroyed building no?
Probably should make another version for that as it seems strange to have such a wallpainting with the statue on it,when you allready position the statue.

I am terrible at freehand and unwilling to put the time in to improve my skills, sadly. Great minds think alike, though and the main reason I made Forward! was for a large billboard and so both Forward! and Motherland (Yellow) will appear on the board once in pretty much the same size as you see them here, as well as a few times in the smaller format. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Zarakynel/The Violet Heart WIP *snip* I had previously made painting Herself (again) contingent on finishing the Herald on Chariot and Hellflayer No. 5, but I had apparently underestimated my unwillingness to paint either, so She just sat there. Today, with a day off work and semi-suitable lighting available, I decided to sack off the Herald and the Hellflayer and cracked on with Her. This is as far as I got before bad light stopped play. EDIT - Those photos suck so bad they made me get off my Aris and go buy some daylight bulbs so I could have another stab at it. Enjoy some pics that aren't over-exposed to the point of meaningless.

Did someone call for an Earthshaker?  And work progresses somewhat on Mamayev KurBen  two wily Wulfen washing their wolfy willies. Kindly donated by Private Benjamin (Mamayev Kur Ben, geddit?), who got them as spares in a bitz deal, as I understand it, these guys will be two of the four statues ringing The Motherland Calls!. Today is the beginning of their third day in acetone NPR and paint is still stubbornly clinging to them. I need backpacks for them but the only bitz sites I know are U.K.-based and I don't want to pay transatlantic shipping for literally two bitz, or to support the British economy in any way shape or form, so does anyone out there have two spare Space Wolf backpacks I can buy from you?

Actually a friend of mine is getting rid of his Space Wolves.
I can ask if he has some backpacks (I'm almost 100% sure he does) laying around. I could send them to you!
Pronouncing wise: If we are talking finglish, it's "slaanes" (without the h) or sometimes just "slaneesh".

You have their backpacks? I assumed they came without. That would be crazy helpful. Again, let me know how much postage is. Maybe you'll actually let me pay it this time, haha.
As these guys are metal, I bought a bottle of nail polish remover, with acetone, from Dollarama and threw them in that. I've never had it take this long before, but it is working. For plastic miniatures, I used to use acetone-free nail polish remover which is cheap and plentiful over the pond but over here I use Simple Green, which you can get at basically any hardware store. I've also had good results using an ultrasonic cleaner and isopropyl alcohol on really stubborn ebay rescues painted with enamel paints. The only resin mini I've ever stripped is Herself and the paint basically fell off of Her, so it doesn't really count.
Of course, I'm dumb and my initial clean up attempt on the Wulfen used a plastic toothbrush and of course the acetone melted the plastic, which hasn't helped matters.

I'm pretty chuffed with how The Violet Heart is working out, given my amateurish painting skills and reliance on drybrushing. I'm working all weekend, which blows, but which also means that I have another day off today so the plan is to finish Her off, glue the missing spikes back on and crack on with the Basilisk. I know that I should do the soldats first, but [Expletive Deleted] it; Christmas innit? As much as I have loved putting together the Daemon part of this 'soup', I'm pretty sick of painting purple and I'm pretty sick of charging face-first into gun-lines that haven't been softened-up and I'm pretty sick of almost missing an entire phase (six 6" range Lashes of Torment is my entire shooting phase) so it's time to wholeheartedly focus on the Kronstaat IV Worker's Defence Force (or Worker's Defence Army, as the poster says 'cause I didn't know how to translate 'Defence Force) and their firepower, because it's not a proper cavalry charge unless there's been an artillery barrage.
Also because my Basilisks, (of which there will eventually be six, natch) tie back into the whole Red Army/Eastern Front/Soviet thing and I'm excited about that, because nerd. Depending on where you're from and how you learned history, you may have heard of Battery-30 and Battery-35, which were huge coastal defence guns in Sevastopol. You may have heard them being called the 'Maxim Gorky' fortresses, but honestly you should beat anyone calling them that to death with their own shoes. Anyway, they were a massive part of the reason Sevastopol held out much longer than anticipated and accordingly played a small, but significant, part in the eventual collapse of the 'Eastern' Front, plus 'Violet' was born and raised in Sevastopol, so... the first three Basilisks will be Battery-30 and the second three will be Battery-35 and with them I shall smite fascists, as is proper and correct.
EDIT - Also, Sevastopol transliterated to Cyrillic is Севастопол and the 'Star-Port' in my previously published picture 'The Battle of Cebastopol - Pincers', which is itself ripped-off of the title of an episode of The World at War, is in fact a depiction of the city limits of Sevastopol I found on a stock-image website.

Again, thanks for your comments. It's very rewarding to know people enjoy your stuff. ------------------------------------------ Anyway, so work begins on Батерея-30/Battery-30/First Percussion. For some bizarre reason the Basilisk box only has a Heavy Flamer for a hull weapon and frankly if the enemy is that close then you're already dead so I've bunged a magnet in there and will sort it out later.  and there's also a couple of magnets about the Earthshaker carriage so that it can be Blake Lively for transport  and Krysta Kaos for battle  But I have a problem. Assembling per the instructions leaves the back-end looking like this  and this bit, which is not referenced anywhere in said instructions, left over.  I'm sure the two are connected but I can't make it work and though I did find a reddit thread where someone mentioned this, they didn't go into detail about how they fixed it (or if they did). So... help? As a bonus, the Imperial Guard Tank Transfer sheet, which I didn't realize was still a thing, contains some gloriously on-point decals for the K4WDF  According to the rumours, Chapter Approved 2018 is going to knock about 300pts off my 2k list. So that's good, but Zarakynel is still stupidly expensive, so that's bad.

It's been a while but I'm pretty sure this
Covers that back gap, the lip glues to the bottom and then it sits at 45 degree angle, if that makes sense.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also it looks like you made the bottom of the hull too long. There's 2 peices for a Chimera you install both but for a Basilisk you just use the front plate, then the short one.
I just did some backless Chimeras to count as Centaurs, this I think is what your hull is supposed to look like before you put on the T shaped artillery deck.
Ignore the big ammo box, its on top of one of those short pieces.

If I have made a mistake in the assembly, then the instructions are super, super messed up 'cause I followed them religiously and there are no significant-looking pieces left over. My current thinking is that I'm going to have to do some hacking to make it fit.  I think if I take those two little nubs off the back there, the plate will fit. Thankfully the Earthshaker platform isn't glued in yet, so it won't be too much work.

I think that back part must be what it is for. Out of curiosity I dug out my basilisk that i put together... 15 years ago? And my solution to that back gap was much less elegant. I covered it with treads.
The plate makes a lot more sense.

Here are the facts: At 0100 forward patrols entered the Diatlov Pass. At 0135 long-range comms failed. At 0245, forward patrols found the Chimeras of Tikhonov's Battalion seemingly hastily abandoned. They found no evidence of damage to any of the vehicles. At 410 they began to discover arms and armour, apparently discarded. At 0425, they found Tikhonov's Battalion. At 0440, they found Tikhonov. Each soldat was discovered in a state of undress, in advanced rigor mortis. Each was missing lips, nose and eyeballs. No other injuries were observed. Tikhonov and his command staff were decapitated by means unknown; the wounds cauterized. No blood-spatter or pooling was found. Tikhonov's genitals had been removed and were not found. No other injures were observed. Their heads were not found. No evidence of any hostile force could be found. No evidence of survivors was found. I have ordered four squads to remain in the Pass and the advance on Site 9 to proceed. Message repeats: This is KomRot Tatyana Mikhailovna Kuznetsova of Second Expedition, we have located Tikhonov. However, it is...” The message repeated for almost two hours, then cut out as suddenly as it began. Kuznetsova did not respond to hails. Before Third Expedition were loaded into their Chimeras, it was reported that the cloud was dissipating so they were disembarked and then re-embarked onto Arvus Lighters. Further reports indicated that the cloud was in fact not dissipating, so they went back into the Chimeras. Finally, it was determined that the cloud was dissipating and they disembarked the Chimeras a final time and re-embarked into the Arvus Lighters again. The flight to Site 9 was unremarkable, though heavy fog remained in the area. Despite being repeatedly hailed on approach, there was no response from the ground. On landing they found the site powered, but seemingly abandoned. The sites vehicle fleet was discovered undamaged and five squads were ordered down to Diatlov Pass. Third Expedition searched Site 9 inch-by-inch but discovered no trace of any of the staff, their remains or indeed any clues at all as to their fate. Personal effects were not removed. No evidence was found to suggest the presence of hostile forces. Squads scouting the Pass found the corpses of Tikhonov and his Battalion but nobody alive; no evidence of hostilities and no further bodies. No trace was found of Second Expedition until the third day of searching when, in a supply store, the headless body of KomRot Kuznetsova was found slumped against the backwall. aaaand the Basilisk build is done     So I cut the nubs off and I wouldn't exactly say it 'fits' now, but it covers most of the glaring hole. I'll have to investigate further on the second member of Battery-30, next month. Nothing like posting a photo to show up all the mold-lines you missed, is there?

I was back and forth as to what to do with the Heavy Stubber and as you can see, I was swayed by the points cut into slapping it on the Basilisk. D6 S4 shots at BS4+ for 2pts is not to be sniffed at.
CA 2018 in general has been pretty good to me, actually. I haven't worked out exact savings for my R&H yet but my 2K Daemon list (60 Daemonettes, eighteen Seekers, six Heralds, six Chariots, six Fiends) dropped by 283pts. Now that Herself is painted and KoS got a massive points drop too, I can run Her as a regular KoS day-to-day without gimping myself too much.
Which is nice.

Ayy the pricecuts that we got alongside IG, are simply put amazing.
Edit: Heavy stubbers are 3 shots s4.
Flamers also got a cut, i mean the 20 man firebrigade squads now actually might be fun to play. 4d6 s4 auto hits before a charge, sign me up!
An autocannon is now 10! pts for us, a Missile launcher 15. the base chimera went down to 78 pts (15pts) Valkyries went down, Sentinels went down.......
The only bad parts i am miffed about is that the malefic is still 80 pts, even though it is a glorified primaris psyker and that even our cultists went up, even though we certainly got the worst cultists of all cultists.
Special weapons now are a lot more enticing though, 3ppm nade launchers, f.e. are now cheaper then a militia men by far. Spawn for 25 ppm is also insane.

Oopsie on the Heavy Stubber. It's still a great price for a weapon the army sorely needs at Heavy 3.
The Violet Heart is finished except for a layer of gloss varnish on her left arm glove, boob-covering and right leg stocking in my continued attempt to make it all look like latex/rubber rather than leather. I just don't have the skills or patience for tattoos or gubbins, nor do I have much will to spend more time on painting Daemons, honestly. I'm over the whole Fifty Shades of Purple thing for now.
EDIT - 460pts off my 3.5K 'full' Daemon list. That's nuts.

Well what bodes badly i feel is that nearly all armies went down in price, so problem child armies like GK or Necrons wont really be now better/ good. Granted they might have now an easier job to field a battalion to get to that sweet sweet CP. The stubber at 2 pts is absolutely nuts, it's about half as good compared to a heavy bolter, but 4times as cheap. I mean if you wanted to start a WW1 army now, with renegades you could certainly reenact trenchwarfare with stubbers all over the place. For 90 pts you can get 18 HWT's with stubbers, think about that for a moment. For 84 pts you can get 20 milita men with 2 stubbers. for 26 pts you can get a disciple squad with a heavy stubber. You now can technically field the following for 335 pts Spearhead: commander 25 2x 4 command disciples with hwt stubber 52 2x20 Militia with 2 stubbers each for 168 pts 3x 6 hwt's with stubbers for 90 pts. That are 26 heavy stubbers, all of them in teams so you still additionally can fire the flashlight/ autogun, heck you even could field an additional leman russ to make that into a 500 ppm army.
